BBC: Jose Mourinho investigated by FA over comments after Man Utd win over Newcastle | "not proven"

I would have thought walking down the touchline swearing at the watching nation, which I think neither of them, or any other manager has ever done.

swearing at refs and other officials is not the same thing as swearing down the camera on live TV.

Hmmmm.... @Blueman, "swearing at the watching nation".

Well yeah, maybe, I mean, if you speak Portuguese and are an expert in lip reading, and even then you might have lip read incorrectly, exactly as an independent panel judged earlier today. I'm sure folk at home were distraught.

What it does mean though is that when another manager starts swearing obscenities into the live TV camera's (Maybe even at the opposition fans) then no charges can be brought.
If Jose was caught showing the middle finger and muttering "Feck ya'all" on the live camera, he would have been fined/banned by FA and most United fans would have agreed that there would be repercussions.
Given that he was not audible and was muttering in Portuguese and the lengths that FA went to get him charged, makes it ridiculous.

The charge was a joke, but how was it not proven? did the independent commission have no Portuguese speakers on it?

I'd like to know how much money was spent investigating this nonsense.

I am guessing that the commission thought that they didn't have 100% proof and hence it was better to dismiss it. Lip reading is not an absolute proof. Different people could interpret differently

Fair. I completely forgot you couldn't hear it.

Independent panel finds that no audio evidence and spotty video evidence is not enough. FA incensed that they can't meet their quotas.

Excellent point but you can imagine that those at the FA have managed to convince themselves that they were 'right' to make the charge.

Another point; you can be sure that the FA will scrutinise anything and everything Jose does to even the score.

The FA are thinking of appealing! Who is sat in FA HQ who believes that this is a good idea, it’s just wasted time and money.

Fair. I completely forgot you couldn't hear it.

Just the idea of trying to punish someone by lip reading is ludicrous. I hope United's legal team just played them this and dropped the mic...

What a weird, weird bastard this guy is.

The FA don't like losing a case, especially where United are concerned.

They will be out for blood after this.

The FA are gonna go after us at every opportunity now, if they didn’t already .

It comes to something when you have to deploy lawyers to stop the FA from levying charges against your manager for stuff that must happen at literally every single game.

This is what the third, fourth time since Mourinho has been here that he'd been charged for something that must happen numerous times a week with any number of managers and coaching staff in every single league.

@Blueman is correct. Damn right I was distraught. After 7 hours of research and verifying with experts in both fields, the inconclusive result had me close to tears.

So, to clarify, they based this entire case on a lip-reading?
Someone tell me that this is not true.

I've yet to see a video having any audio of what he said. It was also only on specific broadcasters (Sky I believe). So the only people affected by this are Portugese lip readers that watched Sky.

I had no idea what he said until a Portugese person on here told me.

Won't they embarrass themselves if they actually try to appeal that ? They'll look like their only objective is to ban Mourinho whatever it takes.

LOL. Yep
And should their appeal fail, it'll be extremely embarrassing.

Commission: Play the video please
(Video plays)
Commission: Why can't I hear anything? Do you hear anything?
FA: No. But we employed lip readers to try to understand what is being said and what is being said is this.
Commission: You what?? And then what is this?
FA: That is Portuguese
Commission: I don't understand Portuguese
FA: That is where we hired translators
Commission: Are you guys some kind of crazy SOB
FA: That is offensive.
Commission: Yes, and that is audible and in English. Now get out.

One of our players also had a ban extended (Rio I think) and the grounds was because we had made a "frivolous appeal". I hope if the FA plan to appeal they get similar treatment.

I wouldn't mind one bit if that shitty joke of an organisation disintegrated into nothingness. Shitehawks.
Yeah, that was Rio. To be fair, that one was at least justified, used to be that the appeal for players would take ages and it was hysterically blatant that we just wanted him for the league cup semi against City.

I said earlier I felt for all the Portuguese lip-reading Newcastle fans who’d had their lives ruined by this event.

I remember he stepped about 2 inches onto the pitch at Southampton and was sent off. I think the FA actually apologised for that one though I may be wrong.

For all that Mourinho annoys me when he moans about everything, I do have sympathy when he complains of there being one rule for him and another rule for everyone else. He's definitely targeted more.

If he'd screamed in an officials face as Klopp has done, or marched onto the pitch to aggressively shout at an opposition player as Guardiola has done he'd be fined and suspended without a doubt.

Because I can’t fathomhow a grown adult woud think the FA is anti united or anti Mourinho or anti any team

Have you been living under a rock? They’ve consistently charged, fined and banned Mourinho for far less than what Guardiola and Klopp have done and yet received no attention for whatsoever.

I actually can’t believe people are that naive to it.

FA still hold a grudge over United going into European competition back in the 50s ...

Okay then let’s hear it. What’s your reasoning as to why they are targeting Mourinho and man united and not others?

Swearing down the camera in a language the vast majority watching cannot understand isn't exactly a hangable offence.

I still don't understand why you can't kick a water bottle. Did the bottle sue Jose?
