    Onana
    Dalot - Evans - Maguire - Reguilon
    Amrabat - Eriksen
    Antony - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial
A laboured performance and narrow win incoming, though dropped points wouldn't shock me.

Varane and Lindelof are available, so hopefully not this CB pair

Need a comfortable win here. Anything less Is an embarrassment and shows how much work needs to be done.

It won’t be but he as a point. Losing to these and there could be no way back. Especially if we get smashed the week later to city.

    A diamond for this one?

    ................. Onana

    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Reguilon

    .............. Amrabat

    McTominay........... Mount

    ........... Fernandes

    ... Højlund......Rashford

I always like the idea of a diamond as it seems to naturally create passing triangles, but have we ever used it effectively? Seems like we're still a counter attacking style team.

Our best chance to win this game is without Bruno, Rashford and Casemiro. If any of those 3 play, we are going to struggle again. Mount has also done nothing to warranty a continued place in the 11. On merit, all 4 players deserve to be dropped.

Onana needs to be taken out of the firing line to get his head right or he will keep making mistakes. If Heaton is ready to go, i'd play him.

Hopefully Mainoo and Reguilon are ready for this one. Hannibal should also be playing way more than he has so far this season.

Not bothered who plays at CB because our top 4 CBs have been very poor this season. Lindelof is back to being his usual clownish self and Varane is a crock. I would put Evans and Maguire ahead of Lindelof in the pecking order at this moment as they have been much better than Lindelof when they've played.

With that being said, my XI would be:
    Heaton/Onana
    Dalot, Varane/Maguire, Evans, Reguilon
    Mainoo, Amrabat
    Antony, Hannibal, Garnacho
    Hojlund
My hopeful team hasn't changed for this one. Though I concede Ten Hag won't throw Mainoo in straight away. If he's not the one then i'd play Eriksen instead. Maybe i'd play Mount at 10 instead of Hannibal but those are the only two changes i'd make. Bruno and Rash need to be woken up from their eternal slumbers with a good benching.

    That’s the spirit.

 Yeah, the last handful of games and performances have done a number on me. I'm genuinly unsure we can beat Sheffield.

It won’t be but he as a point. Losing to these and there could be no way back. Especially if we get smashed the week later to city.

It feels like the sort of moment it would be hard to get back from. The morale drop of not being able to beat the worst team in the league doesn't exactly build you up for the next few games. After this we have a CL tie against a tricky, but very beatable opponent, the City game and then Newcastle in the league cup.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but we haven't really seen all that many convincing performances.

If we don't beat Sheffield, I think it's curtains for Ten Hag.
No chance, I think he at least survives until Ratcliffe completes his takeover of the football department. Of course, this is assuming we don't suffer an incredible collapse that warrants an emergency sacking, but I can't see it.

I think the only convincing win we’ve had this season was the cup game against palace. The rest we’ve been poor in. This is the type of game to gain momentum. We don’t really score many goals but if theirs a game we should then it’s this one.

So we have Michael Oliver as a referee. After that game against Tottenham? I'm not surprised. Him, Taylor and few other shouldn't ref our games in my opinion. Haven't club made any official protest after games against Arsenal, Tottenham and Crystal Palace games?

We can be sure that we need to play twice as good as Sheffield United to win this game.

I believe we played with a diamond against Brighton, and we looked good first half with decent control of the midfield. We were badly beaten in the second half, though, and god knows what formation we were trying to play.

Tomorrow, I still expect Hag to use Antony against a presumingly poor Sheff.Utd side - so maybe rather 4-2-3-1 then.

Hopefully it’s not pissing it down, what’s the flood situation like in Sheffield? Hoping they’ve got decent drainage

    That will be the team

Why would anything less be an embarrassment? City beat them with a goal in the 88th minute. Spurs needed a 100th minute winner. Breaking down teams with 11 men behind the ball is always hard.

    Unless you're Newcastle!

Oliver should have been suspended after outing himself as either the president of the Mateo Kovačić fan club or the official English FA representative of Abu Dhabi.

A defeat in such a high-profile game will make things difficult. Sat night, big audience (is it same time as the rugby??). This could go either way. A statement victory with Mount, Rashford coming alive would be what we really need... but dropped points, or defeat. That would be pretty, pretty definitive for ETH.

Anyway, come on lads. Surprise us all, and click into gear... please? :)

If I see McTominay in the starting XI I’ll puke.

Realistically should be Bruno dropped and have Mount and Hannibal ahead of Amrabat but that will never happen.

I think SMT should start. And ETH should tell him that he needs to go out and play, just like he did when he came on as sub against Brentford. Just play like that. Casimero isn't fit anyway, so he should play alongside Amrabat.

We're just gonna punt long balls at the box at him are we?

Come on, of course, I didn't say anything like that. I want SMT to go out and play with a mindset to make a difference, get in the box and look to score. I am not suggesting we play route-one-last-minute-desperation-football, not at all. But SMT should be feeling confident now. Go out there, read the game, make some tackles, drive us on, be responsible, don't go missing, win possession, keep it simple, break their game up, and go score some goals.

That should be all SMT does, or seeks to do. He's v effective when he does this. SMT needs to become that personaility, maybe take a look at Bellingham and go out and define a game.

Maguire up top and McT looking for knock downs. That's a solid tactic right there and is proven to result in at least a goal, it has worked 100% of the time it was tried

No point even trying to play football with this lot, they've proven time and time again they can't do it. Time to go back to a basic 442 and punting long balls up to Harry's big head and getting runners around him.

I guess we find out who the real hard men of the forum are tonight who stick around to watch these dedicated Utd players kick a ball instead of a load of over sized bearded men throw a ball sidewards for 80 minutes. That includes me. I’m well tough.

This round marks the quarter mark. It's about time with a result that starts moving the dial on where we are so far this season (a mid-table side, essentiallly). Meaning a convincing win, by more than one goal. Which we haven't managed a single time so far. Not once.

Didn't even know the rugby was on until you just mentioned it

Yes but them 2 teams have been playing great football this season and dominating games. We’ve been getting battered most games and scraping wins. So the point is we need a comfortable win to boost some confidence.

    Onana
    Dalot Maguire Varane Regulion
    Bruno Amrabat McT
    Antony Hojlund Rashford

I hope Rasmus gets a goal or two
