Mauricio Amadaeus Pochettino | Chelsea sack watch

It seems absolutely mental to say it, but for a club that just spent over 600m in a single season, they need to sign a few players to make this squad serviceable.

Their midfield is shite. Kante is half the player he was, and the other half is injured. Enzo has been good but not nearly as great as suggested. RLC just isn’t top level. Kovacic looks like he needs to leave for a new challenge. Mount has had a terrible season and will probably leave and do well elsewhere. So who do they actually have to start in midfield next year, reliably? Enzo? Gallagher should leave, he hasn’t fit there at all. Maybe under Poch he’ll play the Delle Allí role? Zakaria is on loan I believe and will go back, and Chukuwumeka is just, sort of, there…..

For all the money spent on the defence, it’s still pretty shite. James is always injured, azpi is over the hill. Chilwell is good, but 65m Cucu is pretty poor. KK has been horrible and at his age I doubt he will get better. Silva is their best defender and he’s nearly 40. Badiashile is too soon to tell, could be great eventually. Fofana doesn’t look the same player after all his injuries. Is mainly potential. Not a group that inspires confidence.

Forwards are a hot mess. There are so many of them. Mudryk cost a fortune but looks so, so raw. Think it was too early for him to move to a top club. Fofana should probably go out on loan. Sterling has declined a lot and is on massive wages. Felix won’t come back. Obama’sWang is finished as a top level footballer. More massive wages. Pulisic is, and has always been, shite. Ziyech surplus to requirements. Never top level. Broja is coming back from serious injury. Havertz is classy but couldn’t hit a barn door. Lukaku is fat, lazy, clumsy, and useless. CHO will leave, never recovered from his Achilles tear. Madueke has lots of potential, but still doesn’t look top class in the making, jury is out on him. Nkunku is coming in and as with all signings from the BL, it’s better to wait and see before saying anything.

Never, ever have I seen a team spend so much, and assemble such a hodge lodge of shit in all my life. I am sure some of them will come good, but it’s not like anyone they’ve signed excites you thinking that they are a potential super star in the making. None of them look like they have that IT factor. It’s an amazingly average squad, and it’s the most expensively assembled in history I think. Madness. I have no idea where the goals are going to come from.

So a team that finished 3rd last season, spent 600m and went through 3 managers, and now has a worse squad and a worse manager than at the start. Genius. And with all that money spent, they still need to not only sell, loan release about 10 first team players, but they need to strengthen the entire spine of the team. A top class CB, CM, and CF are all needed. Arguably a GK too.

Boehly’s leadership should be a case study in ignorance, incompetence, and hubris.
Harsh but basically spot on assessment. Nicely done!

Yeah fair assessment aside from the portion about the defence. Fofana, Badiashile, Silva, Chalobah plus Colwill to return is a super talented group, as well as Chilwell, James and Gusto.

Also think it’s an unnecessarily negative take on the midfield. We’ll see what Kante is like after a summer’s rest. Galllagher is a good squad player, so is RLC . Enzo is excellent and Mount looks like he staying and is an excellent player. Plus we’re likely adding at least one midfielder this summer.

Agree on the attack though. Hopefully more structure and guidance under Poch helps that. I’ve always said the most important part of a team is the coach. A team that looks like a mish mash of dysfunction could look like a coherent unit very quickly under the right coaching.

According to CAF Tuchel was a bad appointment and would fail. Yet he walked away a CL winner.

According to 12% Of CAF believe United should replace ETH if they finish 5th.

CAF also still harbours both Ole apologists and supporters.

With all due respect, this forum continues to exemplify extremely poor judgement on managers.

12 per cent is a small minority. What’s the % for Tuchel? I hope you know that the “caf” is not a group of 5 people who have the exact same view but rather a huge diverse group where you can expect all sorts.

@Amadaeus How do you think Poch would do at Chelsea?
He will be one of Chelsea best ever manager, you can quote me on this. If the owners give Pochettino full control as is reported. Pochettino is exactly what Chelsea needs to develop their younger players and transform their underperforming stars. However, it won't be an easy job because their team is a mess and just a collection of individuals stars. Pochettino will have to transform these individuals into a team with the right mentality and balance

One step away from being officially official.

Welcome aboard @Amadaeus

Smartest decision Boley has made. People who don't understand football will say he failed at psg, but yet this season vidicated him by how badly galtier is doing. It will probably be a long time before any other managers at psg get them to the semi final of champion league or be unbeaten at home in a single season.

  Spot on!

Well he waited long enough but is finally getting a big job in London (where his family was/is settled).
Can’t wait to read pages after pages from @Amadaeus about how the Chelsea squad is letting Poch down, etc.
Bet you and many of the other caf members taught poch wouldn't get another big job. Yet, real madrid and Chelsea were interested in him. People who actually watches and understand football knows how brilliant a manager poch is

Your back! And posting drivel straight away, good for you, straight back on the horse!

I wonder if I should make a thread on, who will win the premier league title first Pochettino or Erik ten hag? Similiar to the "will Newcastle finish above Manchester united thread."

You still going on with this bullshit? A fecking trained monkey could do what he did at PSG

Poch with a good squad like Chelsea is going to be interesting. We're going to be looking at a genuinely challenging race for Top 4 next season .

  are you actually a United fan or what the hell are you?

No European football for Chelsea next season so they'll basically play one game a week for most of the season. That gives Poch time to implement his ideas and his teams usually play with lots of energy and intensity (at least I saw his Spurs side in that way) so they'll be fresh and rested for league games.

Also good to see him back in the Premier League and it'll make the league even more interesting.

As it stands, there are at least 4 better managers than him in the PL, all with better squads too. His best achievement with Chelsea will be getting 3rd or 4th place.

Do it, will be good craic

This thread will be very interesting next season.

And Poch failed at PSG spectacularly. Messi and Neymar both had the worst seasons of their career since they entered their "prime" under Poch.

Who will put the ball in the net enough for us to get to top 6 let alone top 4? Our attack is dreadful and I find it hard to see Lukaku as the solution with Poch.

Very reasonable chance he's no better than Potter. It all depends on clearing players out and what goal scorers we can get in imo.

I'd take Neymar, if Clearlake can afford it. Don't see other attacking options on the market who can improve us enough.

Did Di Matteo not fail

After his honeymoon, he ended up a very underwhelming appointment and let’s not forget he helped build this squad and also was responsible for their shite start to the season.

Is it failure if I think his sacking was harsh? Yeah his career since has vindicated the sacking but at the time we were 3rd or 4th like 5 point off the league leaders and we hadn’t even gotten to December yet. He has failed elsewhere but I don’t think he failed at Chelsea.

I think this could work out. Chelsea have few midweek games next season, if Poch can implement a philosophy on the training ground they could build a good team.

The squad assembled by Chelsea is not too dissimilar to how Southampton used to build their squad when Poch was there.

Lots of young and promising players, lot of attacking flair.
It’s actually a smart move to bring in Poch, I’m curious to see what he can do at Chelsea but I think he’ll be a success

Any success or failure will be so dependant on getting rid of a truckload of players asap, even more so than signing any new ones.

Only because all the teams are shite though, not because there’s 6 amazing teams which people always predict.
It's a bit of a cynical view.

Arsenal have massively improved, as have Newcastle who weren't even in the conversation. United managed a good 2/3 of a season. Liverpool have been below par and even more so Chelsea. Teams like Brighton just don't have the manpower to get into the top 4.

I don't think Liverpool and Chelsea will be as bad and I think Newcastle and Arsenal will still be quite good.

Sure but the likelihood is that one or two of those teams will disappoint again next season. I imagine Newcastle may find life much harder fighting in the champions league as well as the league for example. I’m also not convinced that Chelsea will miraculously transform from relegation form to top four form in a summer. I think usually you get one or two very good teams and quite a lot of dross in behind them, as has been the case this season.
