Aside from the gun show loophole, the sale of firearms is pretty regulated in the US. This is a different issue from the availability of the blueprints.

They'd want nothing to do with it but not because of any safety concerns. These feckers want to arm teachers and children in schools so safety is far from the top of their priority tree.
3D printing will continue to improve with regards quality and spec. Their issue is more with the idea that people buying their own materials and printing their own products removes them and their members as the middle men along with the premiums they currently charge on their products.
It won't only be the gun crowd, this is going to be widespread as this tech develops further and Johnny Public starts printing his own products at home. Expect way more government regulation, investigation and scaremongering (actual scaremongering, not the Brexit red herring) about things like food, tech equipment and clothing as lobbyists start to see their profits drop and start bullying their pet politicians to remember where their bread is buttered.
You misinterpret my point. They don't want the legal liability of being involved with a limited use product. I have a S&W revolver that was made in 1982. It's considered rather young by some standards.
To take on your and Nick's point, they still aren't going to be concerned. For now, these things are a novelty and the ability and saturation of capable 3D printers is next to nil. American gun nuts like their guns made of steel or aluminum (mostly...we won't talk about Glock).
Reliability is the biggest obstacle for 3D guns as everyone in the US owns them for self defense. You are not going to trust you life to a piece of plastic that could blow up in your hand.
The "gun show loophole" is really a private seller loophole between any two citizens (that only sometimes take place at gun shows). Its impossible to track how common this is but there are many networks in place already that turn legally bought guns and sell them down the chain. I could drive right now and buy a gun off the streets with no background check that probably went through a dozen owners from legally bought before finding its way to the street. This private seller loophole is massive (far more than just gun shows) and its how a lot of black market gun selling occurs.
Also the only really effective 3d printed guns are the ones that incorporate metal parts (and thus won't get past security checks). Good info here:

People won't trust any gun that they can't prove to be reliable over 1000s of rounds. The big manufacturers aren't sweating about this yet (they have larger concerns at the moment).

And a President so insecure he can’t help himself but to do it again and again so he can hear the masses boo when he tells them to and to hear them all laugh at his jokes. Imagine Macron, May or Merkel do something similar. Yeah, I can’t either. It’s absurd.
