Their approach with Cersei was always a bit bizarre in that respect - they consistently loved having her do awful things but then would simultaneously use her motherhood to try and redeem her. I mean, I get that it's a show with morally grey characters who can't be defined as good or evil, but there's points which go past redemption and if you have someone as evil as she often was then being a mother isn't enough to make her seem somewhat okay.
Watch first 4 season again and compare it to Joffery's.

Just watched Karl Tanner's death for the first time in ages, remember laughing out loud when I saw it the first time. It's just so ridiculously over the top, but pretty cool all the same:Yep. Stupid what they did to him/how his arc played out.
It wasn’t as surprising where he ends up. But more about how he got there.
Best death:
Red Wedding was amazingly done, but it was too devastating for me, so I'm not going to say that (even though dramatically it might be the best).
Death of Walder Frey and Frey House is awesome (probably because I thought the Red Wedding was so devastating).
Also, Olenna Tyrell scene where she dies is great, especially what she says to Jaime in her last moments.

Best death surely has to be Viserys Targaryen purely due to the ingenuity of death by gold? If nothing else GoT had some good deaths...
It looked really shitty though. When you poor molten gold on someone, they burn. Iirc, Viserys didn't so much as get his hair singed, just died.

So, I never had access to HBO until this summer... that means I just now watched Game of Thrones in its entirety over the course of the last month.

It was so bad that I've lost all enthusiasm for the series to the point that I won't rewatch it. I always go back to the shows I've loved and I've gone through Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, DBZ, Band of Brothers & The Pacific more than 4 times. I thought Game of Thrones would be added to that list but no. I will not bother investing any more time to be let down.
For an absolute litany of reasons, it was all over the place.
They tried to pack 20 episodes worth of content into 6 episodes which made it rushed to the point of unwatchable. They removed all the character development scenes and subplots to focus on getting from A to B in the timeframe.
There were 2 wars that needed ending. That happened. It was pretty straight forward.
They’d built up to season 8 throughout. Season 8 is when all the building up finally comes to a head and happens. Makes sense to me.
Dialogue was shit, characters became terrible, the story unwound horribly, it was beyond poor and verging on laughable.
It was the shiteness of season 7 on steroids and protein shakes.
Nah. Not seeing it.
It was like going from SAF in the first few seasons to full blown Moyes in season 8!
What did you like about it?
All of it.
Great epic battle scenes reminiscent of the Crusades or Greek mythology. Wrapped everything up nicely. Held true to the Targaryen “coin flip”. “Bad” folks got their just deserts.
I even liked who ends up on the throne. Been saying that character should be it since season 4/5.
By doing absolutely nothing and barely appearing for ages he should sit on the throne ?

@Carolina Red Interesting to hear you say that. There was a perceptible drop in quality for me from about season 6 or so when GoT passed the books (never read any of them, mind you). And the last season even moreso. Perhaps binging it the way you did might have contributed to your thinking.
I watched the last 3 seasons in about a 2 week period. It flowed fine to me.

There was indeed drop in quality and things were rushed but it wasn't as bad as most people overreacted.
It flowed like a river of shite on a hot and humid day.
Spending the rest of their lives in a gulag would be too merciful to d&d for the crimes the commited.
