Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

Surely now that Columbia have finished top it means that England and Belgium will both want to finish top also...?

Seems slightly smug/arrogant to presume that either England or Belgium would definitely get past them. They're a really good team.
I don't think it changes much. Colombia + Sweden/Switzerland is still easier than Japan + Brazil/Mexico. Colombia are a good team but Belgium or England will get past them I think.

Not sure there's a huge difference between Japan and Colombia (would marginally prefer to face Japan).

I feel there is, quite a big difference. Especially with England's style of play.

Columbia are technically far better than England (and Japan), in my opinion anyway. And are also way better at pressing.

It's more about who the opponent will be in the possible 1/4 final. Win the group and you'll play Brazil in the quarters. Finish 2nd and you'll get Sweden or the Swiss.

I know, that's kind of my point though - to presume that Columbia will definitely be breezed past is, I think, very arrogant for a team of England's (or Belgium's) position.

No bias here btw, I'm English.

I don't think Colombia are that great technically. They have some gifted players though and a lot of athletes that are better suited to these conditions than us. They would be a massive test for this England side.

It’s ironic that England have been awful in tournaments in recent years and now they go into the last group game not particularly wanting to win the game.

They should go for the win and keep momentum rolling, looking at past results they have no right to be plotting for two games ahead

Hoping England win the group.

Cause, you know, it'd be nice to win the group. Japan look less difficult than Colombia. If we reached a quarter final against Brazil that would be great fun.

seem to recall last season or maybe season before, many on here were calling for us to sign Dendoncker. He seems to have gone the way of the Gaitan.

Brazil could lose to Mexico y'know, just saying, they don't look invincible. Then that route looks easier.

Calling this now. England v Croatia World Cup final

Or Belgium v Croatia, depending on how this game goes

Jones... is it that wrong to dislike your own player? I know it is but i can't help myself

Id say southgates made the right call on the team..whatever the result it keeps some of his key players fresh for the next game

I think Marouane will struggle in that two man midfield...

True. This world cup is so unpredictable but you're right. Brazil can lose to Mexico giving England a golden opportunity or England can face Brazil themselves and beat them. Nothing will surprise me.

if you are changing the whole team why not goalkeepers as well? Give someone a run out in the WC if you dont care about the result.

May be late to this discussion, but Dendoncker in defence? Usually a midfielder right? I remember him practically running through United in a game.

Calamity Thomas is starting well.
