England Discussion | Finish 4th

They hate everything English but support an English club. :wenger:

Loving the bitterness in here. Did none of you lot cheer when Lingard scored in the fa cup final?
Or Teddy in the cl final?

I’m going to go full Kevin Keegan soon enough, and you never go full Keegan.
You never go full Keegan..

Ignore the tosspots anyway, they are the reason the football forums face such criticism. They are mainly polluted by people that only watch football in terms of stats and football manager.

Don't support England but this is a good underdog story so far. Think they'll make it to the final at this point. Croatia slightly overrated actually.

Is some of this hate down to these people reading too much English media?

This is the ironic thing. Lots of mentions and moans about the English Media, and Keowns commentary...yet the morons banging on about it and our "arrogance" don't seem to grasp the fact it's actually only them reading and buying into that shite in the first place!

It's ridiculous and hilarious at the same time, and I'm enjoying it all :)

Do you know when we all make fun of Liverpool because they say things like 'next year is our year'. ' Liverpool squad is the best in the league'. We all love for them to lose hilariously due to it. England is kind of like Liverpool is for the rest of the world with your commentators orgasming on live television. Your it's coming home bit. We have had several people already say that England would have beaten Spain and Germany much easier than they have beaten sweden.
With all these things you can imagine why a lot of the world is dreading an England win.

52 years of hurt for the English.

2 weeks of butthurt for the non-English.
Can only speak about my own country (non-English) and it looks like England have been one of the most liked NTs. Actually the level of love-fest from the commentary and experts panel was nigh on unbearable throughout the game. Think you're being dramatic here.

I'm really happy for England ! hope you will win it..I just dont want to see France winning it and i'll be fine.
Same here. Would be happy with anyone else, but my favourite winner would be Belgium.

Fair point. I meant specifically the butthurt non-England fans in this thread.

But my post wouldn't have scanned if I'd put all that in. I wanted to keep it concise.

It's a good thing there's bitter folk like you to counter that then!

And the "It's coming home" stuff is from a song by two comedians. If you take it literally and use it as a stick to beat the English with, well then, maybe the joke might be on you? But hey, I'm sure your country has the best media and if we were to all focus on them, there'd be no joy and celebration or any of that entitled nonsense.

Watching RTE's coverage of England's win today, they were full of praise for the team, players and manager. Quite a lot of belief they could win the whole thing too. Frankly ye're getting as much of a positive response as ye could reasonably expect given ye're a country whose football failures are traditionally enjoyed by quite a lot of people.

That's good to hear.

FWIW, the BBC/ITV are always massively positive about the Irish team as well. So are the vast majority of the public.

People actually like your lot as you seem this humble bunch this year, full of on the rise young players or honest hard-workers in Young etc. Great contrast to the previous hyped, sometimes washed up stars failing to impress. Also the audience notice how English fans aren't acting Billy big Bollocks this time round, just being really humble, happy and proud of their team. Good for you, lads.

I am not countering anything. I just don't want England to win just like I don't want Liverpool to win. Insufferable fans and media personalities. Obviously not all fans and media. It is as simple as that. Imagine watching club football next next season with Liverpool CL winners and City PL winners. It's just like that for me. Every other commentary comment a mention of the world cup win. Imagine Mark Lawrenson saying again and again," he couldn't do that at the world cup for his national team so what is the point doing it now"

Yeah, it's refreshing to be honest. Literally all of my lot have just been pleasantly surprised at how well we've done and just hope to go further. Lots of good fun watching the games and about 90% shock we even made it out of the group stages. It's been far better than previous years as a fan and that's mostly due to just letting the team get on with it.

It's what makes me laugh at these idiots in here even more to be honest. Banging on about the media and commentators and a stupid song as if that's what defines England at this workd cup. It's childish, petty and incredibly bitter. And brilliant fun

Not a big fan of international football, but would like to see the winner come from this side of the draw, preferably Croatia. A country of 4.2 million people winning the World Cup... it'd be a bit bizarre.

All this coming home was mostly sarcasm at first, and all a laugh, but now we’re in the semis we’ve got a chance.

Like you are being you mean? Bitterness is an insufferable trait too, so is judging by past events. I mean, for example, what England fans at the WC this year have been insufferable? You are just jumping on a few people on the media and banging on about "same old England" when in reality, this year has been a lot calmer and we just happen to have gone a lot further than usual.

But yeah, how dare people sing a joke song about Football coming home. How dare they take pride in the fact our usually shite team has actually won a few games. Insufferable twats!

Will be very tough match.

I think Sterling looked good today, even though he didn’t quite manage to nick a goal. If he plays like that next game, along with Harry we will have a great chance.

Dominant performance from England today. Growing into the tournament and with good momentum I'd back them against either Croatia or Russia.

We deserved to win today. Missed chances could have been more comfortable.

Good chance v Russia or Croatia.

We can make the final.

Is it coming home?

Gonna lose the final on penalties.

To be fair Lambo, it might have started as a joke, but it is hardly anymore. The pundits are talking only about it, and after both of last matches, the journo in post-match interview asked Southgate (seriously, no laugh from her or Southgate) 'is football coming home'?

Good god, there are still people who are thinking the 'its coming home' is a sign of arrogance. :wenger:. Its a joke however as England have got further, people are using it more and more. There is lots of social.media memes on it. We find is hilarious.

Just had this text from my Girlfriend’s Dad who is Swedish. “A message from Sweden: Great game, well played! Must say i think its one of the more clean and fair game of the season! Cheers!” I was saying during
the game, it was nice not to have so many fights/ controversial incidents as there was in the Colombia game. I feel bad that the Swedes are out, they are a truly lovely nation of people.

Really arrogant of you to enjoy something, mate.

If Russia win this, would England fans be confident of beating them? They'd have beaten far better opposition to reach the same point.

Yeah, and that still isn't meant to be taken seriously!

The song is about us being shit but still having belief. It's not actually a song about us apparently inventing the game so it's coming home! It a slogan based on us traditionally being shit, not some arrogant statement just because people get drunk and sing it in the vein hope we might actually do something for once

I disagree. People are saying it more and more as England have gone further. The players and managers are taking it game by game. People are getting behind the country as we havent seen much success with our national.team.for years

People just want an excuse to piss on our parade. Yet we are the ones who are arrogant and apparently hate foreigners

The bold one is definitely true, and them are being humble which makes this England team - for once - very likeable.

Us England fans dont give a toss about journos. They may be jumping on the bandwagon now but they wouldn't hesitate to rip this team or any players to shreds if they had a story.

The pundits are just having a laugh as we are getting excited along with the fans.

The journo and pundits are using it as 'we are going to win the world cup'.

Are they saying that though? Are they actually saying we are going to win it?

Or is it a bit of chest thumping and geeing up, just as the song is about?

A lot of you guys are completely missing the point and I get how that can lead to your viewpoint. But you are wrong. Sure there probably are plenty of idiots out there who actually use that song or anything else in the way you think it's intended, but as I said earlier, the vast majority of people who seem to be taking the press and the song seriously are everyone but the bloody English
