Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

He'll be 33 in a few weeks and is in a little bit of poor form, as his team is. I find all the bitter haters are cueing up now, half jealous and the other half wounded still over the damage he's done to their team over the years. His decline is inevitable but will go down as one of the best, if not the greatest of all time. He's arrogant yeah but his ability and confidence within himself is unique. Him and Messi are true great, the difference is Messi is seen as the good guy. Strange considering he's been convicted of tax fraud, also bleeding his club with his latest contract. Basically seen the vulnerability of the club with Neymar leaving and took full advantage, fair play but people call that loyalty?

Uhh are you not aware of Ronaldo's tax issues? He threatened to leave the team over the summer because of it. He also wants to get as much money as Messi which him and Real aren't seeing eye to eye over. Literally everything you're criticizing Messi for Ronaldo has also done.

Ronaldo is also bleeding his team dry as Messi is actually living up to his contract whereas Real would want to sell Ronaldo before his value declines.

The Messi brigade is some desperate to spin everything that where allegations of tax evasion is now the same thing as being CONVICTED. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I never said that Ronaldo is the good guy, I'm saying that Messi
isn't. You are basically proving my point regarding Messi and living up to his contract as you put it. What absolute nonsense, he ran down that contract to the last few months and took full advantage of a turbulent period for the club. Ronaldo bled his team dry? What he's contributed to that club is unbelievable, he picked up his 5th Balon dor only a few weeks ago. The Messi brigade are out alright.

He only has 4 goals in league play, he'll need to play some of the best football of his career to finish with 34 goals in La Liga.

Kane for sure, Hazard no way.

Hazard is weird because some games he appears to be on par with Messi and others he just doesn't look bothered, but when he's on it the amount of talent is quite obvious.

As if Messi doesn't bleed FCB dry

Those two great players of current generation deserves to get what they are getting because their contributions have been unbelievable. Their individual achievements are unprecedented, and help their teams to glories.

At this point in time not only is Messi the better player but I think Ronaldo has even fallen behind Neymar.

Problem is he's 33, he has 2 and half more years of contract on unreal money, he has developed a massive ego that makes him a nightmare for coaches and he'd never accept a second fiddle role. Reality is, he has no resell value. No top team in Europe would take a risk on him, unless he accepts a massive pay-cut and Real let him go for a very nominal fee. Ibra came to us at 34, after a phenomenal season in France, for free and for half the money Ronaldo is on.

Realistically, his next destination after Real is either a China/Qatar style league, or a return Sporting (for nowhere near the same money), or retirement.
Welcome to the Rooney years

 I see that you're again in the middle of a little misunderstanding. Mate, reason and logic have left this thread long ago.

Music makes it 10 times better.
I actually tagged you in my reply initially, & edited it out

It’s very weird. And to think that I’m actually in “camp Messi” it’s weird that I’m finding myself being called a CR fanboi more and more

But yea. No point engaging in these threads.

He will still score 33 or 34 goals a season easily. If Rashford reached these figures we'd be saying wonders. It's weird actually because he is clearly going past his prime but even then his stats will still always get to double figures. When he is 36 or 37 bet on him getting at least 20 goals.
I'm not sure he'd score 30 plus goals for us.
It certainly isn't a given.
The other thing is, whoever signs him needs to match his obscene wages.
Him coming back would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Madrid have used him up and now returning a product half as good.
Want to remember him for what he did here.

I was reading George Best's autobiography the other day and it was said that in 1983 he was offered the opportunity to return to United, the manager actually thought he could improve things. I think even past prime Ronaldo would give the dressing room a lift, for any club who signs him, I really don't think he will end his career in Madrid as younger and faster footballers will begin to get their attention, so it will be quite interesting to see what happens between 2019 and 2021, there could be one last move for him.

An out of sorts Ronaldo would bring unprecedented pressure on the club.

Honestly, pissed myself when I saw it last night. Vote for who, where? Ballon d'Or?

Well, better to just look it from the funny side, since serious conversation is obviously out of the question.

Voted for him by watching highlights

I mean, that video on the previous couple pages, which is incidentally the only highlights I’ve watched of CR, showed him having a bit of a mare.

But yeah, both sides of this debate are so touchy (& I actually prefer Messi) that it’s impossible to say much positive or negative without getting jumped on.

The problem for Ronaldo is that he has zero humility and is one of the most arrogant twats the sport has ever seen. Going on instagram and saying crap like "I am the best player in the world, check the results from last monday" and even bigger bollocks with "I am the most complete player in history" is an absolute joke.

He's obviously had a fantastic career but there is confidence, and then there is being delusional. It's the biggest reason why Ronaldo is so hard to root for, and why so many people take pleasure in him going through a rough patch.

Of course people who fawn over him will say "his arrogance is what makes him such a great footballer!" but if he even had 1% humility he'd be more tolerable.

Nothing funnier than seeing the self proclaimed "greatest player in the world" not even look like a top 40 player right now.

Pele doesnt look like a top 40 player right now but he was pretty good !!!

Time catches up to all men but even at his age I can't see many teams who wouldn't want him if they can afford him what is it with you guys the hatred is just vile your talking about Manchester United's greatest ever player who gave us a few seasons of absolute magical memories .
Delusional ?? " I am the best player in the world " that isn't delusional it is fact , people taking pleasure in him going through a tough patch are sad individuals , for gods sake the man was the greatest talent I have ever seen .
I remember people slagging off cantona but when he had finished football was all the poorer same will go for Ronny.

I can imagine you sado's celebrating "hooray Ronny has gone " let's all watch the likes of Fellaini and Andy Carroll instead cos they're not big heads ( no they are not they are just crap )

Surely the very few that wouldn't want him are the same very few that could afford him

It's kinda like a walking on a minefield when you talk about them. It doesn't matter which way you choose to go, there are high chances it will blow up.

Also, more prefer Messi. Wanted to give some objectivity before because, after all, we're talking about one fantastic player, but you can forget about that. Either he is utter dross, or he is the best ever. Actually, if this is his downfall, it will be dreadful to read this thread for the next year or two.
Meh, no need to get upset about it in the end.

Yeah agree with everything you said. Steer well clear of this thread if this is signs of a permanent decline.

On a free or with a fair fee, sure.

But Madrid won't sell him for peanuts, you don't really want to pay 100M+ for a guy to lift a dressing room. We need to see how his situation with Real unfolds, either they stick a high price range if he wants to leave and we have a drama, or they let him leave with a reasonable fee or he keeps playing there until 2021

Only City and PSG can afford his wages and it's impossible to see him playing for Pep or alongside Neymar. Most likely is he stays there and retires once the contract ends or goes to USA.

Don't know why his transfer speculation thread has been locked.
IMO, Made should give him a free if he really wants to go.
33, has bagged +400 goals and is on obscene wages.
If the only reason is because of contract renewal promise then feck him.

How much would he go for? 40m?
This season has fecked any plans to recoup money by selling him to an oil club / Utd to raise money for a replacement.
No no, he'll rediscover his form at 34 years of age..

He has been chosen Mahou's Best player of December

But the important part, I love his photo, it's almost like he's half happy and half annoyed by the trophy

Cristiano Ronaldo in La Liga this season:

- 14 games 93 shots taken (most in top 5 leagues)
- 4 goals
- An embarassing conversion rate of 4.3%, the worst in Europe's top 5 leagues.

Here's all of his 93 shots from this season

Part 1 and Part 2

I don't know what's up with him anymore, he's constantly missing easy chances.

Jinxed. Derserved it today, looks much better with Bale.

I think it's Benzema, his 1-2 play as soon as he was in the game is probably his best action this game, and now this goal comes "shadowing" Benzema run at the defender leaving him alone.

They play by memory at this point, when one is in bad form, both of them look worse.

Finally, @SirAF

Needs a lot more to turn this season’s form around though.

2087 minutes played this season, 18 goals. Last season after 2087 minutes he had... 18 goals.

Look at the way those goals were distributed if you can, i'm curious. Last season he was going through a bad patch in the winter, but he was playing himself back into fitness, and he still showed up at times when we needed him, then he was back to himself from January

Honestly, it might just be that between Bale, Morata, Ramos, Benzema, James and Isco we were able to overcome his lack of goals, whereas this season nobody else has stepped up, but he just looks worse this season. I mean, he looks no better than he did last season, but last season he was coming back from a long injury layoff and missed all summer training camp

We'll see if he picks it up again from here on out
