WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

Didn't Lille pretty much walk off the pitch in a game with Man. United a few years back?

It was when Scholes took that quick free kick and scored from it, and they all saw their arses, then in the return fixture we got a free kick in a similar position and Scholes feigned another quick one and they all shat the bed

They need to stop showing VAR in the ground. I never under why they show replays in the ground in general

Well the idea is that it gives transparency. Everyone in the ground can see why the decision was made.

The show goes on for now. 1 more close decision like that and you can see the walk-off.

Why doesn’t the ref even pretend to check herself before overturning her initial calls? It would do a lot psychologically to calm the Cameroon’s players who now might just be feeling like unjust decisions are being taken “upstairs” by some obscure hands (aka FIFA).

The backpass was possibly a debatable decision (defender failed to control it rather than a deliberate pass to the goalie) Cameroon has got feck all else to mean about.

That’s how everyone in Cameroon feels about that penalty. Inasmuch as I don’t think it was a pass, I also believe that in the heat of the action, the ref could (edit: could NOT) have tried too hard to interpret the defenders intention (pass or control) so the free-kick call is understandable. But probably the players felt it differently.

It doesn’t have to be a pass, just a deliberate action rather than a miss kick. At the end of day it’s terrible goalkeeping because there was no pressure on her to clear the ball.

England so poor at the back, going to be exposed against better team I'm afraid.

I guess it’s all about the understanding of the implementation of VAR. I think the Cameroon players expected the ref to take a look herself before overturning her on-pitch call (as has been the case in most similar circumstances). I think they felt her awarding the goal, thereby overturning the initial call, without checking, like a bit of injustice.

I think the goal was rightfully given but I can understand the players’ emotions taking over a little bit there.

Nope. Control yourselves. The reaction is absolutely disgusting, there is zero injustice regardless as it was the correct decision.

Cameroon players just reacting like idiots.

England have shit the bed. Can't see them beating Norway if they play like this.

I like their passion. They clearly want it more. I only wish your lot showed a bit of fire like this in the CL final.

They just need to show "offside" or "foul" on the screen. In a ground you don't need replays replaying every VAR decision. It spoils the experience

That would be entertaining. Would be a bit of a disgrace though.

Well they have done all but up to this point so wouldn't change much except they would actually see some punishment from FIFA (other than the "corrupt" decisions from this game of course!:wenger: )

Rightfully or not, Cameroon has a history if (perceived) injustice at world cups so it’s kind of understandable that the players feel hugely aggrieved today. We feel that football authorities have always had it against us at international competitions and we have to fight against a million odds to win anything.
