Club or Country?

I'd pretty much agree with this.

I was gutted last night watching Terry and Gerrard score for England.

The only pleasure I get from England these days is seeing our own lads do well. I think it's down to so many cnuts playing for the national side these days, if the personnel was different maybe my view point would be too.

I didn't always think like this, although it has always been club before country for me,

Totally agree. Can't contemplate the idea of cheering on the likes of Terry, Gerrard, Lampard etc. Absolutely sickens me.

Yep, also the thousands of twats who follow In-Gur-Land does'nt endear me anymore.

You do realise that using Ingurland makes those who post it look stupid and matters not a damn on the whole to England supporters right? Is that the best slur or insult available to you lot? lol

And we at United possess perfection among our hoards of fans do we? I really must've missed that. Rather i'd say that every club and every national side ahs those who say thigns at times that make others cringe e.t.c.

I can tell you right now that when Gerrard scored last night, i was simply happy that he did, hsi Liverpool origins were nowhere in my mind. Ditto Terry pretty mcuh.

Do you think that when Sol Campbell nearly put us through to the Semis in 04, that him being an Arsenal player was ever a factor?

Glad you enjoyed it.

Not everyone thinks the same way as you though.

Live with it.

To be honest i was'nt trying to offend the whole England support!
I understand you follow England, and was obviously being very general with saying they were all twats...But sadly, a large portion are, booing national anthems etc.
I also can't share your happiness in seeing Terry or Gerrard score, does'nt make you any less of a Utd fan at all, but i don't posess the will power to urge on terry, Gerrard, Cole etc one week, and despise 'em the next.

The In-Gur-Land thing is just to piss people off, bad rep off you i imagine ;)

I follow both with a passion.

Go to most of Englands competitive home matches and would love to go to the euro's or a world cup.

There always be a conflict of interest between club and country.

I'd put money on it that most of the english on here who proclaim not give a shit about the england team would completely pull a u turn should england do well in a major tournament.

OK it always ends in heartbreak but that's what football is all about.

I'll be looking forward to watching this forum should england get to the world cup!

How can you not give a shit the whole country is buzzing when we are in a major tournament.

Fair play to you for following both with a passion.
It's only this year that i've really turned on England, when i was younger i'd be as excited if not more so by the World cup over the Champions League etc.
Don't get me wrong, i'd watch England in any major tournament, but Utd comes frist by a long way.
It's the fact the whole country gets up for it that pisses me off, all you see is little england flags out the back of cars, and mothers/rugby fans who are suddenly football experts.

United > Country everytime.

I would noly sacrifice the Charity Shield for England winning the World Cup (unless we're playing the dippers though)

Possibly, but it would be pleasure in seeing the likes of Rooney, Rio, Hargreaves etc doing the business, nothing more.

I, we [England supporters on the Caf], are not the ones who have the problem coexisiting.

We'll start a thread or two come an international or some bit of news, discussing the betterment of our cause and such, and forever have it raided by those with agendas and prejudieces [not all of you i admit but a good many]. Spouint insults and abuse or trying to prove their supposed Utd credentials, contributing absolutely nothing constructive whatsoever. Do you see us doing this to other threads? No we do not, indeed, we English supporters on here probably act with more class and dignity than most.

It is of greatest sadness when you see fellow English acting so but you've long ago accepted it unfortunately.

I agree it's tacky but no club/country is going to have a completly street wise support, you only have to go to OT on a match day and have a look at some of the plebs walking around!

I do find the bandwagon jumpers a bit annoying, I had the respect to leave the rugby world cup alone because at the end of the day I aint interested. I think it's shite.

I think it's good that people who don't normally show an interest in football take part in the big tournaments. As long as that aren't preaching on team selections, tactics, spouting shite, etc then they dont realy bother me!

Can't argue with you to be honest, i just would'nt be able to honestly say i follow England passionately.

United. You're saddled with your country, but your club is something more personal, its a part of you. But there is no definitive answer, its down to the individual.

What about from the patriotic point of view!

What about your sense of national pride (if any of you have any?).

I find it hard to have any to be honest. It's a bigger problem than a football one that arguement though...:D

I support England at every major international tournament, and I guarantee that the English amongst you do too, even if you're claiming you don't care about the national team. You just switch off when the World Cup comes around, or maybe even start supporting the French?.

Generally I support whoever England are playing. Especially Argentina.

As do most of the guys I go to United with.

Unless it's escaped you, the Stretford End has a vast array of songs that we sing slagging England off.

Patriotism is fine if that's your reason for picking country over club. Patriotism in general doesn't strike much of a chord with me. Like Bill Hicks said, "It was a round world the last time I checked."

So here's a question: if you had to choose between either united winning the treble or england winning the world cup, which would it be? (to the non united supporting fans, your club winning the treble or england winning the world cup)

For me its united every time.

I'm an Englishman born and bred, yet I'd rather United won the EPL, never mind the treble, than England win the world cup

Nick - I've been to all bar one tournament abroad with England since Euro96. I can tell you that the England fans DO care if the player is employed by United. If he does well, they rarely sing his name. If he does poorly, he gets more abuse than had he played for another team (just ask Phil Neville and David Beckham). I've also seen England fans physically attack Manchester United fans supporting England.

Not even a question is it really?

England winning the WC in isolation would be nice and all but comparing it to anything United win, even the Charity Shield Ralphie, is pointless for me.

I know it's my national team but I feel absolutely no personal connection with it at all. I'd watch it, want them to win it etc, but the feeling if they did bag the WC wouldn't register on the "fecking hell, we're the champions of England and Europe, get fecking in, I'm going on a three day bender" scale.

Well put. And I totally agree

If those who give our players stick when on national duty were here right now, i'd be taking them to task too believe me.

England supporters sing traditional or patriotic songs over player specific ones more oftten tha not, however David Beckham has fought through his previous troubles to become an exception.

I am shocked by your last statement though. An unprovoked attack on fellow England supporters because of their club loyalty? Terrible, mad, were there police on hand?

I have never been away to a major tournament myself, maybe 2010 if we improve and things go our way. I shall report abck and how i find things as and when. :)

Is that a new location line I see there Nick? :D

Full of nob heads.

I'd pick United winning the Vodafone Cup over England winning the World Cup.
