Westminster Politics

Well it's been confirmed they tried to appoint a new Welsh minister and the guy turned it down, so they're already struggling to fill the vacant roles.

This is mental, Johnson is tearing the Tory party to pieces.

Oof even total kissarse and brown noser Chris Philip has resigned.

Why haven’t Labour called for a no-confidence Vote in parliament? Best case they get a GE - worst case they get it on record which Tory MPs still supported this government which has totally collapsed and can’t actually fill cabinet posts putting power before country.

So if he refuses to quit, more of his MPs leave and we have a load of by elections.

Lets say, all these are won by labour and all of a sudden Labour have the majority seats, then what?

(I know it's unlikely, just curious)

No there won't be by-elections, the ministers have only resigned from their ministerial positions not being MPs. There just isn't a functioning Government at the moment.

I'm not sure it necessarily leads to a GE. The Conservative Party can appoint a new leader who can propose a new Government. At the moment Labour don't need to do anything as Boris doing this is causing more damage and the Tories want the same thing as them which is to remove him.

Where does it actually end if not a general election if he refuses to resign? He cannot deliver on his supposed 'mandate' without a government. I suppose the more likely option is the 1922 changes its rules, but looks like the government will be absolutely dismantled before that happens.

There’s no chance they all rally behind a new leader without a leadership contest. Party is completely divided with no obvious candidate. Labour want a GE - if the 1922 committee oust Boris the new leader won’t be calling one in my opinion.

Fine by me.

That's Suella Braverman on radio 4, promising to take on "Cancel culture and woke rubbish that is going on in our schools"

Yeah I meant after their usual leadership contest. I posted the other day about the opposition calling a no confidence vote and if it leads to a GE they should go for it.

Even with a VONC they'd appoint a temporary leader until the contest ran it's course. All that is required to avoid a general election is a government can be formed that has majority backing.

There's really no point Labour getting in the middle of this.

A leadership contest takes weeks/months doesn’t it? If a VONC was called and collapsed the Govt how long does someone have to present to the Queen that they can form a government before a GE is held?

I don't understand what the 1922 Committee have scheduled for Monday. It is essentially a vote to see who should be on the committee?

Why didn't they just change the rules which they had the power to do? They're just letting the party crumble. Makes no sense.

Not sure myself, I think they are hoping he will just resign and they don't have to change the rules.

It is elections for who sits on the Committee. No idea why they are waiting until Monday though.

Aren't they appointing a new chain ononday and then they will decide whether to go about changing the rules. Think I read that somewhere.

It’s all just a game to those twats. Boris will go but he’ll just be replaced by another Tory cnut.

so the new Chancellor of only 2 days appointed by Boris, has told him to go.
Is this the straw that broke the camels back, Boris cant stay on now , can he ?
I'm amazed he's gone this far to be honest. Any hopes I had for a general election have just died though.

He went beyond that point a long time ago

Resignation must be imminent, he's given these charlatans who accepted jobs less than 48 hours ago a chance to try and save their careers before he goes...

14 days to form a government but that doesn't need to be headed by a permanent leader so could just be a temp position held by a senior MP like May.

Shortest chancellor spell ever?

If I hear 'Got Brexit Done' one more time, I may scream.

There has to be a point they realise that line is not something to be proud of, more something to be ashamed of. I know a decent portion of the population still lap it up, but the number is dwindling.
