Westminster Politics

She can refuse saying he hasn’t got the confidence of Parliament or something similar according to what I’ve read today.

The Tories just repealed the Fixed Term Parliaments Act meaning the PM has sole power to call an election.

It is a constitutional convention that Boris should resign if he loses the Vote of No Confidence, like Thatcher did, staying in post until a new leader is chosen. But that is a mere convention and not legally binding, plus he has shown he doesn't care about ignoring those.

There is nothing in the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 which empowers the Queen to say no to a request. In fact, the 2022 Act explicitly states that the courts cannot involve themselves in adjudicating a question of dissolution. If Johnson wants to call an election, there is nothing to stop him from doing so. I don't recall a monarch every refusing a request to dissolve Parliament.

Actually thatcher didn't loose a vote of no confidence... there was leadership challenge

At the time she had to get over 50% and have 15% more than the challenger (heseltine )

She passed the first hurdle but not the second so she stood down and we ended up with major

One of the main reasons I want Boris to be voted out is so I can see Nadine have a mental breakdown.

I envision the scene from titanic with Nadine saying "paint me like one of your baby mommas".
It's going to be beautiful, tears, snot, hysterical accusations against All and sundry........

Appreciate the correction.

Although perhaps it does further show that even doing well in these contests are a death knell for the Ministry?

Macron said they should not humiliate Putin so as to leave open the path to a diplomatic resolution. One may agree or not agree with that. Doesn't make him a bad politician.
My personal opinion is that Putin will not stop until he's achieved what he wants to achieve or he is taken out.

There was that, as well as the fact that just before the actual invasion, when the US and UK intelligence was telling them that an invasion was imminent, Macron was telling people it was not likely.
But anyway. This is not about Macron and I should not have mentioned it in this thread.

Proof Tory MPs hate democracy.

Expectation management that, look how on message it is with the coalition nonsense. They know even if they win they need to come out of it well so spin has already begun.

It's why they were talking about winning by one vote being enough.

Be like ETH saying his aim for next season was to avoid going down.

I'll guess 140 odd for no confidence.
