FA W FA Cup Semi-final

Manchester United 2:1 Tottenham Hotspur

Post-match discussion

Our overall record against the big teams this season looks quite good, doesn't it?

It's the stupid points dropped against relegation fodder that has cost us in the league.

What was the BBC’s plan if it went to pens?

The programmers were probably told by the experts/pundits that Spurs would win easily in 90 minutes and that there is no chance the game could go longer than 90 minutes.

Nice to hear that Ed sent Jose a text this morning. They seem to have a very good relationship and both want to get United back to the top.

Thought we were dead in the water after 25 mins, and looked a little slow on and off the ball. Fair dos, they showed some spirit to get back in the game.
Not pretty football to watch though, but we're in another cup final.

It was 1-1 after 25 minutes.

Quintessential "Mourinho in a big game' performance. Get the result, on to the next one. Well done lads. Stuck at it till the end. Spurs may have bossed the possession and played the prettier football, but we're in another final! They had home advantage and yet we were able to put one over them. Not to be scoffed at. Our poor football isn't news. It's just what it is for now. We live in hope of better. Lesson from that game...the brain trust trying to improve the atmosphere at Old Trafford could do worse than study today's game. Absolutely rocking!

What do we think of Tottenham? Shit!

Massive win. Showed great spirit, having gone a goal down.

Really buzzing, not only for the players, but for Mourinho too. The media and fans (including myself) have given him a hard time at times this season. However, he has shown this season, and even last, that he can grind out results and win big games.

We've a lot of things to work on for next season, though, especially our build up play and ability to keep the ball, but for now, I'm very glad we're through to the final.

GGMU!!

Just got back from Wembley. That was fantastic. Singing section was bouncing.

Awesome performance, to a man. Smalling and Jones were brilliant, I had serious reservations but they didn't put a foot wrong. Kane had 'uck all.

Herrera was excellent, Pogba was great, Sanchez brilliant. In fact, pretty much everyone turned in a great shift today. HUGE win.

We'll win it now, this was the toughest team left in the competition!

Really good solid professional performance by United. Jose showed his managerial quality there, tactics and game management were spot on. Sanchez, Herrera, Pogba, Lukaku and the centre backs were immense. Only weakness for me was the full backs, but we knew that already. Referee Taylor was shocking, allowed Spurs to get away with niggling fouls all match. Amazingly, we had four yellow cards issued to us, while Spurs only had three! Again, this is an example of why no British referees were selected for the World Cup.

Thrilled. Thought we were out of it until we scored and then it seemed Spurs heads dropped and we turned it up a level.

Defended fantastically as well besides the goal. Jones being fired up next to Smalling at the end is always good to see. Some very good performances from Lukaku/Herrera/Jones/Smalling/Pogba and Sanchez. Sanchez in particular was awesome.

The ref sucked.

Try giving Mike a call

Didn't have much confidence in United beforehand but after a rocky start, great performance. First goal was a beauty, Herrera deserved his goal he was excellent today, not the only one.

Ropey first 20, where we could have been 2 or 3 down, but after that a bit of a quality showing of counter attacking football.
Lukaku must have felt spoilt having wide open spaces to gallop into, while Pogba and Sanchez turned it on at the right time.
Herrera after a slow first half of season is coming into his own a bit now, as we finally realise that solid midfield 3 is what we need, for certain in these games

Into the cup final tickets ballot we go, and hopefully Southampton can spring a surprise tomorrow.

Love come from behind wins! Spurs sh*te as usual when they needed to perform. Will never rate them.
Jones, Smalling, Sanchez, Herrera (MOTM) Matic, all excellent.
Well done lads.

Just back on the train fecking buzzing. First 20 i feared the worst but we deserved to win. Throat is fecked now. Lost my voice.

Spurs obviously had the better start and more of the ball but they didn't create many clear cut chances. The last twenty minutes of the first half were split fairly evenly. United controlled the second half. Job well done IMO.

The average rating today was 6.9?

Honestly, there's really no pleasing some of you folks.

Probably upset we went through so you can't slate the players and the manager

The only thing I see remaining to add to the squat is the motivation for the games vs not big teams - in the big games we are up to our best and we beat them all for good

Poch neutralized his own team when he went to a back 3 with Moura coming on for Davies I believe it was.

Young was too narrow most of the match which allowed Eriksen to drift off Pogba once Trippier came forward, then played the ball behind. It was a weakness that Spurs went to throughout the match. But when Moura came on, everything was in front of Young who tucked inside and Rashford simply was another left back. Eriksen then dropped deep to support the attack and pick up the ball.

Brilliant comeback, especially after conceding again against a very good side. We have what it takes to get the goals when we need them the most, signs are there for next season. Furthermore happy to see Herrera back to his best, was worried after the season so far. Credit also to Mourinho who instilled the never give in mentality.

Beat Chelsea and the season will be a good one. Surprisingly only a few people have posted so far, i wonder why. :smirk:

They had some good ones though. I just watched the highlights back, and Kane was even closer to that crossfield ball late in the first half than I realised, inches.

Hitting the post was a great chance too.

Herrera fantastic.. Sanchez worked like a dog .. Our CB's played a really solid game . Only negative is the treatment of Martial who was made for this second half.

But we are going to wembley .

My brother has been to Wembley to watch Utd 5 times and we've won every time.

I'll have to make sure he goes to the final.

True but he had to do something, Davies was absolute pigswill. Has he ever blocked a shot in his life?

Got megged by both Herrera and Lukaku too, close your fecking legs you mug!

Shite crosser too.

Was Rose injured again? They really need him back fit and starting again. All the rest of their full backs are bang average at best.

Wembley was fun today except for those bloody flags.

Rubbish until Spurs scored. After that it was a proper game

- The only thing Dembele has as a footballer is the ability to deliberately go around never getting muscled off the ball, then Pogba just pushes him off it like it's no problem, setting up a goal, basically destroying Dembele forever.

- Young is a constant worry at left back. I like him a lot but he still looks like someone pretending to be a left back. He let's himself get bullied in games...well let's himself is harsh, but it happens.

- Pogba had a good game I thought. Criminally at fault for the goal, but, in the past, whenever there is pressure on him or he makes a mistake, he goes to pieces. Today he grew into the game instead, set up a goal, and was the player allowing us to relieve pressure and counter properly in the second half.

- still far too much booting the ball towards Lukaku in the hope he can beat the entire opposition on his own. Young does this every time he is even slightly pressured. Stop it.

Was also surprised to see. Can't find much fault in that performance as a team. Valencia and Young probably lower the ratings, but still
