Internationals March (Euro Qualifiers + Friendlies)

Dominant, creative and astute performance by England.

What I was thinking about in a sad way however, was how poor Czech were. I recall them being a lot better in the early 2000s.

Crap match by Argentina, and a less than memorable performance by Messi.
I'll give you the first one. Not Messi's greatest performance but still Argentina's best player by a mile. Created all their chances playing as a CM.

I think in games like today I'd have Bernardo Silva as part of the midfield too. Bruno Fernandes was injured so Pizzi should have started imo. Don't know why he subbed off Neves instead of William or why he put on João Mário when there were 5 minutes to go.

Serbia is a must win game now. feck going to the playoffs, can't be bothered with the stress of that again.

Yeah I wondered where B.Fernandes was (he's another good player that I usually place in the midfield 3 if I'm not using Pizzi or Bernardo). And yeah the subs were really odd to me too. One thing's for sure though; B.Silva isn't anywhere near as effective out wide as he is in the centre or perhaps he's just poorer in general for Portugal than City. Hopefully the team improve in the next game so things don't start getting complicated with regards to qualification.

You'll surely be top 2, right?

That Andorra team...

Horrible pitch, even for astro turf standards. Two banks of 5 in defense with pretty much no thought to attacking. Constantly bickering the ref, diving and timewasting and probably foul more than any other team in Europe (average fouls per match is ~40). Good to get that game out of the way early with a win. They had previously gone 5 games in a row without losing at home with Portugal the last team to beat them 1-0 with a late goal.

We should but Ukraine and Serbia are good teams. If we fail to beat Serbia on Monday then it will get complicated.

Going to Ukraine or Serbia needing a win is a nightmare.

Whatever. Still the best microstate NT of Europe.

I think all the former Soviet states in Central Asia were allowed to choose whether they wanted to compete in the UEFA or AFC set ups when the new republics formed after the USSR dissolved. I think Kazahkstan were the only ones to choose Europe.
The players from the USSR could also choose from any of the new states to play for if they wanted, Andrei Kanchelskis is Ukrainian but played for Russia, although there were plenty of rumours why.
I think it was the same across all the former Communist bloc nations, players from a country which broke up into smaller republics could play for any of the new nations created by their country being fragmented into new states, or looking at it another way, reverting to the way they were before being amalgamated into Soviet satellite states post WW2.

They started out in the AFC but moved to UEFA in the early 2000s.

Ridiculous that it was allowed really. Kazakhstan is literally central Asia.

How they play football says nothing about the country or their people. Uruguay is an infuriating team to play against in football and are also a lot better and tougher despite population disadvantages. Iceland is similar but did it without the diving, time-wasting and ref-complaining. I don't mind being a bit dirty or defensive but that was a bit too much.

Should be an easy home win against Finland today. Want to see us play well as well to see if we are finally heading into the right direction.

Is that Argentina current NT squad for real? Or just some tests for friendlies? Because most of those players should play for Brighton, Atalanta or Leganés at best!

Worst bunch of footballers Messi has ever played with.

Just noticed something about the main tournament: having the Euro's in multiple cities will have major consequences for the draw. A lot of the big teams that host can't be in each other's group, even if the others are not seeded. Example: England can't meet Spain, Italy, Netherlands or Germany in the group stage because the host cities are assigned to different groups. Also the smaller host nations already know what bigger team they'll have to play. Example: if Scotland qualify they're in England's group.

Will be a very limited number of options when the draw takes place i guess. Add to that the play-offs will be played AFTER the draw. Special to say the least.

Finland were pretty good in the Nations League and Italy's attacking options aren't great.....my prediction is a 0-0 draw.

It was a shit idea.

I think Georgia will get at least a draw against Switzerland.

No no;)
First half was absolutely dreadful. Slow and sloppy, Xhaka at his worst. We changed the formation at halftime and played a lot better and deserved the win. Could have been 3 or even 4. Georgia are absolut shit. But its not an easy game away in Tiflis. Ireland and Denmark also wont have the three points for free over there.

I guess nobody cares much about Sweden now that Lindelöf is out :D But anyway, hoping to see abit of Alexander Isak (who's been on fire recently) and Ken Sema in the second half.

The big game just started; Gibraltar vs Rep of Ireland.
Windy as heck there. You’d think that huge rock would offer some break;)

Fair point. Forgot about Finland having a good Nations League campaign and us being very poor upfront. Still expect to win though.

Can't even enjoy international football without that turd Michael Oliver's smug face showing up on the screen.

Romania gifting Sweden two goals.

How is Berg starting ahead of him? I'm at the match, the guy is painfully average and Janne plays dinosaur football. No Sema, No Isak, 0 pace...

How much will Spain win against Norway? I'm going with 5-0.

Bailly going for another header off a corner comes off worst in a clash of heads. Was down for a few minutes but is sitting up now.

edit: Walking now and is subbed off.
