Gary Neville

I get that some folk are irritated by him and his type, but to suggest the man, who has done more for our club that anyone on here, doesn’t love United is genuinely puzzling to me.

i'll never understand why our fans get so wound up by him, amazes me. Top bloke imo.
I like him as a pundit. He knows a lot about the game and seems down to earth. I much prefer him in the studio than in the commentary box though as he comes out with the odd howler in-game.

Some fans just assume other people are biased if they disagree at all about football. Martin Tyler was accused of being biased against every top 6 PL club by that clubs fans and so is just about every ref and major journalists.

I think going against your club to further your career rubs a lot of fans up the wrong way. It doesn’t hurt Jamie or Micah but here we are with Gary.

Well im sorry that i wasnt able to qualify for RB at Man Utd because i was too fat unlike the LB position for Shaw

The thing you have to remember about Neville is that he’s a bit thick. Which he tries to hide but it’s always there, right beneath the surface. So you can’t really take him seriously about anything. Conversely, Carragher sounds thick as pig-shit, but is marginally less dense than Neville.

Nah I feel like Carragher is a larger imbecile.

Gary Neville is a businessman as well as a TV presenter. Carragher spat at a child from a moving vehicle.

Landing your spit on a child from a separate moving vehicle is impressive, but I personally disagree that it's equatable with running a business and television presenting.

I think had he hit the kid, it would be a no contest.

I don’t know, it’s very easy to separate the player from the ex player for me. No different to Ole who didn’t tarnish his player legacy despite his much criticised managerial stint.

G Nev is just a normal bloke who got rich and suffered that classic misconception that rich people suffer from, of thinking they are important and have important things to say.

Bit harsh. His thought processes certainly aren’t the quickest, and he needs time to collect his thoughts before saying anything sensible. Which is why he’s so bad at co-commentary.

But give him time and he’s generally pretty sound. It does him no good that he comes across as reasonably articulate even when he’s spouting ill-considered rubbish.

I think they're both pretty thick.

What gives you the impression that he’s thick?

just curious as he certainly doesn’t seem thick to me, perhaps pig headed in his opinions but I don’t think that equates being thick. His company for example is growing bigger and bigger every year, I follow him on LinkedIn and you can see the progress they are making across Manchester

He doesnt come across as thick to me, and neither does Carragher, both are articulate and explain their thinking in the heat of the moment which isnt easy. I'd suggest anyone doing that job must be of a reasonable intelligence, perhaps posters above have a more intimate understanding of their level of intellect however.

He keeps saying stupid things. And the way he argues/debates always comes across as someone who is a bit thick. Doesn’t seem to be able to listen or understand whatever point the other person is trying to get across.

I feel like Carragher is a pretty smart guy who still can't quite shake off the urge to be one of the lads, look at that 7 Up can nonsense.

I expect it appeals to the half wits who watch Joe and Paddy Power videos and get their views from Talksport.

How he kept his role after spitting in the face of a child is mind blowing though.

He’s a pundit/analyst. He will say stupid things because we listen to him all the time and it’s his job to try and get a rise or stimulate conversation & debate with the others.
I don’t think I’d accuse him of being thick based on that tv work because he’s got a lot of strings to his bow and is very successful

I’ve met successful people who are a bit thick. So that isn’t a get out of jail free card. I’ve never met Neville, so can only judge him based on how he comes across on Tv, and on some podcasts I’ve listened to that he was on. All of which makes me think he’s a bit thick. I could be wrong. I haven’t done a formal assessment of his intelligence!

Never been more sick of him than today, didn’t think I’d dislike an ex united player pundit as much as the Liverpool ones but here we are. He’s insufferable

It does seem like he always leans towards saying calls against Uniteds rivals are harsh and does the opposite with United as if he's trying to balance out his bias.

I get why he's doing it so I don't really care about it and don't get why people here do.

Missed the Pool game. What did he do?

Full on non stop praise for Liverpool, genuinely sounded gutted when spurs won it, its not just today though, he’s had he head stuck up Liverpool’s arse for ages now. While we have to sit and listen to every non united pundit slate us at every opportunity the ex united player pundit is going out of his way to lick up to our rivals. He’s an embarrassment

If you think it's easy to commentate or being a pundit.

Try making 20 or so self made video about yourself talking football.

At one point you'd be repeating and rehashinf the same old lines and the same old vocabularies you used over and over again.

To be fair to Gary

"Oh noooo", when Tottenham actually had some space about 92mins in and could have had a break.

Sounded utterly gutted at the prospect. Very strange behaviour.

The UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled Neville was "likely to be of strong appeal to under-18s"

I think that was more him reacting to a fellow right back making a poor poor defensive decision.

This was jumped on by Spurs fans fully forgetting he hates the scousers more than most in this country.
