AS Roma vs. Manchester United

Well have to let him be Vida... We all know how difficult those post pubescent years are.

Harping on about my age, you are a total prick

Heard it all before

There's no other explanation for your total disgust and hatred towards your fellow fans... Come on man we all slag eachother, and its been talked about for months now how silly it is to create a matchday thread 90 hours before kick off.

FFS

I only done it to piss off VidaRed

Christ sake

You think he's actually destroyed that he didn't get to make a matchday thread? Cheer up a bit, were all here to talk about our number one passion in life. Lets just be mature about things.

Why don't you both shut up, if you have nothing to post about the match kindly feck off

Spot on. Dick heads arguing about who gets to start the thread is a waste of bandwidth.

I wonder how many people will actually watch the match? It's bound to be a shocker or us getting hammered.

losing means nothing as we've already ensured the top spot, the only thing we should care about is not getting embarassed, and if we play our second team, that should take care of that.

Pert, perhaps you should insult people less often when they make their threads if you don't want them to do the same to you...

You act like a cnut when they make their threads early and you're wondering why you're not having such a wonderful time...

Roma will be playing their reserves as well.

Good oppurtunity for the younger lads to put in a better showing than the Carling Cup.

Hey heres an idea.... let me do the Pool thread and watch in amusement as due to my huge unpopularity, no bastard posts on it!!

I wonder if there is a record for lowest number of posts on a matchday thread...?

We might lose 7-1, though.

No way are my family going to Roma clash, says Fergie

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has banned his family from travelling to the Roma match after the violence that erupted when the sides met last season.

Both Roma and United were fined after rival fans hurled missiles at each other and baton-wielding police were criticised for attacking innocent people.

United have 1,500 fans travelling to Italy for Wednesday's Champions League tie and have given them detailed instructions in which they are warned of the dangers of being ambushed if they walk or take the underground to the stadium.

"I've certainly not got anyone going this year,' said Ferguson, who was shocked at the scale of the trouble last season.

"I'm surprised there are so many fans going after last year's experience and I hope the police have more consideration."

The game is a big chance for Louis Saha to prove he has a future at Old Trafford. The Frenchman has been dogged by a knee injury this season and the club have not approached him about a new deal, even though his contract has only 18 months to run.

Saha said: "It is a challenge to have rivals like Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney but that is what you would expect at Manchester United. I have time to show everyone what I can do."

Ferguson has promised the 29-year-old striker he will be given a chance and has ruled out the prospect of signing a replacement in January.

"Where do I get another Saha?" asked the United boss. "When he's on his game, there's none better. If he can stay fit, he'll get me to the situation that I want, having a good number of forwards I can change around. One beautiful moment could spark Saha off."

sure fergy said in his interview hes going to feed a totally different side and its going to be unrecognisable - something along those lines!
think our second string will hold up pretty well!

----------------PIG----------------
Simpson---Evans---Piqué---O'Shea-
Eagles---Fletcher---Anderson---Nani
------------Dong---Saha-----------

2-1 loss.

I for one am backing our 'weakened' team to do the business in Rome. They have talent and hopefully with a little extra help from senior players they can get through this. They have to be thrown in the deep end sooner or later and its time to make sure they dont sink when it really matters.

Why is Anderson in Rome?

Huge game at the weekend for which he should be a certain starter. Can't see any good reason to risk him in a dead match. He's getting plenty of football right now, he did ok against Arsenal at Highbury, didn't look out of his depth there, so must surely be in the side at Anfield.

It's different for the likes of Nani, Saha, Fletcher, perhaps even Carrick; none of whom are quite at their best right now but Anderson is a key player for us and should be kept fresh.

----------------PIG----------------
Simpson---Evans---Piqué---O'Shea-
Eagles---Fletcher---Anderson---Nani
------------Dong---Saha-----------

2-1 loss.

Carrick should play, we need Anderson next weekend! And I would start with Rooney, he needs more games, Dong can come on in the 60th minute and finish them off

Some of you guys crack me up...

We shouldn't really be risking Anderson, but who else can we play? If Hargreaves didn't injure himself he'd probably have started with Carrick. But nevermind.

It'll be an entertaining game, but I doubt we'll have the same fireworks as last season. Theres no need for a grudge match, espically if players get hurt or sent off. It'll be a competitive friendly basically.

Do you think Fergie will play young Evans-Pique in central defence or play O'Shea central to get some experience, with Evans left back?

I don't think he'll play Evans and Pique together after what happened at Coventry.

I think Anderson is playing to gain some more European experience.

To be fair he did play in Europe last year as well, and will be of vital importance v Liverpool, so I think he should be rested

There's no doubt we'll take some young kids," the manager told Manchester United Radio. "We've won the group and Roma are guaranteed second place, so there's no issue with us potentially affecting the outcome of the group.

"We wanted to give the young boys experience playing in the Carling Cup but they let themselves down against Coventry. Now there's a chance for the likes of Jonny Evans, Gerard Pique, Danny Simpson and Chris Eagles to elevate themselves. We know all about their ability but this is an opportunity for them to prove themselves.

"They won't be on their own, though. They'll have back-up from players like John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Louis Saha, Nani and Anderson. Cristiano Ronaldo might possibly be involved as well.

Man, dont play Ronaldo or Anderson, what if they get injured.

PIG, Simmo, Pique, Evans, O'Shea could well be our back line :nervous:

It would be stupid to play Ronaldo or/and Anderson in this game when we play liverpool on sunday and after that we play 4 games in 9 or 10 days starting with Everton on 23rd, Sunderland 26th, West Ham 29th and Birmingham 1st of january.

My cousin will be traveling from Sweden to see this, I keep telling him that our weakened side will play, he refuses to believe.

Don't worry about our youthfull players needing 'rest', that's shite, plus they all want to play. Worry about giving Giggs, Van der Sar, Ferdinand days off seeing as they need it.

If we don't play with Ronaldo or Anderson then we will lose by 6 or 7 goals.:)

Players like Ronaldo, Rooney, and Anderson are extremely young and in excellent shape. They benefit from the more games they get and they always want to be involved. It's just a question of what's in the best interests of the club.

I predict

Kuszczak; Simpson-Pique-O'Shea-J Evans; Eagles-Fletcher-Carrick-Nani; Dong-Saha

Per SAF's admission* that he'll take some first teamers to fill his bench, I see the following 9 traveling: Heaton, Brown, Evra, Lee, Anderson, Barnes, Hewson, Rooney, Tevez.

Rio, Vidic, van der Sar, Hargreaves, Ronaldo, and Giggs stay behind. Neville and Scholes still ruled out through injury.

"It is a golden opportunity for us and we are not going to miss it," said Ferguson.

"Roma have qualified, so they will probably play some younger players and so will we. "I will take a lot of the first-team squad with me because I need 18 players but it will be an almost completely different team."

Simpson---Evans---Piqué---O'Shea-

2-1 loss.

i cant see us scoring with that team

if saf plays that team i think we will lose 4-0

---------Anderson-------------
---------------Saha-----------

Seems to me he'll go for the infamous 4-5-1.

This I based on comments, news...etc. Personally, this seems very likely to happen.

The subs seem to me like:

VDS, Rio, Evra, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Giggs.

Dong went flying to Rome, only to watch in the stands.

Wait, is Neville not available for yet another two weeks? I thought he'd be fit for Wednesday's clash.

Will Roma be putting a reserve team out since qualification is assured and they can't pass us no matter what the result?

Who knows? They know we will field a lesser side with the game at Liverpool at the weekend, maybe they will be looking for payback from the arseing we gave them this spring.
