Fergie had nothing but praise for Lingard and predicted he'd be a late bloomer. He'd have definitely played a big part if Fergie stayed on. He's the new Park but Lingard has actually outperformed Park in big games for United.
 
There's definite room for improvement, but I definitely think his energy and movement makes the rest of the team play better. I don't see any other attacker in our side scoring the goal he did tonight. Yeah, it was a mistake, but it was his reading and energy that turned that mistake into a goal. (Lukaku would have stood there pointing to where he wanted the Arsenal player to pass it to him).

Pogba to his credit didn't do that against City last season, Rashford if he had of equalised last night would have grabbed the ball and got straight back for kick off, looking for a winner.
 
Actually the movement between Lingard, Rashford and Martial was the high point of the match for me. Really lost something when Lukaku and then Pogba came on.

There's no reason why you shouldn't celebrate an equaliser in a game of that magnitude. You are just moaning for the sake of it.
 
I didn’t see it so glad to be told otherwise but seen some people saying he was smiling like an idiot at the final whistle? What the feck is that about?

We don’t want our players to celebrate an equaliser? Players go and grab the ball from the net if it’s the 90th min or if they have just gone from 2-0 to 2-1 down. This really is making up reasons to criticise one of our players.

Absolutely. Add Herrera to that also.

Lingard wasn't great technically last night but he's always at least a 6/10 because of what he adds in terms of pressing. Between him, Herrera and Rashford we must have either won possession or caused Arsenal to oof it forward a dozen times. Hell Martial was even embarrassed into pressing high due to those three around him.

I'd take someone who's always a 6 or 7 out of 10 over someone who's often a 4 but occasionally puts in a 9 performance every time.

This is criticism for the sake of it. If he didn't score we would've lost the bloody game. United players have celebrated goals like this in the past. I remember Ruud celebrating his equalizing goal against Spurs when we came from behind to beat them 3-5 in the league. You'd have thought he scored a winning goal in a cup final, he was high fiving everyone. How about Ryan Giggs celebrating in front of Arsenal fans for his equalizing goal at Highbury in the classic 2-2 draw in the early 2000s? Ronaldo did it against them as well in the 2-4 win the season after. Our support loved those moments and still do. Perhaps its the nature of Lingard's celebrations that urks some people.

Nothing to do with standards. You can as well tell the players to stop celebrating every goal, pick the ball the and run to the centre circle everytime they score. Afterall a 3-0 victory is better than a 2-0.
You barely even need to go back a week to see another player that play for a big club celebrating an equaliser in a not-so-big game but apparently, it is everything wrong with Manchester United in 2018. If that is the case, then I don't think anything is wrong with this club.

We're 8th in the premier league.
Instead of over celebrating a jammy equaliser, re-group and try to win the game! It's that simple!
Instead, it was Arsenal who re-grouped and nearly won it on more than one occasion

Manchester United are better than this!

It doesn't matter if we are 8th or whatever. A big game is a big game and it was still the 66th minute. Going by your notion of regrouping to win the game, surely no goal should be celebrated? Because the goal scoring team should regroup and try to protect the lead.
Celebrating a goal actually increases morale and allow the goalscoring team the time to regroup, otherwise, you risk the opposing team hitting back immediately. There's absolutely nothing wrong with what Lingard did.

How come Fergie went apeshit when Ashley Young over celebrated scoring an equaliser at home in the CL back in October 2011?

How come Neville went apeshit at the players over celebrating an equaliser against Blackburn in 2004?

And? Yes because Fergie was always right like about Moyes and Jones.

No he’s not the new Park. Park was better technically and Lingard would never have played a vital part in PSV reaching a champions league semi final. People give Park a lot of disservice but I would kill to have someone like him on our right wing right now.
 
Very poor game from Jesse yesterday. I felt he never really got into the match. Credit to him for the equalizer, but he needs to get more involved even if his movement is good at times.

I’m not bothered about the celebration, but Jesus Christ, why you comparing coming back from 3 goals to one goal down.

That Spurs game we looked dead and buried. Our defence was shaky as feck with Blanc. A draw from 3-0 down would be like a victory.

My thoughts exactly.

Jesse Lingard will never win over some of this crowd. He's a good squad player who chips in with goals and assists. He's no worldie, but people seem to hate him for being selected. What should he do? Refuse to play?

All I can think of is that people invest a lot of muppet emotion into “star” signings. When these inevitably disappoint, they take it out on the cheap or homegrown players and somehow blame them for their darlings’ underperforming.

Edit: just realised that’s bollocks. It may be true today, but it wasn’t in the Fletcher and O’Shea eras.

Strange comparisons, especially using the word hate.

Fletcher was given stick because he was generally played out of position when breaking into the team, using him off the right wing instead of giving him time in central midfield, he was often rotated with Ronaldo which didn't make things any better. He was more or less universally loved after settling in.

O'Shea had it the other way around, very well liked in the early days, stopped progressing and turned into a good squad player, got stick due to his shortcomings (which is hardly a surprise)

Players will always get stick. How much shit didn't Cristiano Ronaldo get ?

Are you being serious?

This is what concerns me reading some posts.... 'the movement between..' . have you not been watching us over the last how many months. We play with no strategy at all. We cannot break teams down. There was NO sign of this changing last night. Look at our goals! A set-piece, with some comedy defending by Arsenal, and a huge punt up the pitch (again followed by comedy defending by Arsenal). This was a typical Lindgard performance... full of nothing at all, scores a flaming tap-in, and makes sure he has a nice dance move at the end of it.

An average player, 'Instagram' player. His impact on games is marginal at best.

yes, his goal was important... but look at his contribution to the match. Again. He is 25 ffs, and he plays and acts like a youth player. Fed up with him.
 
Who cares how he acts, all that matters is how he plays. IMO hes good enough for the squad, but not good enough for where we want to be for our starting line up. But in terms of what we currently have, he is defo good enough to start yesterday and im glad he got his goal.

The energy levels defo dropped when he went off. His movement is probably his biggest asset. I do think a run of games with him Martial and Rashford would benefit all three. I do think we missed a trick by not bringing on Mata for him as what we lost with pace and movement, we make up with ability to keep the ball and find a pass in the oppositions half.
 
Painfully average player delivering a bad performance and scoring a goal to snatch the draw. I think I summed it up for Jesse.
 
Why the hell is he celebrating an equaliser? See that's how I know standards have dropped. We needed 3 points. You should be getting the ball back to the halfway line
 
Thought he was good. Worked his socks off, scored a good but was a little sloppy with his passing.

I don't think you can expect a lot more from him, he's a limited player in a lot of ways and it shows. He lacks that bit of quality that pushes him up a level I feel.
