LC W League Cup Third Round

Manchester United 1:1 Rochdale

Post-match discussion

Wed, 25 September 2019

Ole needs time to clear out the crap and bring his own players in - wont happen inone transfer window I am afraid. There is no quick fix and firing another manager would just set us back another year. Back the manager and be patient

I just worry that the change won’t happen fast enough, and that the current culture seeps into the new players and the cycle continues. Let’s hope I’m wrong

Wow, speechless! Jesus there are no words, have tried being positive but that is me done, absolutely woeful, bar James Greenwood Tuanzebe McTominay AWB (who was very poor last night) and Maguire the rest of them can do one, absolute hoop!

Poor performance, but if we were more clinical we could have still scored 3 or 4. Greenwood, Pogba, Lingard and Rojo all missed good chances.

Rojo is an abomination of a player. Just kept smashing the ball at goal or into the box with absolutely no intention or aim.

This might sound odd, but one of the biggest issues for me last night wasn't what was going on on the pitch. It was the matchgoing fans. Rather than trying to get the team going, they seemed to just be cycling through our repertoire of songs. Whenever we needed a goal in the old days we used to get behind the lads and gee them up. We don't seem to do that anymore and seem far too focused on having a good day out and getting over the latest song about X player.

Hold on, you are actually having a go at people who

1. Actually get of their ass to go to a game, pay good money etc.
2. Stand, sing and make the atmosphere half decent for once, not when the half and half, tourist fans with their cameras out and their megastore bags.
3. The reason the atmosphere was as good as it was last night is due to the work done by the supporters groups to get fans sat together where the away fans normally are for league games, they should be applauded not having some helmet like you having a pop at them.

Quite possibly the worst post on this forum, do us all a favour and don't ever go to OT, stick to here and Twitter being a "fan", absolutely clueless!

Oh and by the way for about 80% of the game all you could hear were songs about the young lads, Tuanzebe new song, Greenwood new song, McT plus songs about Mata, AWB, Maguire, and United classics United Roads, Kicking a Blue, Spirit in the Sky, Banks of Irwell, United Calypso etc.

So you mate, are talking absolute shit

Literally the worst post I've ever read on this forum.

You're saying that 2000 of us putting on one of the best atmospheres Old Trafford has seen in ages in a half empty stadium (while we were struggling to beat Rochdale ffs) was one of the problems? Unbelievable viewpoint

You're bang on mate... and we didn't stop singing for 90 minutes... carried right on even when they scored and if anything, just got louder. It was the only thing that made that match enjoyable for me being in there with all that actual support and positivity.

Imagine how much of a lift it would give you hearing the fans singing your name? Axel was talking in the week about how proud he felt and what a boost he gets from it... saying how the fans won't understand just how much it means to him.

Honestly mate the clown should be banned for this, absolute melt fans like this make my blood boil.

One of my mates was in that lot last night said it was unbelievable, same as Europa game last week I was at it was bouncing.

Makes my blood boil mate it really does, my mate was in with you lot last night he was bouncing, his missus was stunned haha

Yeah was at the Europa league game last week and it was the same, give me Rochdale at home over Liverpool at home sat next to some bloke with his iPad out drinking egg nog while not even watching the game, any day of the week.

What a wonderful performance, so glad I went. Fred what a bargain at £52M and that wonderful team player Pogba who has the ball stick to his foot like Zidane. All good.

p.s. I may be mad.

Fed up watching United.

More boring than Van Gaal or Mourinho.

We are so weak, heartless.

We would still need 5 new players to be contenders to top4

Soul-destroying to watch. A club of our size should be able to put out a completely second string 11 with nobody like Pogba near the pitch and comfortably beat Rochdale at home. Rochdale are 17th in League One and lost 6-0 two weeks ago. They looked like the better coached team for long periods.

I honestly dont know what I'm supposed to be watching anymore. It isn't football, I know that much. We will get hammered in the next round.

It was great last night. Probably even better than it was at the Astana game because we were Stretford Paddock end so were able to bounce off the Stretty tier 2 a couple of times which sounded brilliant.

How the hell can it be seen as a negative to be singing the names of players like Tuanzebe, Greenwood, James, Chong etc while they're battling for us? How can that not be a lift to the players? We oversang them celebrating their fecking goal even. That guy, unbelievable

That's a bit unfair. The fans gave it their all and got behind the team. Singing all the time.

Honestly our squad is good enough to get top 4, we'd need 5 new players to have a squad good enough to challenge the top 2. The squad lacks firepower for sure but I believe that's just because our style of play doesn't create enough space or opportunities for attacking players to thrive.

I would agree about needing 5 more top players, but how long will it take us to bring them in. If we really mean business, we need a top midfielder and a forward brought here in January with 3 more top players in the Summer.

The point of my comment was that whilst you might have been having a good time, it's not energizing or pushing on the team. If there's no impetus in the stands and we're just cycling through the songbook, then that translates to the pitch. Gee the team up and they'll play at a higher tempo.

I've been to plenty of games at home and away and been a part of crowds where you can literally feel like you are at one with the team and the balls gets sucked in to the net all by simply urging them on and giving them the belief we can win the game. Review some of Fergie's games where we needed a goal and crowds in the same and compare them to last night. You'll see the difference.

Call me a melt or a clown (which there was absolutely no need for) as much as you want. All fans are entitled to their opinions. Just because it doesn't match your own "top red" viewpoint, it doesn't make me any less of a fan than you are.

Yeah we need to play an absolute blinder in the upcoming windows. Last summer was promising but it wasn't enough. I reckon a midfielder and a right winger will make our squad good enough to be a team that can consistently make the top 4, like Spurs have been in the last few seasons. Another 3 signings in important positions after that could bring us up a notch further and challenge the top 2.

Problem is that I don't think it's just players we need, it's an effective system for those players to play in. I was expecting something like Lampard's Chelsea when Ole came in. We'd play exciting football that shows a lot of promise but with clear weaknesses that can be sorted out with transfers. Instead we're just a boring pile of dullness with apparent weaknesses all over the place, it's hard to gauge what kind of player we need exactly to sort us out.

This is by far the worse football we've played since Sir Alex left. This is harder to watch then that snowy game against stoke where I barely saw the ball.

I was doing something while watching the game, but while I am sure we will be strongly criticised for not winning 5-0, it looked to me like their keeper had a worldie and we created several chances.

Agree, but we have to trust whoever is in charge of bringing the players in to do this. I am happy with the 3 summer signings but we should have replaced Herrera and Lukaku also. If we were to stay close to the pack and do this in January with 2 top players, then we may have a chance of top 4. Another 3 players in the summer would set us up to challenge next season. Dreaming??

Rojo seems to play with his emotions rather than his head. Yes it is good to be enthusiastic but he lacks the necessary discipline and is un-professional.
Not remotely good enough for United.

Yeah, odd as feck

Poor performance again and boring to watch. I still don't blame the Manager. Some of those players are stealing a living. They should all donate their weeks wages to those Rochdale players who are probably all on an average industrial wage and still tried harder than Our so called megastars.

I'm arguing that they play as a team and our team tonight were a bunch of individuals that have not played as a unit for any length of time to build up some team understanding, it was a disjointed mix of massively inexperienced players and overpaid, bang average senior players and one who doesn't want to be here.

I agree with this.

In many ways this was worse than the 4-0 drubbing by a progressive MKDons in 2014.

The reason I say this is that that 2014 team picked by LVG I believe was an experimental one, he made 10 changes from the previous game consisting of only 1 regular first teamer (DDG) a bunch of youth team players, and a number of out of favour first teamers.

Most of the out of favour players knew the writing was on the wall on their Utd careers and didn’t put the effort in as they should.

LVG said after the match he saw some “good” things from the game.Namely he knew who he was going to get rid of.

After that defeat players who played in that match (and Subs) such as Welbeck, Kagawa, Anderson, Hernandez & Zaha were sold or loaned out before the end of that transfer window. Others such as Evans, Wilson & McNair left a little later.

So in a strange way you could see such an away result taking place in 2014.

What’s the excuse for the team last night that is the question.

Sorry but what are you even saying? That the fans weren't singing loud enough to "gee up" the team and were too busy trying to have a good time? The fact they were singing at all - even after the fourth Hanson brother scored an equaliser for a team like Rochdale - is absolutely outstanding. Behave yourself.

Top red, mate, top red.

Don't start with all this top red bullshit, the point is your post was completely incorrect as it wasn't just going through our "songbook" in the slightest, as two of the lads who were at the game have mentioned.

If you have been to home and away games just makes the post even more embarrassing, don't wanna be called a melt or a helmet then don't tear into fans making a class atmosphere.

Oh come on. We had just 3 kids playing at first team, 1 of which is rated as the second coming of the Christ while tuanzebe had been on loan for quite some time

The rest were internationals. AWB, Jones, Andreas, Romero, Fred, Pogba, Jesse. Petersbrough defeated these lot 6-0. Surely we should have won comfortably against these lot at home

Ole is being outsmarted week after week. He should resign

AWB hasn't played a senior international to my knowledge and I don't think Pereira has either, but that's by the by, Emile Heskey got 60+ caps and he was crap. As for Greenwood being the second coming, in the eyes of some sure, to me he's a very talented 17 year old but you can't discount the fact he's only 17, and Axel has only played second tier football, and both Greenwood and Axel were good anyway.

Look, you know I'm not a sentimentalist with football mate, I already said I never would have given Ole the job as I would have waited until the end of the season and as we saw in that last 15 games he's looking out of his depth.

To me right now we are miles off having a squad that can do anything and I don't trust the board of the club to get the players we need nor am I convinced a lot of them would even want to come at this point given how the vibe is surrounding the club.

So I think we need to stay the course for this season, keep playing the young players and see if we can get them to gel, if not then get rid of Ole at the end of the season, as I don't see us finishing higher than 6th no matter who is manager.

And there was me thinking the "our squad is shit" arguement would be dead after drawing to fecking Rochdale.

Why?

Careful mate you might get called a "Top Red" for thinking the atmosphere was decent, haha this bloke fml

The best thing with winning cup matches, is that it is a platform for youngsters and reserve players to step up and get some game time.

It`s not as i see it .. wow, we suck we can`t even beat Rochdale sitting deep (it is alarming, yes, but it is not all of the point)

If not and i should follow Caf logic, it would be the same to say that Spurs are no better than Colchester, and West Ham no better than Oxford .. and they lost, the latter 4-0

Well, no comment, same with United vs Rochdale. it means a dropping in intensity for some of the regulars and a possibility for a step up for others. United is not a balanced team, and it gets even more unbalanced at those matches.

As long as the youngsters and reserves gets game time that is probably what this year will be mostly about (dont use the Mata and Matic argument on me, as they will drop more and more off when youngsters or newbies can replace them more permanent)

Will see more of the likes of Williams this season, and that`s the point

Been impressed with the singing to be fair. Usually it's a lot quieter and small pockets singing in these cup games but we've actually got a larger group now making an effort throughout the game and other grounds are quieter in comparison.

We nearly went out to a pub side, seriously? Football probably isn't even their main income. It's either laugh or cry right now and I'm choosing to >. Their lesbian looking fullback who scored the equaliser was having a right laugh down our left side. What a JOKE!
