1) I didn't make it an entire question about Cavani, it was merely referencing you picking and choosing a timescale that suits your argument.

You think Pogba has been the most consistent over the past 12 months, yet he hasn't. He's had quite a few amazing games, I totally agree, but to say he has been "consistent" is well off the mark, and it is what some posters have been alluding to here.

2) the poster you are referring to @Eli Zee never named any players in particular, you just made that comparison for yourself.

I take your point but I would also say that it looks as though this is increasingly the way that the game is going. Players will run their contracts down more and more for a huge payday. We're seeing it with Mbappe and Haaland and it'll become more and more the norm. Clubs need to start looking at transfer fees and wages as loaning that player for the number of years agreed, and thinking less about sell on value etc.

The poster replied to my post which was specifically in response to a direct comparison. It’s not hard to understand.

It was meant to be shite. The irony is lost on you. Me portraying Pogba as a loyal genius is the other side of the coin really to someone suggesting he plays well roughly once a year and players such as McFred offer more consistent performance.

Fred has been more consistent than Pogba, by some distance actually, simply by the virtue that he’s nearly always been available to play and always gives it everything. Pogba comes in plays really well, plays ok or bad, gets injured and the cycle starts again. That’s the opposite of consistency. I’m not saying Fred is a better player than Pogba. Not even close but one is clearly more reliable and consistent than the other. Pogba can be a match winner and a game changer. Fred is a grafter. Squads need both. The point is high earners who don’t play enough are going to be scrutinised but even our low earner squad players get held to unrealistic standards. Our fans are bonkers.
 
The girlfriend analogy for me would be more like really hot girl who everyone fancies. Seems like it could have been love but just when things start to get interesting or you hit tough times she disappears and then comes back again and the cycle continues. She flirts with other hot guys in front of you all the time but you ignore it because you want it to work. you know you’re fighting a losing battle but you hold on just in case.

Fred then is reliable, not as hot but is always there for you supporting your dreams and shit :lol: Determined and there for you when the chips are down.

Hotness without personality or good intentions, like technical ability without work rate, will only get you so far.

Paul Pogba has spent 2 full seasons of games sidelined with injury in the 5 he has been here. He is entering a age where injuries will become more common due to natural wear and tear.

Do you pay record wages for that?

If no: Then he cant be re-signed.
If yes: I`d like to see you in my office.

:lol: :lol: If you’re talking about consistently mediocre. The only thing that ever shocks anyone with Fred is when he has a great game. He’s been more available and you prefer his style of play. Pogba has regularly played better.

Consistently mediocre maybe. Being a body on the field that’s always there isn’t that precious if you’re churning out bang average performances at best.

I’ll give you another one…..no point being in a relationship where the person who suppose to love and want the best for you, but yet spends all the time talking about leaving you. She/he blames you all the time yet does feck all (more often than not) to make it work. You beg him/her to stay, she doesn’t give you a straight answer whilst all the time she’s/he’s on Tinder lining up who she/he are going to feck next, given she/he knows they are leaving you which ever way

In the main, when Pogba has been fit, he's excellent. He's had injuries, his agent is a tool and the media love having a dig at him...... I honestly think he's class when on the pitch though and we should definitely try to keep him.

I think the only actual personal issue he's had was with Jose but he wasn't the only one.

No point boasting you own a fecking Lambo if it spends most of the time on your drive cause it won’t start.….when it starts, you never know whether you’ll get to the end of the street before it breaks again or to where you want to go. Cause you can’t trust it, you just get a Uber…..Fred is the Uber.
 
Pogba has gone out and said that he wants to leave. He's playing well now to get the best possible deal at the end of this season.

It’s not far off to anyone who doesn’t understand the nature of an analogy. To anyone who does it’s frankly absurd. An analogy would be used to make sense of something by making it comparable to something perhaps more understandable.

You compared Pogba to somebody who only performs what is desired once a year. He’s just played 4 good games in three weeks and has been very good many many times in the last year.

I’ve not bothered reading your further analogies I get the gist from your first.

There isn’t any specific way to use them but given their nature and content, it’s doesn’t literally mean Pogs turns up once a year, just he might as well do given how infrequent it often is. The inconsistency in his game isn’t always down to him solely but it’s hard to suggest that his nearly 6 year tenure has been a success. That aside he’s missed 81 plus games, 2 season and counting of football due to injury. Again not his fault but again contributes to why he’s not been impactful.

The saying is the best players are always the ones that are available to play. Pogs might be better than Fred but not if he’s sat in the stands for 80 plus games!!!

Has he actually stated, openly, that he wishes to leave the club or did his agent subtly hint that his player is considering all options available to him at this time, perhaps to put the wind up the United hierarchy, persuading them to increase their offer?

Because we will never replace him and we'll be left with a hole to fill, just like after losing Scholes, Carrick, Ander, etc .

I think most are just happy to finally be seeing the back of him and his agent. He won't be missed in the slightest. Anger gave way to apathy many years ago when it comes to Pogba (a few vitriolic nutters aside, of course).

Think quite a lot of fans are conscious of this clubs recent history and chronic inability to properly replace players.

Not everyone is excited about possibly losing some of the rare quality in an already struggling squad.

I'm not excited about the prospect of losing him. But at the same time I do think it could make things easier for the next manager (whoever it turns out to be).

Replacing Pogba - that is, replacing what he brings to the team on the whole, not ideally but realistically - may be easier than getting the best out of him on a consistent basis.

It's not a case of being 'excited' - it's simply a recognition that he has never and will never be right for us and his fat slug of an agent slagging us off at regular intervals has become rather tiresome. What's the alternative? £400kpw for an injury-prone 29 year old who doesn't really want to be here?

Your point about United's poor recruitment is well taken (indeed, Pogba is a further example of it), but I'm at least vaguely optimistic that we might see some positive changes in that area with Rangnick, Murtough and, hopefully, a progressive coach like Ten Hag calling the shots in future.

'Win-win' in the sense that he has to play well to get a decent move and if he succeeds then we'll have had some good performances from him and he'll end up at a good club. In the current circumstances, that would seem like the best possible scenario for all concerned.

What I meant was that it would be an absolute disgrace and a slap in the face of all that is United, if Pogba and any player that employs his agent are ever part of United again.
 
Like many my big worry is we won't bother replacing him with a De Jong, Haidara or Neves just blow it all on Rice instead

Haidara is barely regular for Leipzig and suddenly he is good enough to start for United, he should not be even in conversation let alone bring touted as replacement for Pogba.

What we want from Pogba won’t simply be replicated when he leaves with a single replacement.

We’ve needed [a] midfield[ers] from Fellaini & Herrera leaving, my biggest worry is the exhalation of Pogba leaving will be met with a solitary midfielder coming in & still seeing heavy doses of midfields containing McFred. Maybe Mejbri gets promoted internally & that helps.

Thats upto scouts and management but if we targetting average players like Haidara then we would be soon back in the market for midfielders .

Ideally I would like United to bring Brozovic from Inter and Matheus Nunes from Sporting next season and start giving Mejbri some game time immediately to see whether he can be relied upon as backup for next season.

If we only bring single Midfielder despite Pogba leaving then our next season is doomed for failure Unless as you said Mejbri steps up big time or Van De Beek proves naysayers wrong and salvages his United career, But another season of Fred or Mctominay starting regularly would be self inflicted wound which United would be well advised to avoid .

I meant to say midfields containing McFred, we need less of that. In fact I’d say we need none of that.

As you say, 1 midfield signing isn’t enough.
 
I know this will be unpopular with many, and yes there is the huge issue of inconsistency, but in my opinion Pogba will take some serious replacing if he were to go. Watching the Leeds game now, and yes we are only 40 mins in, but he’s head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch in my opinion.
