In the attacking third we just have zero connectivity and players just receive the ball, stop try to make it look like they want to take the player on...then just turn away and pass (often poorly) to someone else that does exactly the same!

I feel this is slowly slipping away from ETH. I can’t see what he’s trying to do.
Individual brilliance (and faults), yes. Solid, attacking team, no.
We might win tonight but we’ve looked like a mid-table team for quite some time now.

My thoughts exactly. Even with Martinez and Shaw back I don’t think that’s suddenly going to change how we play. Once again we have bought players for a manager who has failed already. About time we had a modern structure for a football club and not be so reliant on the manager. Clear as day Ten Hag will be gone before the end of the season imo, just with United it takes 3 months longer than any other club.

They'd make a huge difference. Shaw is vastly better at LB than Lindelof and the best LB at the club. Martinez is our most capable ball playing defender. Varane is our best defender. I can't believe this has to be spelled out.
The back 4 is not the issue in this game. Varane is hugely overrated.

Yeah it’s getting very hard to stay positive with him, our level of play is just abysmal. I been saying it for years, I just don’t know what we do in training, doesn’t matter what players, manager or coaches we have in place we never improve in anything.
Problem is he seems to stick with the same underperforming people. He needs to grow a pair and start dropping these supposed big stars.
If he just keeps doing the same thing over and over it’s unlikely anything will change. Given performances this season for the midfield Hannibal should be the first name picked, week in week out.

This is basically what Arteta has done with Arsenal, seems to have worked fairly well for them.
Arteta is actually pretty clever with this, if you watch Arsenal, when they score, one of their players immediately gets “injured” and it takes the sting out of the game.

I’ve had those thoughts too. All this changing the management, coaching staff and players over the last number of years but the same old problems still persist.

We were crap with them at the start of the season, and pre season. OK we'd have enough too keep these out as they're so bad, but that's a very low bar. It's not just personnel but the whole lot. Or first choice attack looks woeful. They barely threatened the defence so you can't say our defence is holding us back.
I agree defence isn't the only problem. I was originally responding to someone who claimed that having them back wouldn't make a difference which is just silly.

The shameful thing is no one is asking the manager the difficult questions during pre and post match interviews

It's worse than dire. 10 man spurs dominated this team

Turning to McTominay should always be last resort. Today we see the good and the bad from him.
Apart from the goal there was little good. Handbal or Mount would give more control of this game, then let the front 4 work out how to score.

If I was Garnacho I'd be trying to get away from this dead club.

The fact EtH picks rashford over him every fecking week is a disgrace.

I have zero doubts whatsoever that if Garnacho got a run of games in this current United line up, he would be rocketed up to the very top of players the fans blame for everything.

Things wouldn't change and in typical United fan fashion, they'd look at themost recent change then pin all blame on them.

This is a game we should be winning. If only our players played with little more attitude and passion.

Dalot and Rashford have been so bad that I hope for a change at half time.

A typical away United performance. Every team in the league seems to be better than us at passing, dribbling and challenging. We're playing like a long ball team with players who can't even head the ball to their teammates.

Bruno is doing his trademark "I have to create chances as we've got no one else so I'm allergic to a 10 yard pass" routine. Rashford had no idea what to do in attack in the first 40 mins. McT is only good in their box, invisible everywhere else. Antony can keep the ball and do nothing else. And Lindelof and Dalot are just weak. None of the three parts of a team are functioning at all. We have no cohesion anywhere.

I also have to mention the penalty. I understand why it was given. What bothers me is that if the ref doesn't give it, VAR, the commentary and the media would just nod along and say it was the right call. But now that it was given, they'll all be in agreement that it was stonewall. Just call it what it was, a 50-50.

McT has scored, but I'd take him off for Mount. We need a player that can affect the game. Also, Garnacho needs to be on, for any of the two wingers. I hope we can win this.

One of the worst halves of football I’ve seen from us under ETH.

I don’t trust us to beat a championship side right now

ETH won’t last the season although Ratcliffe’s involvement now might buy him a bit more time which may prove to be futile anyway

So did Weghorst. He needs to show he’s got end product.

He’s played about 6 games for us. He’s shown he can finish with his CL goals. Just not happened in the PL for some reason. His touch, strength, pace all look really good.

The midfield is wide open as McTominay is pushing up and Bruno is nowhere. No balance whatsoever.

Having a couple of players out is one thing, having your entire defensive base, the majority of your midfield and then the first choice replacements for several of those players is something else entirely.

You can't play possession football with Maguire and Evans. You lose a big part the attacking threat from the left without Shaw. A defence without Casemiro and Eriksen is weaker than one with, even if they're out of form.

Doesn't help when the big players are out of form, but even if they were in form, chances are they would suffer due to the lower quality behind them.

Don't get me wrong, we've been dreadful but I'm not surprised.

Its Sheff Utd they have 1 point all season and have just been battered 8-0

We couldn’t string 2 passes together for 30 minutes. Maguire cost more than their entire first 11

Yep, it’s just ridiculous how we cant implement a consistent style of play. Actually it’s infuriating.

Same old story. After working hard to get a goal, almost immediately got hit back with an equalizer within next few minutes.
I think ETH needs to implement a new rule to his players. Once we scored, no attacking risk to be taken for next 5 to 10mins. Just keep the ball in our half and pass around.

That is actually a very good idea.

A decent manager realises his players can’t play his style of football and adapts until the injuries list isn’t so high. Ten Hag hasn’t done this at all. The entire back 4 should have been out do the door years ago. Not blaming Ten Hag for that but that’s a major factor to United’s demise.

From a statistical standpoint he should already be gone. Worst start in 34 years......

Basically he is only safe because the club is sick of changing managers but that's not a legitimate reason

I would love for ETH to make a bold call and sub Rashford at halftime. He’s a waste of space out there.

People on here don't want to criticise ETH because they campaigned so hard for him to be chosen over Poch. He's done a terrible job this season and so many of our problems are tactical. All PL teams know how to play against us to get a result
Poch hasn't exactly shone either, to be fair. we need to get the ball to rasmus more - the kid will score if we actually score if we can pass to him
