Post-match discussion

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet but did it bother anyone else that Lingard demanded to take the penalty the other day? Yes he won it, yes he took it very well and yes we were 3-1 ahead at the time but Lingard isn't our number 1 penalty taker is he? I think Martial is and your number 1 penalty taker should always take the penalties. Under Ferguson that was the way it was, so do we think that Solskjaer will demand that the next penalty we win is taken by our first choice taker?

That argument seems logical and his main influence is SAF, but we can't be sure if he doesn't have another way of deciding. I think its too early to tell

I’ve seen our change in tactics yesterday described as “subtle” by a couple of media outlets, which is absurd considering the changes couldn’t have been more overt.

The only consistent elements were the line up and the formation, almost everything else was different and even a tactical novice like myself could see this.

Pressing, high full backs, forward passing, playing out from the back, movement off the ball. It was a revolution in terms of style.

I expect part of it is wanting to imply that Ole didn’t change much and it’s just the players giving a shit again which made the difference - Shearer’s nonsense spiel on MOTD yesterday seemed to confirm this.

Yes the players were sick of Mou but he clearly had them set up in a disgustingly negative way.

Also the reductive idea of players giving 100% every game no matter what the circumstances makes me laugh and needs challenging more - I’ve seen both Jose and the thicker pundits try and spin it this way the last few weeks.

At the very top level psychology is so so important in getting results - Jose should know this better than anyone, and it was snide of him to imply that the players were unprofessional if they couldn’t do this every game under any manager.
Agreed, Ole played like PES. Always keep moving the ball forward! And if we lose it, fine we come defend. That's nice because it forces changes. Sure, it does look a bit naive and we will pay a very high price against more mature oppositions, but smaller oppositions, we should just keep passing forward until we can score.
