As a Scotsman I’m genuinely worried that this England team have a decent chance of winning the whole thing. A lot of upsets so far and some big teams out... hold me...

England are going to get to the World Cup final and it's glorious. Sunday session on the 15th is already confirmed in the diary.

You'd rather be on the right hand side of the brackets wouldnt you? France, Brazil, Belgium and Uruguay are in the opposite bracket to England. Best chance in ages of getting to a semi final.

After that result, my nerves for the Colombia game have ramped up already.

It's a great chance for anyone in this side of the draw. Just hope it's us who reaps the rewards.

You'd definitely say England are the most impressive on paper (probably for having a striker like Kane alone). Think Croatia have been the most impressive team out of all those though.

Surely this team can terrorise Colombias back line? This has to be the perfect opportunity to get to the final. Really hope Sterling gets back into his city form now cause we desperately need it, everyones been properly firing apart from him.
 
I just hope the lads actually see this as a massive opportunity and go for it and don't go the same way as every other England team and freeze up the second things aren't going our way.

I want to believe this team is different, we still believe. We still believe.
 
England wouldn't face one of the so called big teams now until the final. Out of the teams remaining which England can get before the final, Croatia is the best. If you take into account though that Russia are on home turf, Switzerland and Sweden look to be great units and Colombia have a few quality match winners then you shouldn't start the celebrations yet however this is one of the easier paths to the final an England team has had.
 
I think facing Croatia and co would be worst for England because it may force them to play a bit more attacking and expose their weak backline. I would've favoured them more if they were facing a big side such as Spain than Croatia/Colombia.

If England do go out it wont be awkward at all just business as usual. The nation is used to it. Truth is every team on that side of the draw now believes they have a shot at the final and they're all correct to think and say so. It's not arrogance or delusional on anyone's part its wide open.
 
England fans are no more hopeful than any other teams fan in that side of the draw now. So will every team be getting a thread full of weirdos laughing at them? Nah probably not, just us.

Put it this way, England's potential path to the final will be similar to Liverpool's CL run, pretty much beatable opponents until the final with possible banana skins in Croatia and Colombia if their concentration slips.
 
I think England will make the semis. Most likely Croatia and France/Brazil stand between them and the cup. It's not that unlikely at all.
 
All we need now is for Denmark to best Croatia and then we can go out to Columbia.

Don't you see that this argument works both ways? By supporting England, you are actually supporting and hoping that players of our rivals become world champions. The likes of Jordan Henderson, captain of Liverpool and vice captain of England. Or that thug Delle Alli. Were you confused to support Gerrard and John Terry on the same team for an entire decade? Did you wear their jerseys while you were imaging Terry celebrating and doing high five with Gerrard.

Or you know, you can separate supporting a club from supporting a national team, especially if you don't have any links with that country.

And by the way, this is an Irish forum. Niall can decide during England's celebration (when Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson are kissing each other) to make this forum theme about Irish National team, or Liverpool, or astrophysics and there is feck all, me, you, English NT or Manchester United can do about it.
