Very good points, but if it goes well he will get the credit and if it goes badly then Jose's legacy was the problem.
It is hard to see us dropping any lower in the league and the expectation is low as we are so far behind.
Just not being Jose is a big positive to start with.
Seriously, I haven't heard anyone say that they expect even a top 4 finish.

I have spent most of the last six seasons getting less and less interested in Utd after supporting them all my life .
I was only passionate during the Moyes era in wanting him out even before a ball was kicked as I felt he would be a total disaster .
Got more honest when LVG came and was really excited when we signed Di Maria and Falcoa straight away but that soon turned sour . By His second season the football was so dull I stopped watching .
Then came Jose and despite never warming to him he was a winner we signed Pogba and Zlaton and it looked like we would be back winning titles at least again .
However it just seemed off at the beginning he was so miserable at all times here it make me miserable looking at him and listening to him .
By the last couple of weeks I found myself longing for Moyes or LVG again as at least there was some personality there .
Again I found myself not looking forward to watching us too often I would sit and ask myself what the feck am I watching this for
He was so just so toxic in his demeanour how he treated everyone his style of football I genuinely stopped caring .
Oddly enough after the Liverpool game which I stopped watching I did get the feeling we had finally hit the bottom and wouldn't sink any further . I don't know why but it just seemed that enough was enough .
Two days later he is gone and every Utd fan I knew celebrated the same as myself as we heard the news . It was like we had won a title again .
Now Ole is in a plan for the future seems to be in motion and watching and listening to Ole things already seem a lot more positive and hopeful.
I honestly cannot wait to we play again and it's been a long time since I felt like that

Give an honest opinion, maybe some what pessimistic, that is not popular or in with the hope that a United legend will sort the club out and you get lambasted for it.
At the end of the day Ole hasn’t really proved himself to be a top manager, otherwise he would have managed more than Cardiff and Molde. He only got the job because of his legend status and connection to SAF.

The season is not over, far from it. We could still make the CL places. With Ole as manager that is most likely never going to happen.

Sorry to put doom and gloom into the thread. But lets be realistic, yes Solskjaer is a club legend as a player. But he has never set the footballing world alight with his managerial career. So why should he just walk automatically into one of the biggest clubs in the world with no top level managerial accumen.
It would be great for him to do great as it fits amazingly into our fantasy of a United legend being a success for the club. But the reality is that he is not that good of a manager and should not be managing a club as big as this for 6 months.

It was so nice today to hear Ole say I'm a different personality. I like to speak to people, I like to engange with people.
It's exactly what's needed and that's where everything begins if you want to try to develop the players and the team.

Ole is has been given a sh*tty stick I have confidence in him to do a good job but honestly unless we get relegated I won't hold it against him.
Hopefully we'll get a dynamic attacking manager at the end of season (Poch or Zidane please) and we'll have a summer where we actually look forward to the new season.

If he achieves the below, i'll be satisfied.
- Finish in the top 6
- Have a run in the FA Cup
- Give it a good go against PSG
- Bring back attacking football
- Give a few youngsters a go

I particularly liked the we'll think about how we're going to play and not worry too much about the opposition comment he made. That's the "we're United" type of attitude we've all been longing for, no more of this turning up to Brighton and playing two DMs shite.
Look, nobody is expecting Ole to come in and perform miracles. We won't win the league, top-four is highly unlikely and the CL is far beyond our capabilities at this point. The FA cup is a possibility I guess - albeit remote. So long as he sticks with attacking football for the remainder of the season, promotes youth as much as possible and injects an element of positivity into the club, we can't really ask for much more.
His main priorities will be to keep the ship steady whilst those above him begin the restructuring process behind the scenes. He will likely act more as a mate to the players rather than a manager, as such, by giving the players a sense of freedom to express themselves on the pitch, get them smiling again, enjoying their football, that which they have been denied under the restrictive regimes of LVG and Jose.
Keep your expectations in check and you won't be disappointed. For the rest of this season anyway.

To be fair, we've heard exactly the same posts from 99% of this forum, every second of every day for the lat few months. It's a bit rich anybody criticising it now when it's aimed at a manager far, far less successful in management than Mourinho. If we're being realistic, Ole hasn't really built up any sort of reputation in management so his point is valid, even if i don't share his outlook.
We were saying that about mourinho because he's been managing us for 3 years and it was evident on the pitch we would be going nowhere. Ole has only arrived at the club today, let's give him a few game before we all start getting negative again.

True though, I wasn't even Mou out but feck-it, the change was inevitable and it's nice to see some positivity.
Do hope people aren't expecting too much from Ole, it's not an easy job, if he can clear away the negativity hanging around the place and get the culture back then I don't really care where the club is in the table at the end of the season.

Same here. Solskjaer gets a free hit here for me. If it goes badly no one will blame him, if we do okay we'll all be satisfied, if he does brilliantly he keeps the job. It's a no lose situation for me, I'll be at least satisfied regardless of what the eventual outcome of the season is.
Couldn't agree more. Until the last of the Jose acolytes reform themselves there will be burning embers of dissent on here.

Which other and better option than assigning Solskjaer was there? Getting someone like Blanc or Jardim in right away, which no doubt would be called a panic attack decision. Also, why would any of these managers want to step in right now in the middle of the season?
Letting Carrick manage the squad for the rest of the season? He has even less experience and (for me) more importantly he just stepped out of the group as a player so he is very near to many of them.
Getting a fresh person in who has connections to the club was a good idea. I personally did not expect it, but I can enjoy this situation very much. Especially because he has been a coach in our youth system and knows what it is about. If you want to start building for the future again, getting our own young stars in and develop them is a must. Hopefully Chong and Greenwood will be in the match squad the coming games, as Sanchez and Lukaku are absent.
We’ve been united for quite a while now - almost 75% of us wanted the cnut out for a while now but yes it’s great so see people with a buzz for the game and having a manager who is one of us - a fan.

Have to agree. I never tipped over to being Jose out, but unless Ole gets us relegated this is the best outcome.
It wasn't really working with Jose, but a lot of people have pointed out it hasn't worked with anyone so far, it's something endemic to the structure of the club. Getting someone positive (and beloved in) to inject some life into the place in the short-term (in a season where results are now just academic) while we work behind the scenes to change the structure, appoint the right people and actually work over a long period to get a manager in who actually has a vision that fits is the right idea entirely - we should have done this ages ago. If that is what's happening and the rumours are correct.
