Manchester United vs. Coventry City [Carling Cup]

Almost 3-0. I know this cup does not count for much or the team we put out is not near our best but i am a little depressed. 74,000 fans watching this just makes it worse.

In all fairness Im very dissapointed with these two - I think Nani's PL displays show alot of promise, but Ive seen nothing at all from Anderson that suggests hes worth his huge transfer fee.

Im totaly aware of his fitness problems and broken leg, but still, ive seen nothing to suggest his huge tallent as promised.
He's 19. Give him time, you wont see much promise in the next couple of months. I said before, he will take time, at least one season. But there is no point in buying young players if they dont get any time to develop

thank feck this wank of a competition is over for us... we can concentrate on more pressing matters... and our squad will get an extra matches rest every round....
Exactly, and the reserves can play in their own league

Martin, Bardsley and Eagles have done nothing to change my view that they should not have been kept on this season. Evans and Simpson have both ended up playing at LB so it's hardly a fair reflection on them.

I 'd have far preferred to see Hewson and Brandy out there. Looks like they'll have to wait till next year now.

Ummmmmmmm.........YES!!! There sre some quality players, I though Martin and Simpson would be good.

This was Coventrys cup final. Everyone of their team would have been up for it. This was never going to be a walk over! We should have shown them a little more respect and played a few more experienced players.

I knew as soon as i saw the line up that we'd fail to win.

I mean why no Rooney or Saha on the bench? We had no options on the bench whatsoever.

People are saying its meaningless because we are out. A cup is a cup, a win is a win. This is a bad result, regardless of who's playing. You know the press will fail to mention we had zero of our first eleven, just that we lost to Coventry
No. But it's the C. Cup. It's not a big trophy, unless you're a scouser. It doesnt matter if we're out, the League, FA Cup, CL, that's the 3 trophies that matter!

I'm not too concerned about the scoreline but the thing that will piss me off is how spasticated the press will be tomorrow regarding our loss...........

Manchester United "sent to Coventry"
"United Mifsud their chances to win"

Regardless of whether Fergie values the competition or not, I think he owes it to the 70,000+ fans who paid their money to put out at least a half-decent team.

Totally agree. The fans that turned out tonight deserved better. Think of all the poor sods that are season ticket holders that were forced to pay for this shambles tonight!!

I don`t care that much about the League Cup, one less game for us to collect injuries and suspensions.

Got to feel for the 57000 who were made to shell out for a miserable performance though. They should almost get an apology.

Shows how shit our youth team is.

Liverpool win
Arsenal win
Chelsea win
Manchester United get knocked out in the same round as last year

feckin embarrassing.

we do this on purpose. there are more important things for SAF to focus on, obviously..

I have to say, I'm glad to go out of this one, it's pointless

Disappointing night for Evans and Pique though

I was glad to go out last season. But its different this season. What the feck do you do with all these players?

I dont know what's worse, the scousers on our backs and calling us shite after our youth side lose to Coventry in the Carlington Cup or United fans getting angry because our youth side loses and the very young players didnt deliver

I'm not that bothered about being knocked out of this tournament but what worries me is the lack of depth in the squad. I thought we had a decent second string with eagles, martin etc. but from the performance tonight I am having severe second thoughts!

Watch some of these lot in the United side tonight get loaned out to Championship sides after tonight....

This is true. Feel a bit sorry for the United fans, paid lots of money for a rather poor performance. But beside that, it's not a big deal if we lose tonight

Call me a muppet, but this is just unacceptable. Weaste might have his own reasons for being happy but being a European Giant, playing at home infront of 63000 supporters and losing to a championship side when you have your 2nd best keeper, 2 midfielders that have cost a fortune and your 2 future center backs? Of course this means nothing about the League or the CL but it makes you think, what to expect from those promising young players. Of course Dong is shite and now it's more than just official...

The media. ABUs. Watch as this forum now fills up with "guests" too.

Welcome gloating guests. Everyone wave. Their middle fingers.

Whatever people say, we have shown in recent years that our second string are crap. SAF has shown disrespect to Coventry (or to the Carling Cup) by fielding a poor team. My compatriot Michael Mifsud has rightly punished United and we should get him instead of the useless Dong and a few other players. Get him in January so that all of us Maltese United fans will be proud that a local lad has played for United. Won't sell as much shirts as Dong though!! Even if all of us Maltese buy a United shirt with Mifsud on it, it'll be only 400,000 and that's counting children and women.
Glad for the lad though - well done Michael.

It's gonna be a big night for them, probably the biggest for them this season... And Torres is god

I'd take Mifsud over Dong. I'd take most coventry players over Dong.

Our season is over

Yeah. And so can the arse, dippers and Renties. So what's your point.

my point is that its a competition designed for lesser teams..... to be honest id put the charity shield down as a more worthwhile cup to win....

arse, pool and chelski will still be floundering around playing whomever in their squad while we can get to rest players..... is that clear enough for you or will i draw you a diagram?

"long ball forward"

"XYZ knocks it long"

"United go long"

"XYZ looks to go long"
