Choupo Moting and Müller are not fit, only Gnabry as false 9 would have been an opportunity, but he is not good there either.

You can make all kinds of excuses or what if scenarios but the fact remains that Rooney had 2 such seasons and were washed by the time he was 28, whereas Kane has maintained his scoring rate for the last, what, 8 years? At his absolute peak I’d rather have Rooney in the team because he had other exceptional qualities but as a pure goalscorer I maintain that you would be hard pressed to get the majority of Utd fans to put Rooney ahead of Kane, never mind the football community at large.

Obviously they don't expect him to carry them trough the season yet, otherwise they wouldn't have signed Kane, but they trust him to play when they need him.
But most of them don't be first choice at a top club at 18 yo either. Unless they're Messi, Ronaldo Rooney or Mbappe. Yes, the price tag isn't important itself. What matters is that he was bought to be build up as Lewandowski's successor. That didn't work out due to his transfer to Barca, but anyway that's the role he should fulfill.
