Rooney will take this as a confidence boost, because the team needs him as much as Ronaldo. It will be easier for them to get into bed early in two days, because the bitter taste of defeat will get to stew over the new year's. The effect a loss has on winners like these, I am confident will gel them tighter together.

Anyone who thinks this is a disaster for you is just stupid, every team needs to be reminded what a defeat feels like otherwise they just get complacement and throw away more important games.
