Could we get relegated? | United officially now safe from relegation for 2019/20 season

No you won't, and not because you're United, one has to be truly horrible week in week out to get relegated, and although you're horrible now, I don't think you can pull it off for the whole season.

Of course it will hurt. I remember the last time and that hurt too. The problem is after 6 years of running the club into the ground it seems literally nothing will get done unless the club literally implodes
If it continues like this the Glazer's will sell if someone makes a good offer. There's literally no reason wanting us to get relegated. I understand what you mean but relegation would be the absolute worst scenario.

We can always sack Ole for that new manager bounce to save us from the bottom.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t WANT it. I’m saying it just seems like the only thing that might get the board etc to pull its finger out it’s arse!

The only thing I would say is United have, when all fit, a decent back 4. Relegation candidates are often teams that leak goals and have the shitiest defences. But because the midfield is well short and the attack is also floundering they'll not finish any higher than 10th.

You’re making it seem as if we would just piss the Championship away.
The Championship ain’t no joke mate, literally every team would be out to do us, 46 matches, excluding playoff and Cup matches, with this core of players? Forget it, we’ll do well to make it to the playoffs if that happens.
It’d bring some excitement back though.

Don’t think we will get relegated. But which 3 teams are substantially worse than us? If we keep playing like this, we will not be comfortably mid-table.

Getting beat by Newcastle and being unable to score goals makes that possibility very likely. Many more games without scoring or losing against teams around us will only increase the possibility.

We've been shite but we've also been missing AWB, Pogba and Martial. I don't think we're getting relegated if those three are fit. Not saying they're gonna transform the team but we're not gonna be 18th or lower.

Did this earlier. Nobody could name three sides they'd be confident of us beating home and away. We are absolutely woeful.

Honestly, I find the notion that Man Utd could be relegated ridiculous

I remember 1974 and I really don’t see the parallels

Back then you had ageing players resting on their laurels but no longer good enough to compete with a rapidly changing game

Now, I think your squad is too thin in terms of quality which should be easily remedied

Of course the only thing reminiscent of 1974 was the preceding 3 managers who failed - not that I’d blame then - Wilf McGuinness, Frank O Farrell and a reprise by Sir Matt

Tommy Docherty (ex Arsenal player btw) gained success by promoting youth

You should give Ole a chance - he is trying to do the same

I think your misrepresenting the state of the club. Since Solskjaer came in his success (opening games) came at the height of the present circumstances, Mourinho was such a virus that even the most mute of characters would have given that team a lift. Solskjaer caught everything at the right time, he was the perfect picture for the size of the frame which was left by Jose however as soon as the honeymoon period was over, normalcy settled in he was unable to turn poor performances around.

I don't care what people say about Klopp, Poch or even Sir Alex during his infancy, one aspect that has been displayed is the ability to motivate and cultivate players to turn it around. It doesn't matter if we spend 400 million Solskjaer throughout his 10 year career has been unable to turn around bad performances.

The reason why fans feel it will get worse is because Solskjaer is not a progressive manager he's actually the opposite and a stagnant individual in management. The club shouldn't necessarily get rid of Ole because of the results right now, the club should get rid because he doesn't offer us anything long term.

We are a relegation level team because this is the level of the manager. Yes the players aren't the best but what world class team have we played this season ? How many losses have come from clubs who have an inferior starting 11 to our own. Managers like Solskjaer will never work out in life because if we are dependent for everything to fall in place perfectly it's not going to happen.

Ole needs to make better use of these players, he's not utilised what he's working with effectively at all. The midfield is struggling due to his tactical methodology of playing a double pivot when (Pogba, Matic, Scott) excelled under a midfield 3. The attacking players played better under a more negative defensive minded Jose, the defence hasn't improved significantly to warrant the amount spent (130 million) we get carved through against any decent team in possession this is a structural and positional issue which needs to be coached. Absolutely garbage coaching, McKenna and Carrick deserve much criticism.

Nah, not really, but we could finish the season in 10th place or something.

The answer is 'Yes' if the board keep sacking the manager after less than a year. You can't ever build anything that way.

The club set up is bad, the manager is bad and the squad is even worse. Could we go down? Absolutely we could! The poster before saying that our entitled attitude is dangerous because we can't see what's creeping up on us, is spot on.

Newcastle are a better side than us. If they are in a relegation scrap then we 100% are.

I honestly believe the only thing that has kept us in 7th / 8th position recently has been our reputation and the remains of a fear factor around the name "Manchester Utd" and coming to Old Trafford has been intimidating for other teams. That has gone! We are no more scary then Southampton or Palace now.

We need to accept that we are in full blow crisis, be proactive. Replace the manager and staff. Knuckle down for a long hard season and then properly invest in the summer.... Ship out the remaining deadwood and honestly spend 500 million or more on smart signings to fill gaping holes. LB option, RW, at least two CM's, Striker and a number 10 as an absolute minimum. That is how far away we are.

No, I really don't think so. Wasn't there a situation with Dortmund a few years back where they started the first few months of the season in the relegation zone? I think they finished mid table in the end. Can see something similar with us (also Chelsea a few years back).

I dont know about that. If you add up the games from the back end of last season and now these games. Thats almost half a season worth of games of relegation form. Not hard to extrapolate that a little further and make it a season worth of games. Another Pogba injury and i wouldn't be surprised.

Defence is too good to go down, other than that we're not far off.

The trouble is Matt23 is we had a solid reliable defence in 1973/74 when we were last relegated and didn't ship too many goals, but back then we couldn't score for love or money, and in the end that was our downfall.
There are spooky parallels with the team we have now. Solid defensively but clueless up front.

No, it won't happen, but our long-term form is awful. We've gotten 11 points from our last 13 games, which is solidly relegation, and we've gotten 17 from our last 17. While that's technically better, in that we've averaged a point a game, it somehow feels worse due to the extra four games...we've almost produced a half-season's worth of relegation form.

And that's been a period in which we've not played Liverpool once, and played City at home...barring two away games against Arsenal our fixtures have been more generous in that 18-game period than your average half-season.

But I think we'll stabilise a bit over the season. Not enough to have anything resembling a successful year, mind, but probably enough to have a similar year to Chelsea in 15-16, if not slightly better.

Slim chance. Probanly 5 percent chance of it happening.

My bet we'll be 12th or thereabout.

But... 5 percent means 1 in 20. We can really end up in relegation if somethings went against us.

We got Woodward in charge, add another 5%

We'll finish 3rd, or at worst 4th, so stop yer flapping

There is still 30 games to play, mathematically speaking we could still get 90 points and end up with 98 points, why not saying we will finish 1st or 2nd instead?

if our best players are pogba rashford and martial, so yes we can

Two differences between 73/4 and this season are that 1, the squad then was ageing players past their best who were resting on their laurels whereas now there's not enough quality and 2, Tommy Docherty was a better manager than Ole is.

Another issue is the use of the kids and likening them to the class of 92. That group of players were better than the current crop and, in addition, they had much better senior players surrounding them, such as Eric, Keane, Gary Pallister and so on.

I don't think so, we need a series of events to occur against us near enough all season. That would be that firstly we keep Ole for most of the season, our injury crisis continues throughout most of the season, we sign no one in January (or at worse we lose players).

Not say we've been unlucky but we have missed to huge chances in games that would have likely improved the result (Pogba penalty vs Wolves and Maguire header vs Newcastle etc.).

Again we are not inspiring to watch at all but I would say aside from AZ Alkmaar away we haven't been completely dominated by a team. A lot of poor performances but not many I felt like we were getting batter or got away with it massively.

They were lucky against Leicester, a soft penalty, and Leicester had an off day. The 4-0 against Chelsea was a freak result.

Apologies if I missed anybody, but I take it that none of you agree.

Let's just see where we are the come the end of the season. To be revisited.
I wish I shared your optimism and I'll be delighted if you're right, but I think a relegation battle is more likely than top 4.

I hope we do. The Glazer's need a reason to go.

In the unlikely scenario Ole was kept in the job then there would be a very real chance of relegation.

I remember the last time we went down, and we are worse right now. much worse

I tend to agree but...........

"No, it won't happen" - that is what everyone said in 1974. This was a team that was too good to go down and had won the league 7 seasons earlier. Similar in that we were struggling after Sir Matt Busby.........

We certainly have a worse manager that is for sure. Tommy Doherty was good, & would have been there longer if he hadn't been shagging the physio's wife Mary Brown. Far better manager than the present one.
