Honestly I want him and his team here. My biggest fear was that he might get a lesson or two from the other big team managers but so far we never looked like we were played of the pitch by any of the other big teams. If we can bring in someone who can help him do a good job in the transfer market and spotting the right talents he will have a great managerial career with us as well.

Against palace I'd keep the back four from today then have Fred, McTominay and Perriera, with Pogba behind Lukaku and Sanchez.

The biggest compliment I can give him other than everything that has already been said is just how much confidence tactically I now have in our defence (don;t want to jinx it!)
Just watch the way our players understand instinctively which areas to cover to protect that box when we're being attacked.
Always vigilant tracking of runners without being obsessive, players back into a nice shape and essentially showing teams down the wings to stop teams playing through us which ironically was all too easy under Mou.
Often you'll see the top RF and RM cover each other if either of them goes to press. If both go, another Mid or the CF often drops to cover the space created etc. Just really interesting how Ole is settling us into a traditional post-Quieroz SAF defensive shape where players are growing and learning what to do when x player of ours goes and loses the ball; we rarely panic and always have covers available.
Can't wait to see what ole does now he has injuries aplenty and look forward to him being backed by the board and assemble a squad to fight on all fronts.

I don't think he's had a break after initial run of games, constantly being tested due to big matches, injury and personnel problems.
Job is his for next 3 years if he steers us to a Top 4 finish.

It's like the games since December have been set up as an audition.
First, some easy ones to warm up. Then step up the challenge game by game. Then, throw in some injuries to key players to see how Ole copes. And lastly, add injuries to key players during a match to verify a correct answer to the challenges.

For me, it should be his even if we do not finish Top 4.
He did enough to show that he can handle the job.
Whoever comes in is going to lose games against the top teams so it's unfair to apply a unique set of criteria to OGS. Every one was saying we need to how he does against PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool, Well he's had a W, D and an L and wasn't really humiliated either. Very unlucky with the injuries.
I guess people will just keep kicking the can down the road waiting for him to have a run of defeats so that they can bleat on about Poch.
Have to agree. I was, originally, in the Poch camp. But his results, and the adversities he’s had to cope with the injuries tell me if it’s not broken then don’t fix it. May be tough to get top 4 now if the injuries mount up so we shouldn’t use that against him given how thin the squad is in terms of quality. He’s passed every test and the players are clearly playing for him. Give him the job soon and we may see even more fight from a depleted squad.
It's a huge risk not giving him the job now, which is a testament to the work he has put in to clean up the mess Mourinho made before he was booted. Ole has to be given the job, and I do believe he's gonna get it, if he hasn't already.
I don't think you can give huge criticism for him subbing on Lingard. All he's got is Lingard's word and as a local lad, Jesse is going to want to go out there and want to be the guy who beats the scousers, let alone say he's fit and to get himself onto the pitch asap.
As mentioned before, all the stuff he should be tested on is conveniently being put to the forefront from games vs lesser teams, two games in a week, big away games, big home games, coming back from losing positions, the next game after you drop points for the first time, the next game after you lose, injuries happening in games etc

After 14 matches in charge I think I'm ready to say I think he's the right choice for manager. We completely nullified Liverpool today, not an easy feat at all. We not only nullified them but we were the better team, taking into account the injuries we had that's very impressive. He's shown he's capable of getting the best out of what he has but the last question mark for me is his transfers, although we won't be able to make a judgement on that until after summer.
The style of play we use is enjoyable to watch and we play logical counter-attacking football against the better teams effectively, he's earned bonus points for attacking subs late in the game. The players are obviously happy, one thing that stuck out to me today was the togetherness. Pogba's transformation is the biggest factor though, in the past if he started a game slowly like he did today he would've faded but instead he got better and better as the match wore on. He seems tactically flexible and will tinker with the team if necessary, putting together a make-shift team because of all the injuries in back to back big games and coming away looking the better team in both is really impressive.
With Smalling back our defence looks genuinely solid, we don't seem to be conceding many chances like we were when he first took over. Shaw's been steadily improving too, he was excellent today. I don't think there's a player who hasn't looked better since he came in, that includes Young, Lukaku and Sanchez who all are playing slightly better than they were under Mourinho. We're not the finished article yet but there's a lot of promise being shown. Give him the job I say.

For me he should get it, give him a 2 year deal, nothing terrible will happen with him in charge, if its not quite enough as in getting right back too the top then we say thanks and move on, but i believe in him personally, think he has done great.

He seemed to mention post-match that Lingard was expected to play 60-70 minutes and the injury he was substituted for wasn't the same as his previous.
True, imagine we struggle through the first half of next season with the new guy, fans would be up in arms. We really don't need a new guy who's going to have to learn our clubs culture from scratch when someone who understands it already is here and doing such a great job. He has well and truly earned his shot unlike some nomad we are likely to pick up. Pretty sure Molde would respect his wishes.
Forget the results/tactics and all that secondary stuff... I don't want to lose that song.

For me, Ole picked the right team again and on balance we were the better side today just a shame about the injuries.
On the injuries, I worry this is a problem we're going to be suffering from. Mourinho and his team didn't condition the players to play a fast pressing game so we're going to see a few more of our players breaking down i'm afraid.

I know it's not exactly technical, statistical detail, but when you see him on the touchline you just get this immense sense of urgency and engagement from him that we've not seen in a while. He's just utterly and completely invested in this, which is great to see. That investment means he's often on edge, but simultaneously he looks like someone in control as well. While it's not exactly a prerequisite for giving someone the job in itself, it's just great to see someone managing the club who enjoys being here and who seems to derive some sort of pleasure from doing the job.
It's ace, we surely must come up with the best chants in football, nearly all of them are class.
He has to manage the fitness of these players better. We cannot afford to run our legs off 15 games into a season. We were organised today though and defended well, credit to the coaching staff.

well you need full pre season to work with the squad and build it up. after 2 years of no conditioning to press 15 games of high intensity is taking it's toll. even Liverpool under Klopp were gassed after 70mins when he first arrived.
Yes but we could have managed it better in these 15 games. Herrera and Lingard were always gonna break down. It’s happened very quickly.

He's barely put a foot wrong so far. The mood at the club has completely changed in a few short weeks. A lovely guy and he's producing the results. So far so good.

Because we can’t rest players. We tried resting Herrera against burnley and slipped up. We have lots of players but our squad is not great.
No one could foresee Herrera and matic getting injured in space of 2 days and martial Jesse mata and now rasher getting injured.

We put our trust in him as a caretaker and he showed great loyalty to us by dropping his job at Molde to answer the call on a temporary basis.
We also promised him that although temporary, he can earn a perm deal if he impresses.
It’s been nearly 3 months now he’s unbeaten in the league, dropping points just twice despite all the questions asked of him and this squad.
There is no realistic scenario that exists whereby he is more worthy of taking the job full time. He’s exceeded expectation in all aspects from results to style to quality. From players improving both individually and collectively. He’s played with multiple vastly different tactical approaches which had utilised the variety of skill sets he has on offer.
Just give him the bloody job and back him with serious money in the summer and I genuinely believe that we will make a push for the title.

He's taken another leaf out of Fergie's book by letting Mike Phelan do the touchline stuff while he studies the action. They handled the enforced changes very well today and the players responded to rapidly changing instructions. If they don't hand him the keys to the kingdom and a whopping transfer budget, there will be a lot of seriously pissed-off United fans.
So does he get credit for getting the players to step up and snuffing our Liverpool in the second half? Or is it just Ole with the bad decisions and credit to the players as your post implies?

there had to be a balance struck between resting players and winning games to get back into the top 4 contention. hes quickly decided on his best 11 just like other big teams and we've also come to know which players don't fit his style so you'd imagine with a strong pre season and more options we would in very good place to deal with injuries.
I'm now beginning to think it's inevitable he will get the job and rightly so. He's not quite the finshed article so I am intrigued as to what the club can do to supplement his potential weaknesses. Nothing against Phelan as such but there must be are more astute number two around that can get the best out of Ole and the squad.
The way the entire stadium, bar the Liverpool fans obviously, in the 2nd half started to sing the Ole's at the wheel song for most of the 2nd half was actually pretty moving.

The biggest fears/worry I had about him after the first few games (where I was already ready to give him the job) was how we would be defensively in big games. We've now played Spurs away, Arsenal away, Chelsea away, Leicester away, PSG at home and Liverpool at home out of pretty big games. In those 6 games, we've kept clean sheets against Spurs, Chelsea, Leicester and Liverpool, conceding 1 in a 3-1 win to Arsenal, and then the 2 against PSG. It's amazing really.
I'd be amazed if he isn't given the job. It's a no brainer. Would be a travesty to pick Pochettino over him tbh.

Why exactly is Phelan not an astute number two? How can you come to this conclusion especially after today where it looked like a Phlean defensive masterclass performance.
