Premier League Gameweek 3

In fairness, Liverpool are going to win 32 or so games again this season, and will barely drop a point at home. So you can't expect a "project" still in the making like Arsenal to do much
They've done amazingly to steal a win.

Talk of how Liverpool have to drop off again premature. They'll have comfortably seen of Chelsea and Arsenal in the first 3!
You cut out their fullbacks and they have zero creativity. Press the fullbacks.

The problem is teams don't have faith going into the games.

What did you do?
Well, I had a 7 day ban for calling Boris Johnson a cnut, then today got permabanned for using that word in a conversation with a friend. I assume somebody went trawling to find something to complain about.

I think you guys are being a bit harsh on Arsenal. If you loo at our squad man for man, we are no where near on the same level as Liverpool. They seem determined today to make a statement. I'm hoping their exaggerated pressing will slow down in the second half and we'll be able to grind something.

Arteta's just plays defensive counter attacking football. People take the piss out of OGS when he didn't have Bruno and Pogba.

Attacking full backs. Who needs them, eh?

It's the managers formation that allows them to play attacking a 235 formation with fullbacks upfront for Liverpool. In comparison Pep plays the exact same 235 with the fullbacks not in attacking positions at all and the width coming from the wingers only.

the table doesn't lie last season. Liverpool is the champion and we are 8th.

You can press them, but they'll find the ball. Liverpool do a lot of driven long balls to by pass a press and do a really great job of winning 2nd balls and 3rd balls.

Huh? Mendy was their width on the left yesterday. He was right up with the forward line.

So strange with everything that’s going on that, once again, the full Liverpool side is available and fully fit.

It really makes me wonder if the only thing that really separates Klopp from the rest is whatever fitness regime has has going at clubs.

A lot of Dortmund players dropped like stones when he left. I wonder if the same thing will happen at Pool.

I think most sensible people can see the reality.

This forum is filled with people who seemingly watch football all the time and yet still have the most surreal opinions about the game.

I don't support any club and have no vested interest in any of them. Even so, I would say that Liverpool have induced the most spontaneous spunking among commentators over the past few years. It's hard to listen to.
Wouldn’t mind if they said Liverpool are playing great but Aresenal aren’t half playing into their hands with the way they’re playing out from the back!

They always did. Barry Davies would frequently gratify himself throughout the 80s when waxing lyrical about the dippers.

It's early days yet, but with City's fall off/failure to replace aging players and Liverpool's inhalers, it looks like they'll have more titles* than us soon. We've been shite for years with an embarrassing scatter-gun approach. Anything to cheer us up? :(

With all the adulation Arsenal have gotten this season I expected them to be a lot better than this. Why is Arteta being spoken of as some great manager? They have done nothing going forward and have even been shite enough defensively.

It's baffling. They did well in some cup games but apart from that it's solidly mid-table performances but hey apparently they look like they know what they're doing

Yes. If you try to press too many players.

Get the wingers to sit on their full backs and you'll cut down the opportunities.

Teams have kept them quiet on occasions and Liverpool had no other answer. Obviously they are a good side and its not going to stop them winning games, but just not as many.

Arsenal's midfield just can't cope against teams that can counter well and press hard.

Arsenal only have 2 central mids and it shows. But that's how they try to maintain a defensive shape. Their wingbacks are the outlet, then play the ball inside to allow for space on the backside then play it back to a fullback or just play the ball into space and hope your guy can get to the ball and one time pass into space then release someone into space going forward.

A couple of seasons ago we said the same about City.
Yet Pep and gang are still there and they don't look the pressing energetic team they did then

Maybe their "cycle" has worn off.

But who is talking up Arsenal? Is this some London centric thing that we don't get up here?

Chelsea, sure, they have been hyped given the signings they've made. Arsenal, on the other hand, will be VERY lucky to get top 4 according to most people.

I don't even mean it in a disrespectful way. This is the first time I've seen them this year but have heard lots of raving about them (like how they'll finish ahead Chelsea and us) and assumed that they had gone up a level. Liverpool are obviously going to be the better side but they can barely get out of their own half here.

Twitter loves a good ban. If anything you've said could be construed negatively, even using the most obscure, non-obvious double entendre of a reading, anyone who wants to take "offence" to it can get you banned. Or lie about the "offence" and get you banned anyway. Horrible platform with nothing approximating free speech or even speech with fair limits. (Though I find it instructive to observe who can publicly post threats and the like on there and get away with it.)

i think the plan to get back to top 6, top 4 will be over achievement already.

Edit
I would be over the moon if we can get 1 point playing away at liverpool. the key for this season is to get points from the teams outside of top 6. We don't have the players to switch back to 433 or 4231 yet which is obviously the formation Arteta prefers.

It's difficult to sustain it over the course of 90 minutes, but its possible for sure as it's been done. They have good delivery from all over the park too. Those long balls over the top just pull a lot of players out of position and then you're out of position and have to defend differently.

We need more mobile midfielders and attackers with a better workrate if we are going to challenge for the top four.

The end period of the transfer window will most likely decide our season.

They've been talked up as contenders and being a better bet for top 4 than us all over this forum.

I completely agree, which is why it's absurd to write off Arteta so early.
