Harry is leaving. There's a slot for a 4th centreback.
If Kane is out injured, we're stuck with Martial (who himself is not reliable to stay fit long enough) and then no one else.
If Casemiro is out we've got Fred The Red. Do you put any faith into him performing to the highest level consistently?

As for rotation players, that's up to the club to make that case to the agents/players themselves. Issue is we severely lacking in depth. One knock to one of Martial, Cas or Varane and we're back to Ole ball.

We need depth if we're going to be challenging for any trophies.

Proven and established top level international players aren't joining United (or anyone else) just to be rotation players unless they're offered seriously OTT wages, we need to be looking at players that are not yet established with good potential, ones like Malacia

Mate I'm just going by what players we've been linked with. Ideally I'd love for us to be more shrewed in the transfer window and scoop up players that cost a lot less but with future world class potential so I agree with you on that.

Levy will drain this club dry for Kane seeing as a ST is our top priority position to fill. I think Rice is gettable and we also have Rabiot available on a free. All established names but that's the route we have to go if we're going to be challenging for top honors in the here and now.
To be honest I don't know where we'll end up. Whatever the case, we can't go another season with Harry, McTominay and even Martial in this team.

The biggest need is a top striker, first choice is Kane and he will cost, but he's worth it IMO, he guarantees goals as much as any incoming player can guarantee

Rice is my midfield choice because he can play multiple roles, Casemiro has shown he's capable up the field if he get's a bit of space, Rice can cover when he does that, Rice is a good ball carrier and he's press resistant, and he can play at CB if really needed, if Lindelof stays then Maguire wouldn't need replacing in that scenario

I shudder at the thought of sitting with Maguire for another season. I don't hate the guy as many have trolled him endlessly even for his wedding album and people are disgusting for doing that but football wise he's not suitable to playing the role that Eric wants him to play. Makes me nervous when he starts because you know there's an error in his game that will allow the opposition to get a goal. No idea if its the pressure of the club or expectations to perform but he needs to move on and I hope he does become succesful elsewhere. Maybe he's suited to a league where the pace is alot slower.

Rice is an interesting target for sure. Problem is what kinda price are they going to be looking for him. It seems anyone with a link to United gets an automatic 20 million added to their price.

Kane is my preferred choice but again as a few have said, the price tag will be high, probably more than Antony.

EDIT:Sorry I don't want to derail the thread by discussing other players. Kane is my preffered choice.

Why do you assume we are buying them to become rotation players? They will be aware of the competition and will be given a fair chance. Not to mention the factor of injuries. Kim has won the Serie A but his dream has always been the PL. Rice (or also Caicedo) want to challenge for titles. If we want those players and negotiate well, they will come. We need squad depth and now have a good functioning squad to further build upon.

Anyway Kane would be an instant stsrter here and a safe investment.
 
Levy is under massive pressure at Spurs I’m not sure he’s selling Kane this summer there will be riots

Generally think he’ll let Kane run his contract down and hope he can get them a top 4 spot than take the money

He scored 30 this season and they came 8th. Can you describe to me what he might have to do to get them 4th?

I think they are struggling for Top 8 next season, even with Kane. They can't even attract a manager and major surgery is needed. I think Levy has the possibility to sell Kane, paint him as a villain and then use him as a ready made excuse for when they are inevitably garbage next season. I really don't see how they can build a squad to challenge top 4, based on what they have there now, without selling either half the squad or Kane plus a couple of others. They are in an extremely difficult situation right now.

It’s not on Kane for Spurs finishing 8th is it. They aren’t going to lose those 30 goals to a rival club either.

Spurs need to strengthen the squad and get a decent manager selling Kane puts them back possibly years because you can’t just go out and pick up a 30 goal a season player

Our logic doesn't apply the same to Levy's logic. Levy thinks and hopes that Kane will give him chance for top 4. Selling Kane means Levy can say good bye of top 4, hence why he's been reluctant to sell Kane.

The thing is there's definitely 6 teams better than them now, so they would need a season where at least 3 of them have absolute shockers, we had 2 this season with Pool and Chelsea and Spurs still finished behind Villa and Brighton too.

Selling Kane gives you a ton of cash to build a squad instead of relying on 1 player

I'd prefer us to get £100m from Chelsea than to get nothing and have no say what club he goes to. If he stays, it would just be delaying the inevitable and we will end up with no money for a replacement.

There is also the risk of being distracted from January onwards, which means we might need another player from that point onwards, anyway.

Buying "superstars" creates an additional problem when they are not starting they are more inclined to have a strop. The key is finding players with the right attitude, and I really trust ETH on that one. Casemiro didn't start for the first few weeks after he joined, but he waited patiently and then made himself undroppable. Any player joining us should have the mentality that he will force his way into the first team, whoever is supposedly in front of him.

Why wouldn't he have signed a new contract already, though? It doesn't really make much sense as he would know any new contract will sign away the rest of his career, so he would have accepted that by now. I also cannot believe this is the first time he would have been offered a renewal after what happened with Man City, so he has likely put it off, or turned it down, beforehand.

Tottenham would likely be willing to pay almost anything he wants, so money would not be an issue. So what would the hold up on a new contract be?

The only reason that makes sense is extreme doubt in Tottenham, which would have been reinforced by their terrible league season. So, what could possibly sway him into signing a new contract for Tottenham? We have to remember he already showed doubt in Tottenham when he clearly wanted to leave for City.

Even if they keep him next season, they would literally have to challenge for the Premier League title to have any chance of changing his mind. Nothing else would be enough.

If Kane were to sign a new contract, I believe he would have done it already.

I don’t think a club will ever suggest to a prospective signing that they are rotation or backup (except maybe keepers) during negotiations. To be any use, a player has to believe that he is competing for a place in the team.

As a club we have to sign the best players we can afford in the positions where the squad is weakest and let them compete for selection.

Another relevant truth is that SAF often signed top players just because they became available. We really didn’t need Veron, for example, but he was a brilliant player and we were able to get him at that time.

I don’t know if this strategy was always a good idea - these days the expense is more of a factor - but imo if we sign a centre back, for example, it should be the best one we can get, even though Varane and Martinez are excellent. If the club is of the same mind, it would explain why we might be in for Rice, even though Case is brilliant.

Seems to work quite well for City... they have Akaji, Stones, Dias, Laporte and Ake - who all rotate.

Your job as a player is to force your way into the team so you don't get rotated - just like Bissaka for example.

If they sell Kane for 100m, they will only get 20m per year in 5 years instalment paid. But if they get UCL spot, they can get 3 or 4x more than 20m per year. In Levy’s logic, they will have a chance for top 4 if they keep Kane.

Sad thing is that their DOF was banned, who was responsible for hiring these defensive coaches like Nuno and Conte. Now they might get a progressive coach.

I don’t even think this is true. 1 top 4 place in the last 4 seasons with Kane up top doesn’t paint a great picture
 
Ornstein yesterday on various media platforms was pretty certain Levy will price him out of any move this summer. Thinks Kane will either run his contract down or sign a new one. Leaving Spurs the least likely outcome unless a really daft offer is made.

Historically, teams tend to do alright when the one star man leaves. Just look at Dortmund as a recent example, performed pretty much same level without Haaland than they did with him.
 
Kane is on the verge of career suicide if he doesn't leave Spurs this season. He should have left years ago, but he'll forever be known as the 'nearly man' if he doesn't leave.

Has all the talent in the world but no trophies to show for it.

I would be amazed if he signed a new contract. Ornstein might be quite reliable but he’s not in Levy’s head. It’s not a stretch to assume that Levy wants and expects to be able to get Kane to sign a new contract by refusing to let him go for “reasonable” money. Kane extending is the best result for Levy.

If Kane makes it clear that he is absolutely not signing a new contract then that would have a significant impact on Levy’s thinking regarding what is the “best” result from there.

They’ve been shocking in the transfer market Spurs they won’t do that. If they sell Kane for 100m how much is it costing them for a player capable of 20-30 goals? You’re paying 60m and over regardless

Why not 2 players capable of 15 goals each? Surely building a team (when you’re not very good) is better than spending all that cash on yet another player they’ll just rely on instead of building a fully functional team.

Levy is a moron. The only way someone gets kane out of spurs is by bidding £100m+ which everyone will be reluctant to do given his age. Even then levy would prob wait until the last day of the window to allow the deal to go through in the hope of ekeing out some extra pounds

He is a moron who measures his own worth in terms of achieving the best possible result (by his own criteria).

If Kane refuses to sign a new contract, Levy has to chose between the best offer and one season of Kane’s services and he absolutely will see it that way. If the best offer is, say, £75m, he will flip it and ask if he wants to pay £75m to keep Kane for one year.

We don’t know Levy’s real opinion on how much one season of Kane is worth to Spurs but (moron or not) Levy will operate and negotiate with knowledge of that figure.
 
No chance in hell he stays. They can’t even find a manager FFS. How many candidates have turned down the job so far? Spurs are a mess and it won’t be turned around while Kane is in his final prime years.
