You must be wumming if you can't remember that warging is a part of the mythology of GoT.

I think maybe him being unable to relinquish his love for Cersei since they were lovers and shared a womb together as twins could be fitting. But him after leaving Brienne becoming the bad old Jaime again and saying he doesn't care about the fate of the common folk was bad writing imo. Even when he was the young and cocky kingslayer, he called Aerys and the pyromancer and saved the city. Now that he's gone through a story of redemption and helped saved the world against the white walkers, he just switches back to being evil old Jaime who cares nothing about the fate of others.

If you have watched every other episode, id just say watch it yourself and then form your thoughts. After all, its just one episode and the finale. Just a thought ;)
 
I liked that ending. Only thing I truly miss is some more background on the Night King, but I guess they're saving that for the prequel.

I don’t think you’re supposed to take his word literally. He’s basically just saying his love for Cersei trumps everything else which has been his consistent characterisation from episode 1.

I have loved the show and i am very sad that it has now ended, since it was a major part of my life for 10 years and something to look forward every year.

Now, i know people have moaned alot about last season in particular. I have plenty of issues with certain things aswell, for eg why make such a hue about John being a Targareyn, if eventually he will not even be considered for the throne.

Secondly to all those people who are not happy with final season, i would really like to know, if given another chance what major plots would you change?

For example i would have prefered this probably, the moment John kills Dany the dragon screams would have alerted the dothraki and unsullied and a possible show down with Greyworm with John killing him and then Drogon roasting him alive would have been better, since John didnt want the crown anyway and he has always been doing things whats best and Dany for seven kingdoms was not best, so his arc would have been completed dying infront of Dany with all Targs gone.
 
They got the last two seasons, particularly this one, horribly wrong.

Shame really as it had the potential to be a TV series GOAT contender.

So, yeah... I guess I'm okay with all the fates of the principal characters, but so little of it was properly explained. Who was that kid representing Dorne? Why was Yara okay with not getting independence? In fact, why were everyone else okay with the North being granted independence, while they continued under the new king? Why was Bronn made the most powerful lord in all of Westeros? Yes, the Crown owed him money, but you'd think he'd settle for a fancy title and a castle somewhere? He's a thoroughly unreliable and untrustworthy person, who serves only his own interests. Making him the most powerful lord around seems moronic. Handing off the Reach to someone decent and honourable, like Ser Davos, would have made more sense.

Maybe if they, you know, took the fecking time to actually tell the fecking story, we might have had answers to all of this.

Which is a shame, because this show was much better than those two at its height. Maybe D&D should have just bowed out and let someone else take over the reigns, their hearts were clearly not in it anymore. They've been preoccupied with their new HBO show and Star Wars. And given the quality of the writing in GoT after they ran out of books to adapt, I don't have high hopes for those. I guess for Star Wars, they can just start reading old expanded universe books. Maybe they'll find something to adapt there.

My main three among loads of options would have been,

1) More of NK plot line. They build it up right from the first scene of the show and the ending was rather meh!
2) Zero role for Euron the stupid- (This would have significantly improved the season)
3) Jamie killing Cersei because she refuses to resign or use innocent as human shield. That would have been his & hers story arc complete.
 
My major gripe was the completely tonedeaf comic relief. The ending itself is fine really. Like the last half hour of LoTR.


I was just hoping Bran's eyes would turn blue.
 
Better possible endings:
- Drogon takes Dany to some magical place north of the Wall, she becomes the Night Queen and fade to black
- Bran stands up when Jon kneels, reveals it was all a lie and his master plan was to have these mere mortals help him become king and that he and his sisters would rule the Kingdom now unchallenged (the Keyser Soze ending)
 
They raped it, they killed it, they murdered it's spinoffs. They just went full Gregor Clegane on that tv show.

The thing is it ended how many expected, the characters ended up where they should be just in the most hamfisted way possible. That whole democracy scene with the new leaders was atrocious.

Greyworm arresting Jon was stupid, they should have executed him given the way it played out. The negotiations were shockingly poor like -5/10. Pick a king, and the guy who isn't allowed speak does all the talking.

Drogon burning the IT was super cheesy, again letting Jon live. The luckiest man in Westeros.

Wouldn't mind but it started out ok. I've blasted Emilia Clarke a lot but she was very good in the last two episodes in terrible circumstances. My God, what a mess.

The killer is how much they've Walking Deaded it, they made intelligent characters extremely stupid just to hit plot targets.

I hope D&D fail miserably from now on. The writing of GRRM propped them up, but they're conmen.

Hey, I've been knighted in Crusader Kings: A Game of Thrones mod for less.

Incidentally, in my head a highborn Valyrian from Essos came over on his dragon before Ned had his head chopped off, took the throne from Joffrey and married Arriane Martel. Then he killed Dany before finding out that his own son was a lunatic who liked killing small animals.

But he was Azor Ahai reborn, died at the hands of the Night King before coming back to life and destroying the army of the dead.

Jon isn't the kind who will sneak in a murder. His character is always upfront. He would have told Dany after all those questiions that he had to kill her. Dany needed some kind of reaction to his intentions, being emotionally heartborken, angry or just shocked. If she tried to defend herself, Jon would kill her asap before Drogon came in, with some tearful 'I'm sorry my queen' in the process.

This whole business of her just dying so quickly after being stabbed was just bad writing.
 
I still think episode 5 was the worst of the series for me. As people have said, they needed WAY more time to flesh this out, not just one episode for the NK, a few for Cersei and one and a half episodes for Daenerys. They sacrificed time and script quality for a quick big budget finale that was rushed and silly.

I did wonder if the actors were partly to blame for the chemistry (or entire lack of it) between Dany and Jon but then I remembered that Dany and Drogo and Jon and Ygritte were both done well. Again, I think it was just the writing. Jon being brought back from the dead in season 6 feels strange in hindsight considering Arya killed the NK and he didn't want the throne anyway. Other than killing Dany, he didn't really do a lot. It might have been a lot more impactful if he'd killed himself after killing Daenerys. He got off way too lightly and it didn't even feel he was that bothered by it in the end.

Bran being king is strange considering what he's become but I suppose the Starks were the central characters of the show and the very first viewpoint in the books is Bran's. The lack of a white walker explanation at the end or a lord of light reveal was disappointing. It feels unfinished.

On a positive note, the visuals, direction and soundtrack were just outstanding. The image of Dany and Drogon's wings behind her was just :drool: Also the Dothraki charge in episode 3, Drogon appearing out of the darkness in episode 5 to burn Varys, it was all just top quality.

Btw, I know it's not that important but what the feck happened to Dario?
 
Also, was that meant to be Howland Reed beside Sam?

That scene where Cersei and Jamie died in a crumbling room was a metaphor for the writing on the show crumbling and killing fans as soon as GRRM stopped writing.

The writers stopped caring about emotional reactions and interesting, deep dialogue. They didn't bother showing the Starks learning about Jon, Greyworm learning about Dany, etc. so why would they test their skill here? GRRM isn't propping them up so their ineptitude is public for everyone to see.

I've watched the show for 8 years and I have to say something nice so yeah, the bolded bit 1000%. Visually it was probably the most amazing season of tv I've ever seen.

He's still ruling Essos in Dany's name I think.

They could’ve gotten around this if they’d wanted to. Some bullshit exposition about him being revived by the Lord of Light awakening that in him or some other bullshit exposition about dragon fire being different from regular fire.
 
It feels like Daenerys went from wannabe Queen to crazy to dead far too fast, the last episode she completely smashed kings landing killing multiple main characters and thousands of people then about 15 minutes worth of screen time later she’s dead before she’s really established herself as a crazy bitch, it was really badly done.

They could have used a full episode showing her after the slaughter.

They replaced him with some Dutch dweeb who neutered the character so badly that they had to write him out of the show for everyone’s benefit.
 
Imagine if when Bran was like “I’ll go find him” the camera zooms into his whitened eyes, pans out and it’s the fecking Night King launching a spear to take out Drogon.

I’m only half joking here.
