After the photo came into the news, the school authorities, police and all were brought in. Some of the students have lost their college scholarships and media wants to see some real punishments (like destroying their careers)
Media wants blood.
Even just once or 1,000 times, there is no place for racism/anti-semitism ffs.If this is what they do on a regular basis, yes there is need for action. If it was just one pic, I don't think it warrants extreme actions.
Hilarious reaction to a bunch of teens lifting their hand in a Nazi style salute in Wisconsin, USA for a photo.
Apparently someone said lift your hands and students found it funny to raise it in Nazi salute style, just for fun.

The school administration is now investigating, and Baraboo police tweeted that they are assisting. It's unclear why police would be involved with this -- throwing up a Nazi salute is disgusting and offensive, but it is not and should not be illegal. Still, the school needs to take this seriously. That doesn't mean just a slap on the wrist. The school should have a policy on racist bullying (and if it doesn't, it needs to implement one immediately), and the students should face meaningful consequences -- suspension at the very least, and certainly alerting any colleges to which these students have been accepted.
Right-wing terrorism, including white supremacist and anti-Semitic terrorism, is the biggest domestic terror threat Americans now face. Is each student who raised a Nazi salute in that photo a potential terrorist? Of course not. But this is not merely youthful hijinks. We don't know why these particular young men went along with this pose, but it bears a chilling similarity to the gesture of genocidal regimes that many white supremacist terrorists display. It's no joke.
wait that was a Roman salute.
Regularity is pretty obviously an issue. They did something idiotic (presumably/hopefully) as a one off. If they wake up every morning and do it to start their day, that's obvioysly a different ballpark.
You do wonder when it's a group situation why someone doesn't say 'actually this is a really bad idea'. Sounds they've been materially if some have lost scholarships. Diligent HR departments could find these pics, so it's on them for life.
I bet they won't do it again.
I dunno. People are always going to do stupid shit, especially teens- blackface thread as a case in point.Regularity is an issue if you're a bit of a jerk. If you do something that goes past that, it's not really a consideration anymore. It's not like this is a new thing either, we've known not to do stupid things on social media for about 10 years now.
A suspension and stern talking to, would have sufficed. Not all for this culture's hard-on for punitive measures.
I never put up a Nazi salute or yelled a racial slur. But thank goodness I didn't grow up in this era.
I’m glad about them losing scholarships and colleges being alerted to this. If you’re this stupid you deserve to lose your future, and I say this with no remorse, that’s before you even take into consideration the other things posted in this thread about other acts of racism and bullying.
If a snapshot of one of those moments was used as the only evidence to make that judgment on...I'd feel betrayed by society. I can't see how that's a good way to deal with these things.
This exactly. Kids at that age does stupid shit, but when they are kids the responsibility isn't only on them. To ruin the careers of all the guys in the picture is silly as it seems a systematic problem. I mean, why are they all smilingI think the greater issue is that the school allowed systemic racism and homophobia for years, culminating in that shitshow of a photo.
If anything, the principle and administrators need firing.

I mean, why are they all smilingSays about what has been going on in that school when the dynamic of such a large group finds its collective spirit of happiness and bonding through a Nazi-salute. Funny photo huh? One guy puts his hand up and the rest follows to get rid of the awkwardness. Yeah, that is a group problem, change the whole school over there.
I'll bet the kid in the middle and the other richlooking shitkid left of him is the main culprits, and their dads. Feel sorry for all the other pieces of shitIts fun to hate on shitkids, but ruining all of the people in the picture by fecking up their work situation is too much jesus.
Seems like a bunch of nerds to me, but whatever floats your boat I guess.beautiful boys
You are a true man of charity
Don't worry, unlike 18 year old minorities who got caught smoking a joint in the 1990s, none of these poor, under-privileged, unfairly victimized beautiful boys will face any actual career penalties. They will quite easily plug into the Tucker Carlson/Hannity/Fox/Right Wing networks and be hailed as Champions of Free Speech.
I am sure these unfortunate, struggling yet clearly noble youth appreciate your concern for their earning potential. You are a true man of charity
I don't trust shit about shit so for all I know some crazy dude made them all do the signs and then took the picture to feck with them. Some of you chase targets in this thread even, for which there is no need. I mean Racism, Nazism etc. is a pretty easy stand to take. So you aren't exactly all heroes and angels. I refuse to wish bad upon a human without proper evidence. Seems some of ya'll can't wait. Great folks
Completely agree that they'll do just fine, unlike many of their non white colleagues who end up getting chewed up in the system.
For people saying just a slap on the wrist would do, these are just silly teens doing silly teen things..What would you think if this was a group of Muslim boys holding up....I don't know...an ISIS flag? Who swore it was nothing but a joke after? Would it also be ok to just give them a quick telling off? Or would you want something more?
Not to mention the pretty appalling systemic issues that seem to be coming out about this school.
Who are these guys? I don't follow twitter tbh so I don't really trust pictures and sources like that. Is he a journalist?

Anyways, I see some of you had a thought about it and calmed down a bit, that was needed. Not good to wish bad on people, least of all kids even if they are or aren't rich. Seems really bitter and all this hatred aimed at specific groups just bothers me and it should bother most, so think about your values if they are thorough sometimes, not just the politic image of yourself but your actual human values.
Ah, well at least he is a journalist even if its just online. Not sure what doxxing is, if you would care to explain? Someone doxxed him for making it an article? It is the guy who broke the story, including the original photo. He then published the DMs he got later in the day. The journalist himself was then doxxed (with his grandparents address).
About the bit in bold - there's some hatred of specific groups very obviously shown in this thread, no? My political values and actual human values are in agreement that Nazi ideas are bad, I'm quite sure of that.
The story here is that apparently racism is fairly common at the high school in question and the school has done nothing to clamp down on it. Plus it sounds like one of the student's parent or something encouraged this picture.Original photo looks like a shit joke by some privileged dipshits. On its own I don't think it provides justification to ruin their lives. Even crap people should be allowed to feck up a joke.
I find some Nazi humour very funny. To Have and Have Not, Fawlty Towers, The Producers, Mitchell and Webb etc. If that means feck me then ok feck me.
I'm not about to psychoanalyse someone's Twitter profile so if they are actually rabid Nazis then ilI' have to take the cafs word on it.

That sounds bad.I imagine racism is quite common in a lot of places.
I didn't say they had a neo-nazi problem. I said it appears as if they have quite a high tolerance towards racism. Which, going by the stories put up in that Twitter thread, doesn't seem to be that much of a stretch. You can't really use individual cases of racist incidents at the school to come to a definitive conclusion that there is an actual neo nazi problem there.
There was a bunch of other stuff in the twitter thread about regular racist behaviour from the students of that school. The fact that they boasted about the one black student giving the salute is a clue in itself.
edit - and sure I had terrible opinions as a teenager too, but this picture seems to be a bit more than trolling or triggering the libs, and these opinions seem to be a bit more than the teenage stupidity.
Reading Mein Kampf? You can be sure where these students got their prejudice from?

Good, me too. Should go without saying, but sadly it doesn't. And it wasn't aimed at you I think, even though I quoted you first, my bad.
