Lights on for Luke
It’s interesting for sure. Poch was a first choice or mine around the time Jose was about to get fired but we bottled it. His Spurs stint was a great achievement, imo.He got the perennial bottlers Spurs that elusive top 4 finish on 3 occasions (?). And a CL final. Anybody that thinks they could or should have done better than that are kidding themselves. They've never come close before or after. It inevitably fell apart as it does for most managers eventually, but he did a really good job at Spurs and the fans I know all want him back and never wanted him sacked. Levy is just a deluded idiot.
He’s nowhere near as “bad” as he’s made to sound here sometimes, but his PSG stint has definitely put me off him a bit. A dysfunctional team, only bailed out by top class performances etc. Obviously PSG is a difficult environment for many managers and I wouldn’t be too displeased if we went for Poch but my word, I’m excited about ETH.
Yeah he’s not PL proven or big club proven (neither is Poch because I see his PSG stint as a fail) but he is UCL proven and has a winners mentality, on top of having his team play some scintillating attacking football.
It would be the first time in a while we’ve taken the “risk” of approaching someone fresh like ETH, as opposed to the “safe” choices and I’m excited for it. I really do hope we give ETH a shot. It might not work out for him, who knows. But at least the club would have showed that they’re keen on heading into a certain direction in footballing terms
