Brilliant. Well done Victoria Derbyshire for calling out the constant raft of lies put out by the compulsive lying Tory government. She was completely right to do that because we have become desensitised to lie after lie.
Could be. I assumed it was part of the war on woke - dogs have had it too easy for too long and so called Guide Dogs are just another example of the virtue signalling elite trying to cheat biology.Probably stepped on the dogs tail because it's black
Did anyone have to give up their house for the route?I don't understand this one at all. Aren't there already huge pieces of infrastructure built for it along the way? Will they now just be monuments to tory rule from London to the Scottish border!?
According to this report £600m worth were bought up for the parts that now seem unlikely to proceed.Did anyone have to give up their house for the route?
Thought so. What a waste of money and stressAccording to this report £600m worth were bought up for the parts that now seem unlikely to proceed.
The Hitler particles will be off the chartsThis is going to be an appallingly brutal election.
The other issues is it hurts our credibility with these sorts of projects. I am not a commercial guy, but our design team were told scraping this hurts us when we ask for funding on future infrastructure projects and UK would have a lower credit rating for such borrowing.Regarding the scrapping of HS2, I was listening to a programme manager who said that the route from Birmingham to Manchester was going to be funded with government borrowing.
And so there is no actual money to be saved.
And if Sunak announces that he is going to use the money saved by scrapping HS2 to be used for an east west rail link, that is also going to have to be funded by borrowing.
Torries have passed the centre ground straight to Labour. Even Labour can't mess this up, unless they pass it to another party and not take the shot themselves.Surely this gives Labour room to be bolder. The centre ground is now all but abandoned by The Tories, they can occupy it, and not just that bit right of David Cameron, but that bit to the left of Tony Blair. They cannot drag the centre any closer to these Tory psychopaths, we cannot pretend this is normal.
Be bold and go for it, Keir. You're clean through and only Onana is in between you and the goal.
Can these scum make it any less obvious of their contempt for the north.
Surely this gives Labour room to be bolder.

All for nothing. They will probably sell all the land off to developers to build apartments so they can move all the undesirables out of LondonMy dogs country club got eaten up by it and permanently closed. Owners were heartbroken.

How do you think everything else is funded? The government currently owes £2.6 trillion and borrows about £130b a year. Governments function on debt. The money is saved because its a few billion we don't need to borrow for that purpose.
Still, cancelling it is an incredibly short sighted decision and will cost him more votes than he realises, mine included.
So if the money is being redeployed elsewhere I.e. zero savings, then why not just complete the project…? Am I missing something
So London gets another commuter route and the rest of the country gets a new high speed hub station with no high speed railway going to it, and Leeds is getting a tram!
So if the money is being redeployed elsewhere I.e. zero savings, then why not just complete the project…? Am I missing something
Ok.
One small point.
The long term borrowing the government is borrowing in order to fund HS2 was primarily when interest rates were significantly lower.
It is still going to have to access long term borrowing in order to fund the whole raft of new projects. But much of that borrowing will now be at a higher rate and most likely for a longer term.
Sunak just said that every penny of the money (borrowing) saved by scrapping HS2 will be spent on these new projects.
So. Where is the saving coming from?
Because you don't just stop HS2 work in an instant. That will carry on for years.
It is all smoke and mirrors.
Maybe I misheard it but I thought he said he was giving 36b to transport projects, whereas cancelling HS2 would save something like twice that?
Either way they didn't borrow the full 100b HS2 money at the start, they get it as its needed. These new projects will be the same so it doesn’t really make any difference to the cost. He just didn't want to lose votes by bulldozing through Tory constituencies.
