CL/EL Semi Finals Draw | Pool to face Bayern/Real in final

If you look behind Heynckes name-calling United, you can see his message is not wrong at all that the best teams need time to grow together. Cristiano went to Madrid in 2009 but won his first League in 2012 and his first CL for Madrid in 2014. Some players like Sanchez are written off after 10 games, now imagine Cristiano failing to push Real into CL finals for 4 seasons straight.

PSG failed, but they failed against a formidable opponent. They have Neymar, Mbappe and Veratti still hitting their prime in the future so there is no reason why they could not become a multiple CL winning team (need to replace Cavani though). Another reason why what he says is true is that you can't buy the best players even if you have all the money. Man City have been absolutely ruthless in their spending, but still have only 1 player who should be named in a list of Top10 best players in the world. Not because they bought flops (which they didn't, their transfers have actually a high success rate), but because you can't pick and choose the best players from the best clubs. Even Real Madrid can't do it anymore if you hear the papers in Madrid whining about Kane being too expensive.

Also with Heynckes being a former Real coach, I reckon he is biased for sure:wenger:

All you’ve done is beat City. It’s not even a controversial statement. Sorry for not being fond of Liverpool either. Never did I say you didnt deserve to be in the semis anyway.

Well it isn’t “all” we’ve done. We beat Hoffenheim, won our group, beat Porto and then beat City. It wasn’t a matter of 2 games that got us here it was 12. We’ll do you think we deserve to be in the semi’s?

Yes I do think you deserve to be in the semis but beating Porto, Maribor and Spartak doesn’t show me anything.

Kin ' ell lad.

Maybe rephrase it. The only top team youve beat was the elect English champions who have took the piss all season.

Who was in your group by the way as I cant remember ?

A City side you have figured out, fair enough. I’m not taking that away from you. This has nothing to do with United. I never claimed we had done anything in Europe either. We had Benfica, CSKA and Basel in our group.

Personally think Roma have a better chance to beat Pool than Bayern beating Real.

Should be some excellent games though.

I would like to right now say congrats to Liverpool on winning a sixth European Cup. Might aswell get it in it early......:(

It just feels inevitable.

Pinning my hopes on Klopp being quite a bottler when it comes to finals.

The thing is, unlike Man City, Roma will actually respect Liverpool. Guardiola went to Anfield and played right into their hands, because he ultimately believes his style of football will always prevail. Whereas Liverpool are a potent attacking team, specifically on the counter attack. Man City played right into that style, got outrun, bullied physically and paid the price for Pep’s stubbornness. Roma is not that naive. They will sit back and wait for their chances, Liverpool has no one in their MID who can break a defence down, they really lack options to play through the middle and I’m not convinced they can handle Roma on the counter over the course of 90 minutes at Anfield.

Another thing to consider is the quality of opposition Roma has faced in the Champions League this year has been much higher than what Liverpool has come up against. Chelsea, Atheltico Madrid, Shakthar, Barcelona vs Man City and maybe Sevilla?(Who put 5 past Pool)

Where I think Roma will give Liverpool a lot of issues though is with their physicality. Roma are a very strong team through the middle of the park, with Dzeko, Schick, Strootman, Nainggolan, De Rossi, Fazio, & Manolas. Liverpool really outmuscled and bullied Man City in the defensive and midfield areas, can’t see that happening with Roma. Dzeko should also have an absolute field day with that CB pairing if he gets the right service.

It’s a fascinating matchup, I see it as 50/50 right now. Injuries and whatnot can obviously change that, but it should be a really intriguing tie.

And knocked us out for emphasis....

Anyone to win it but Real, sick of Spanish teams winning it!

Does anyone fancy Bayern? Just looking now and am shocked to see that German teams have had hardly any success in the past 2 decades.

Surely Lewandowski will destroy Real's defence (like he did a few years back). It's probably overdue for a German team to win. They've quietly gone about their business and could really come to life in the second, away, leg.

Ok . Sound . We'll call it a draw .

No I'm bloody not!

And also quit bashing the league cup, minor as it may be, it's still last tin cup you feckers won.
Yes, a 'tin cup', you said it yourself. It's a nothing trophy, none of us are harking back to the 'glory days' of 2012 believe me
But why bring league cup into this? This is a CL semi final which Liverpool are widely expected to progress (I personally think you guys have a great chance of winning the whole thing). I don't understand why you're so passionate about comparing it to a league cup, as if Roma is the end of the road.

Roma is the best possible draw, but if you guys do go out of the Semis, then obviously you haven't a trophy, since a semi final isn't a trophy. But CL semi final is more prestigious than a league cup, that is certainly true.

But be optimistic man, what the hell.

You should read the whole conversation before commenting lad.
It was about the fallacy of 'Klopp/ Poch' "have to win something soon", because no-one I know would swap a League Cup win, for a Champions League semi-final. I said nothing about us not progressing further, or going on to win it.

Oh Haram, really hurts doesn't it. Have a quiet sit down in a darkened room, and contemplate your existence.
Hatred leads nowhere but inwards, it's a vicious circle. All the best, get well soon.

Would be quite something if Roma beat them after they´re feeling invincible. The second leg being in Rome is a great advantage, hoping for a score draw at Anfield with Roma sitting deep and exposing Pool on the counter.

Roma have very little pace to trouble Liverpool.

Every United fan should hate Liverpool. Nice try bud.

You are right. Never denied that Liverpool can beat Roma, but I spoke from Roma's perspective since too many were writing them off already.

I know you didn't rule out that Liverpool have chance. I am just extending what you said. All the guys who think Liverpool is through to final against Madrid have no idea what all these teams are capable of, Roma is no easy tie and Madrid have to raise their game if they want to go past Bayern. In fact I feel Bayern and Roma have as much chance as Liverpool and Madrid.

I don't know why people keep going on Klopp's record in finals. To put it in context expect for Liverpool vs Sevilla, when has ever Klopp reached final as favourite? Even Sevilla was very good team with 3 Europa league titles in last 4 seasons(if my memory serves me right).

It’s very worrying that if Pool make it to the final (95% chance) - they will tear apart Real/Bayern. By they, I mean Salah.

Every title in the thread is turning out to be true, delete the thread or better change to Roma to face Bayern/Real. @Niall , we need to save the season again.

Bayern are going to win the CL and Arsenal the EL, so that we can have the annual Bayern-Arsenal match in the super-cup. The UEFA will make sure of it.

Here is an interesting one.

What if Salzburg win the Europa League? Do they go straight into the group stages of the CL or do they have to play qualifying via the Champions of Austria route? :wenger:

With their history not such an insignificant question.

I don't understand why is everyone so sure that Liverpool will beat Roma easily. Liverpool always struggle against teams that main concern is to defend.

My guess: we will see a Liverpool with over 60% possesion, at least at Anfield, and a Roma that will hoof balls to Dzeko or will try to hit on counter. It won't be so easy for Liverpool as everyone suggests.

About the other game, I just hope that this year Real won't be playing again with 12 players.

Anybody who knows football isvsaying its going to be tough. I see what you mean about the second leg but it being an advantage depends on the score of the first leg. You know exactly what you have to do . City did know they had to score at least three and not concede for example.

I think at this stage English teams get the better of Italian teams in UCL.

Ive got £500 at 8-1 for Liverpool to win champions league. I did it before the Quarter final draw.
It's the first bet I don't want to win. I don't think 4K will soften the blow. It got me thinking though, how much money would actually soften the blow?

So this is how it'll go:
- Roma to "make it hard" for Liverpool but eventually Liverpool squeezes through
- James to score the matchwinner against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu
- Bayern beats Liverpool in the final

I can already see it unfold. Pool vs. Bayern Final with Pool going into half time with a 3:0 lead only for Bayern to make a comeback, equalise in the 95th, take it to pens and win it there.

:nono: That'd knock years off the life expectancy of many people here.

Much better Roma beat them 5-0 on agg.

True. I'd probably refrain from watching that kind of final live but I'd be sure to record it to watch it later time after time after time.:D
