Day 17: France-Argentina, Uruguay-Portugal.

How can he be the best of all time? Ahead of Maradona, Pele and the likes. I'm sorry but the more you hear facts like these the more you start to wonder.

My stat was wrong it was knock out games, but his goals scored in World cup is 6, 3 vs Nigeria, Iran, Bosnia and Serbia

Poor teams, average record

Argentina's crosses - be it from corners, free kicks or in play - have been the worst I've seen. And I watch Antonio Valencia every week, and the occasional Phil Jones corner.

A bit condescending that.

I don't mean to be condescending, but Ligue 1 is a one-team league. He can do whatever he wants, I just think a player like him should play against the best in the world on a weekly basis instead of playing for a team that'll win the league with 20+ points irregardless of him being there.

Sampaoli should just sub off Messi now as a last stunt after all the speculations.

Man, Lawro or Murphy, whoever it is (both sound exactly the same to me) is full of pure tripe. Lack of quality around Messi is the reason? Other Argentina players have got them the win and got them through the game. Be honest and admit that Messi didn't do enough instead of trying to hype him up.

Yep, nausea inducing drivel.

This is the right result. Messi is an incredible footballer and yada yada yada but France are the better team and the team I want to see in the semis. I think they'll make the finals.

Why Sampaoli never moves Messi to the right, get Dylaba+ Higuain in the middle?
I don't get it.Meza, Pavon, Di Maria have done feck all for the whole tournament

This is one of the worst Argentina teams I've seen. Besides in attack, they are completely average. No way Messi could have lead them to the title.

Took 4 games but France have finally arrived to the World Cup.

Difficult to see past France as WC winners.

They really are a wonderful footballing side.

I think this game is a bit of a red herring. Argentina are a shambles and the perfect side for an explosive team like France to face. It's no coincidence they looked so poor in the group stages then like world beaters when they come up against this lot.

Brazil, Belgium and Spain would all take them, IMO. Maybe even Croatia.

They have better players, significantly better players. This weird agenda that Argentina are as shit as Portugal has become very tiring.

And if Ronaldo has as a bad match as Messi and they get eliminated, I think it is fair to keep Pele as the GOAT. Comparable to Messi/Ronaldo for his club, but way better in international football.

Better players mean nothing if they can't play as a team, simple as. Also their keeper is shite, defense is shite (Otamendi is protected by Pep's tactics), Masch is old, Di Maria is like Rooney nowadays, Aguero is terrible for Argentina. They have 'names' but if you look closer you'll see they are awful.

Again, if the players are so good then why did they only win 1 qualifier game without Messi?

Yep my point on it. Would be a shame if we don't see him play in La Liga or Premier league. I imagine he'll want to do it when he hits 24-25 but PSG obviously don't give up their star attractions easily.

Too late now. Dybala gets to carry the torch for the new generation.
