Is Ole a good appointment?

PSG is a bonus. If we win that great, if not, it's not the end of the world.

Top 4 finish and an Fa Cup should get him the job. Finish outside the top 4 and it's up for debate
 
Sarri needs a season to implement his Sarri Ball that has won nothing ever after getting slapped by Bournemouth. Ole (plus Phelan, Carrick and Mckenna) after an unconvincing win against Leicester is not all that.

We are the in-form team at the moment, even when we play shite we win, when we play well we win comfortably. Most games we play well. He's doing almost everything right.

Same here, For the last season or two United games ceased to be must see TV for me and now its back, we are still a work in progress but definitely fun to watch again. If we use the summer transfer window wisely we'll be challenging for titles next season. I hope the board decides to stick with Ole
 
Loving their dedication to go watch our opponents, Ole was shown watching one of our upcoming opponents recently (can't remember who it was)

I think the next manager is very open to criticism- you hire Ole and he does badly you'll get the people saying should have gone for Poch. You get Poch and he does badly, people will question why we didn't keep Ole especially after the start he has made.

Most of the last posts think its between Ole and Poch- does anyone think anyone else is potentially under consideration?

The good thing about both is they are young so if they do well we potentially have several years of stability established again. However interesting point someone raised a few posts back about what would Poch do if Madrid or Barca came calling.

I think your last line is a huge part of the consideration. If Ole gets it, and things go well, he'll stay for life. This is the absolute pinnacle for him, it's exactly where he wants to be, where he dreams to be.

If Poch gets it, he could stay a while, but he could also fancy a new challenge in a few years, or might be tempted by the lure of Real Madrid etc.

Its not the biggest factor, but it certainly is a factor for me.
 
I don't get those worrying about transfers business if we sign Ole.

First, players who sign for the manager only, isn't going to last at any club very long because managers don't stay long term anymore. Most players sign for the club first and foremost.

And second, if we hire a DOF, he should be responsible for transfers, not the coach anyway.
 
By far, the biggest benefit of Ole’s reign( a settled lineup and style of play)is it afforded united clarity on which players don’t suit the system. No more gambles like Sanchez, lukaku etc.

Agreed. You cannt make a silk purse out of a sows ear. If we get top 4 it really is a miracle considering we were 11 points off when the toxic one was sacked.
 
Ole came in at a point of absolute zero expectation, and while it might be difficult after dragging us right back into contention, it should (relatively) stay that way.

Insane to be complaining this much following a win, given what we were getting served up before his arrival.

Sure, I've a few concerns about the performance. Perhaps we could have dropped points, but the only reason these points even matter that much right now is because of an absolutely ridiculous run to drag us back into contention.

Tough month ahead. Let's see how we get on.

Exactly. If Poch is the alternative, he’s not exactly a big name either. Pep is probably the only manager around who actually attracts players.

Who is the manager of Madrid? Doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to anyone going there. They are attracted to the club not the guy who is the manager for the next 3-12 months.
 
If we say Cardiff = Stoke (Stoke second from bottom, Cardiff second from top) then compare fixtures since Ole took over to last season:

Cardiff/Stoke A: +2 (2-2 last season, 5-1 this season)
Huddersfield H: 0 (2-0 last season, 3-1 this season)
Bournemouth H: 0 (1-0 last season, 4-1 this season)
Newcastle A: +3 (0-1 last season, 2-0 this season)
Spurs A: +3 (0-2 last season, 1-0 this season)
Brighton H: 0 (1-0 last season, 2-1 this season)
Burnley H: 0 (2-2 last season, 2-2 this season)
Leicester A: +2 (2-2 last season, 1-0 this season)

+10 in total. Not bad!

Why can’t we just enjoy it? We are on a great run with a top legend who loves the club in charge. I am so proud of Ole. The job he has done so far is simply astonishing. I have also fallen in love with the club again, and the values that comes with it. Really hope he and the teams keeps this up so Ole gets the permanent gig.

There are a number of factors for a footballer to consider when deciding upon his next destination, but the allure of a fat weekly paycheque trumps them all. In most cases anyway.

Ole will have no trouble securing his targets. How could anyone say no to that smile?

It's hard not talk about Ole without the emotion of what he means to fans and the club and rightly so. If we were just signing a player now from the Norwegian league not to mention a manager, fans would lose their mind and that's my point really. No one can argue with what he's done since Jose and long may it continue. I'm just being curious as this is very unusual circumstances he's taken over and the level of expectation was so much lower and good feel factor so much higher. No one expected us to even be in this position and I'm interested how he copes as the expectation changes. Big month of Feb and we will know if he's the real deal at the end of it. Good thing for me is I'm actually looking forward to it....
 
Lets put it in to perspective any manager who has won 9 out of 10 matches would be raved about. Ollie has been a breath of fresh air for United supporters. We know we need a new centre back, a right back and a right winger but ollie is getting the best out of the current bunch of players. It simple if ollie gets us in to the top 4 and a run in the cups he deserves a run in the top job. Any United supporter i know would love if ollie to gets the job, he stand for for everything that's good about United. Forget Woodward and the bs about being the club that makes the most money, ollie and his beliefs are what the club is all about.
 
IMO, based on what he has done since taking over, Ole has nothing else to prove to get the permanent role. Players like him, he is charming with the press, he is United through and through, he is liked by all ex United players as well as all the influential United figures, and etc and etc....

I don’t see how giving him several years could hurt considering where we’ve been since fergie retired.

Yep, no matter who we sign we will probably sort out a structure to have a more stable and consistent transfer strategy - one hopefully in line with what we know United should be. Ole will have an input, same as any manager, but its not all going to be him handling all that or anyone else. We have enough of a set up where I think the option of least risk tbh is to keep Ole.

How do people think the players would react at Ole not getting it and Pochettino coming in? The players clearly love Ole. Keep it. If things get to a point where we need to change, then we change, but thats the case with anyone. Ole has shown he knows what direction United needs to go in, and has shown with his staff that he's capable of getting us to play like that. He doesnt have to win the Champions League or top 4 this season to get it, Mourinho left us with such a big task that its a miracle where we are, but still plenty of tough games to come that its no shame if we dont make it.

And like you said. Players will more likely sign for a style of play. They'll look at United as a giant on the rise playing fast attacking football and want part of it. Pochettino comes in, who the feck knows how we'll play or who the team will be built around?
 
He can have the job as far as I'm concerned. Sets the team up right and we play the right way. Just down to player issues now.
 
Let us reflect on the last three managers. At one time or another many contributors to this forum expressed views that none of the 3 previous managers were managing the team and playing in the most part "The United Way".
Now we have a manager who not only is getting the players to play "The Utd., Way", but also enforcing and instilling in them what is expected when they pull on that shirt both on and off the field and he does this not only from his own experiences of being part of the club for a number of years but by collecting around him as his coaching staff previous serving players and coaches of the club.
Players are clearly responding to his style of management and his coaching staff, which will eventually ripple down from the senior players to the most juniors players and the club will again become very successful at all levels given time.
Now what if we appoint poch., a manger that has no knowledge of the club or it's traditions, brings in his own ideas and coaching staff we will be once again back to square one. If he then fails to emulate Ole's first 10 games and say loses 4 at the start of the season what then, the fans will question every game and I am sure sponsors will ask questions of Woodward and the board.
For me I am in favour of appointing Ole as a future manager for say the next 3 years, yes it is a leap into the dark but not in my opinion as much as Poch.

If you saw this form anywhere you'd think this team was challenging for titles. You gonna have ups and downs, games where you are marvellous others when you are Shite but come end of the season everyone just remembers the results and record
 
Nice that we can grind out results if we need to. Leicester isn’t an easy game especially coming off the back of their draw at Anfield.

And that is in the context of having a club stuck in a toxic culture (which seems to have gone) and with OGS not having single signing of his own

Very happy with him, with just two areas is like to see improve:
1) Give youth a chance. We've 4 very bright prospects who deserve some game time in the upcoming fixture congestion

2) Font make the same mistake twice. Specifically, Mata on the right is just sabotaging the team

First world problems in the grand scheme of things
 
This is a title winning form, however you look at it. And the football is really good also.

So even after beating Barcelona and their current position in the league does not qualify them as a top team? If so, why should we be hankering after a manager who after so many years, have not made Spurs a top team but simply plucky underdogs as you imply?

Consider how he joined the club as a player in the first place. Aint nobody would have chosen him over Shearer. This is the most romantic football club in the world, so many things have just fallen into place like a story through the tragedy and the glory. I really think this is just another surreal chapter unfolding and Olé getting this job is just meant to be. I'm slightly intoxicated.
 
Just give him the job permanently and let him start planning for next season.
 
What is wrong with some of you here? Ole has won 9/10 games here and won today v a really good attacking team. This could have been better but what really did it for me was the will and graft our players showed. Even Pogba was running and giving his all. This is what good teams do , win ugly.. Liverpool had at least 5-6, ugly 1-0 games this season.. Hence being on top.

Ole has done such a great job that some of you cant even get how great this result was. This is the team who couldnt get a run going for a long time.
For me Ole has done nothing wrong over these 6 weeks, long may it continue..
 
I think these 1-0 away wins against decent opposition tells you much more about the management team than us battering some of the weaker teams at home. This result actually impressed me, kept a clean sheet despite not playing all the well and limited Leicester to a few chances.
 
Our midfield is performing so well these days and it's not just the United spirit of Ole but also the tactics. We're giving up the wings somewhat making it more difficult for the fullbacks to defend but we're not conceding many passes between FB and CB or balls through the middle but rather defending crosses from out wide which is easier for the CBs to deal with.

God I hope Ole gets the job. As many have said, since he's come in I feel like my club is back. For the first time since fergie I'm really looking forward to watching games, checking the forum religiously etc, it just feels like a perfect fit.

When you meet the one you just know it, just listen to any Lionel Richie song. Now put a ring on it already Ed don't be a tease.
