Post-match discussion

Thanks for that opinion however as a forensic accountant I am used to only dealing in facts. Tell me, does the European super cup not pass your cup final authenticity test as well?
The Super Cup is a trophy worth winning but the community/charity shield? C'mon it's just the season curtain raiser and has absolutely no meaning.

It's games like this where I can see what José is building with United:

  • Offensively ruthless
  • Defensively rock solid
  • Key word. Efficient
We've done this now against Liverpool, 2nd half vs City, now against Spurs. Each of them performances where (barring Aguero's chance with De Gea's wonder-save), we have completely nullified their main goal scorer and picked them off with ruthless efficiency. Particularly in this game we comfortably kept the, at arms length and were never really troubled, similar to the Pool match.

We are just too damn inconsistent with it (can't help but think Martial would have tucked away Rashford's fluff in injury time) and individual defensive lapses (Lukaku at every corner.....ever).

If he can get consistent performances like this and then add the ruthless finishing against lesser teams, I can see us being a force again.

.....and this is from one who has previously voted to get rid of Mournho too.

Good post

Tbf to spurs they were without Harry Kane today, he'd have made a difference if he'd been on the pitch

Am not sure why everybody is saying they were without Harry Kane. Didn't he score the first goal?? HEHEHE

Martial would have finished the Rashford chance
So would lukaku
So would Sanchez
So would Pogba
So would lingard
So would Herrera
So would Matic
So would Mata
Etc etc Rashford needs to improve in front of goal but he will be the main man in the future

Buzzing - really needed that. They started well and looked like they were going to take control but, credit to the team for putting in a great performance after the first 15 or so minutes. Team was really good but, really would like to have got more out of Valencia and Young, maybe season is taking toll on both.

Can't decide between Herrera and Sanchez for MOTM - and to think I was thinking why is Sanchez starting. Put me in my place.

Gareth Southgate can do one. England's savior, had he been on the field would have been shutdown by Jones and Smalling. Oh wait he was on the field and did feck all - something Smalling has done on more than one occasion now.

Now to sew up 2nd place with a good win against the Gooners !

Why do we always need 20-25min to get started in a game. Still don’t like the way we sit back instead of trying to get the 3rd. That second goal really took the wind out of Tottenham’s sails. I expected them to really come back fighting but they just seemed to wither away.

I don't understand this sentiment. We didn't just shut up shop an nd defend. We ceded possession and focused on counter attack. It worked fantastically well. We continued to create good chances after the second goal. In fact we looked more likely to score than Spurs

Brilliant performance, showed some real fight today and came from behind again. For the first time since Ferguson retired we look like we can dig games out again from losing positions.

Under Van Gaal and Moyes especially we just went through the motions and often accepted defeat without much of a fight.

Well it needs addressing in the summer window, get a top class fitness coach in or something.

We perform with that energy and there’s very few teams that could match us.

I think it's a by-product of Mourinho's tactics - he likes his players to be in the right positions at any time (and as a result, saving energy), rather than chasing whichever gaps that may appear.

When Jose's MUFC play in big games, they always seem to raise their game/performance.
Unfortunately, when we play a lower level team, like Huddersfield or WBA, we struggle to raise our performance level to that of even a Championship side.

Some people say that we still don't know who our best Xi is. Well, today, we saw Jose play his best XI. Martial fanboys won't like that, but it is what it is.

Great to see Sanchez really enjoying himself as well. Can't wait to see what he produces next season.

His workrate since he joined us has been immense, so it was only a matter of time that he would begin to "tick" and play well for us.
When we signed him, I said that he is instantly our best attacker and I still believe this.

He doesn't half make me nervous when he sprints like he does - terrified he's going to do his hamstring! He's relentless.

A summer off is going to be brilliant for him.

Fantastic performance with just about everything going against us.
The ref was a disgrace in his bias. VAR also disregarded a United pen. Plus 7 minutes at the end?!
Some of Spurs tackles should be looked at retrospectively as well if the playing field is level.

This seems to have been totally glossed over by the biased coverage of the game, had the foul been on Kane we’d not hear the end of it till next season! And Murphy’s insufferable punditry was a joke , who couldn’t have been more obvious with his bitterness towards Utd throughout the game.

Credit where its due to Mou. Play fecking midfield three and let the boys have a bit of freedom. Looking forward to the final now.

Think you're all a bit agenda driven here, this is exactly the kinda stuff that Lingard and Pogba do.

I'm sure you know that. You're letting the fact that you don't like Alli cloud your perception if you disagree.
No I don't like Alli cause he's a dirty twat so no clouding my perception at all.

so we pretty easily handled them. people still going to moan about how much better they are than us?

Poch is better than Jose.
Spurs are better than MUFC.
Yet, they have lost twice to us this season and are below us in the league.

Based on the above, some "fans" have come up with the bright idea that we should hire Poch and get rid of Jose. :wenger:

Thought both centre backs were excellent. Shackled Kane really well and forced Son wide from decent positions on a number of occasions.

Southgate must have been miserable today seeing how Kane disappeared in such a big game and Rashford fumbled when he had a clear chance to cause havoc.

Maybe Jones and Smalling cheered him up a bit though.

Great comeback again, very proud of the players and Mourinho today.
Pogba,Sanchez and Herrera were great.
Ref had an absolute shocker of a match, thankfully it didnt cost us.

I really enjoyed the match, even when we were a goal down because it was good football. Jose got the team selection spot
on and Sanchez showed what he can do. For me the MOTM was Matic, he really has put a shift in and I would like to see him as captain next years.
