Right now in Trumps position with a sentencing hanging over him. He's still talking about shams, and he's a victim . Can we just imagine his statement he will be allowed to give at sentencing? It will be a hot mess. Will he call the judge a Soros crony and Biden supporter then and there? And then expect a light sentence? People like that never learn unless they get hit in the pocketbook like the E jean Carrol verdicts. Or start seeing real consequences finally like jail, and hopefully losing the election again.

I think you're right. I also believe that if Trump were pardoned, he would use it immediately to say it "proves" the case(s) against him were unfair and rigged. He will never know contrition, so let him rail about the unfairness of it all from within a prison cell.

I personally think that this trial shouldn't have taken place during the election campaign. It pours oil on the fire. Not that I don't believe that he's guilty, but given the level of fanaticism of his supporters, things can really go south if he loses.

He should've been quietly judged and disposed of after November 2024.

You can't quietly hope the fanatics stop being crazy. And ignore their crimes and not punish them because, they "will get mad". They are already nuts. They stormed the capital and tried to get millions of votes thrown out. They aren't going anywhere. So the crimes that can be proven and prosecuted need to move forward who cares if they get mad about it. What are they going to do storm the Capital again?

It's a question of timing, in my opinion. Trump isn't going anywhere either, proceed with the elections, then deal with him.

The MAGA cultists are so entrenched that they already view the trial as an attempt to silence him before it even gets to the ballots. If he loses, they'll automatically see it as the "Deep State finishing the job".

No one expected them to storm the Capitol, yet they did. Who knows what they could be up to this time?

Nothing like J6 or worse will happen. The leadership who led J6 are either behind bars, still being pursued by authorities, or recently out of prison / serving their probation. The collective will of MAGA is basically non-existent to foment another J6.

Was a dystopian collection.
I’m not a yank but what is happening there is fully in that genre.

If they prosecuted him after he was President it would be the deep state, if they prosecuted him in a Biden 2nd term it would be the vengeance of the deep state. There is no reality that cannot be reversed by these people. Prosecute him, jail him, throw away the key.

I'm not well versed enough in the US politics and its societal dynamics to formulate any kind of educated judgment, just voicing my opinion from what I perceive as an outsider.

I truly get what you're saying, but still would have preferred to throw away the key after the elections as I don't think that he will be elected.

In my opinion, it doesn't have the same impact. Just my two cents.

Sentencing guidelines more often than not mandated some incarceration, 22 years being the most severe. Federal time is no joke.

Not bad. I don't know where I read it that the average sentencing is 60 days though. Still in your records and maybe problems to get jobs? Banking? I don't know the nuisances to be honest

It's so petty for them to disparage Stormy Daniels as a sex worker. Their messiah paid her to help him cheat on his pregnant wife! They ignore that in painting trump as a victim in a witch-hunt. There is a reason Melania has been nowhere near the courtrooms so far. How crazy is that not to show at any of your husbands trials?

People don't seem to understand the magnitude of what is to come if he's re-elected. This guy is a moron but the poster below nailed it. Biden is our biggest downfall and he's not a strong enough candidate to put up a fight. He's the reason why we'll have trump as president once more.

And he is losing independents and mobilized democrats that he had in 2020 left and right.

Trump is not winning because he is winning support and is popular but because Biden is losing much more voters.

And to circle back, right now, only one can hope, because reality is that Trump will become POTUS

I hear you and you're spot on. The whole immigration fiasco is being handled so terribly and it's going to cost him a lot of voters. It's funny how all the immigrants here have an issue with others trying to get a better life for their families. The entire situation is being handled so irresponsibly. People are sleeping on the streets of New York because they have nowhere to go. I work a block away from the Roosevelt and I see the hopelessness on a daily basis. There should have been a proper system in place that allows these immigrants to feel like human beings and not wander the streets. Criminals are mixed in with innocent families and it's unsafe for everyone. Biden is just so weak and after all this, that moron will still win by a landslide.

Biden could have made more impact with his speech yesterday, where he called out Trump for his tantrums over the verdict. He seemed hesitant and was stumbling over his words at times. Sigh.

America is still very much a misogynistic country. It is not a coincidence that many of the trades that are most commonly berated and delegitimized, like waitressing, nursing, teaching, being a stay-at-home-parent, etc, are historically overwhelmingly female.

Sex work is no different. Those women will be berated all day long but the men who solicit sex workers to cheat on their wives are given a pass.
