Berbatov

I agree and yes I do watch the pl.

My point is based on Ferguson's comments. If you remember he praised Santa Cruz and said he was a bargain for blackburn. Then the speculation about him being linked with us, so I assume he is a target.

Berba for 25mil??? Debatable.

Why does the fact that Fergie called him a "bargain" make him a target?

The emphasis is price.

Not for 25million. 18million seems a far more honest estimation.

If he is the best option available - why not pay the extra money?

Who has ever made an honest estimation for a player they did not want to sell?

Are we making an honest estimation for Ronaldo?

Now tell me what an honest estimation is and who is obliged to make one.

We need a young, pacy striker, that can get in behind the defence.

Yep, we are not making an honest estimation for Ronaldo, an honest estimation would be around 200m GBP. ;)

oos that then other than Benzema and Villa? I can't decide whether we need the above or a big strong target man...the first would fit in with our style of play better but the latter introduce new options...maybe the criteria are young, pacy, big, strong, great finisher...

and injury free, preferably with great vision and Tevez like attitude and work rate

We dont need a young striker.

You are mixing up football with business.

I don't agree with you either...

We need somebody with the footballing intelligence to mix around our play.

Berbatov

We need pace.

Berbatov is a quality player - not quite as good as some make out
 One would think people have called him a Zidane with such statements....

But I dont think his style suits us at all, so I hope we give him a miss.
Yep. So that we can sign a Villa. Who doesn't suit us in any single way. How clever of you.

He suits us in every way. He gives the mobility and movement we miss without Saha.

He also corrects the fact neither Rooney or Tevez are natural finishers.

Berbatov does neither of these things.

If we can get Manucho on a work permit then the striker I would realistically like us to sign is Villa. Would be amazing playing on the shoulder of the last defender and should hopefully put the ball in the back of the net 9 times out of 10. With Manucho on the bench we then have the option to go route one if things aren't going to plan.

No one else is like Saha, which is just as well really. Villa and Berbatov are both class players, different from each other and different from Rooney and Tevez. And they're probably available for the right price. To some extent, successful teams fit style and tactics around their players so I don't see how top strikers like they are would be ruled out on the basis that they don't fit into the current system. They would both bring something new to the strike force, as would the likes of Eto'o, Benzema and Ibrahimovic. We have little idea of what Ferguson actually has in mind.

That's utter crap. Our forwardline for the past 2 seasons has been the most mobile in the premiership even without Saha fit. To claim Villa would give us "mobilty and movement that we allegedly lack is beyond belief. All Villa offer us that we lack is better, more clincal finishing. We already have pace and movement.

Berbatov does neither of these things.
 Berbatov is a far better finisher than both Tevez and Rooney. Which IS what we need. He is both taller and far stronger than Villa. A thing we also need. His hold up play is fantastic. Exactly the type we need because our lead striker, due to our style, MUST be ace or at worts competent at it.
When it comes to link up play too he is better than Villa.

Frankly Villa doesn't even come close to the Bulgarian when it comes to what we need. You have just let your blind love of Villa mislead you. That you have even attempted to compare what he brings to the table as a player to what Saha does for us. When he is clearly nothing like Saha.

This is a sensible view

No, I'm basing this estimation on what Real has said, that Ronaldo's value for them is 0.5bn.

Don't pick and choose what you believe - Real talk shit/Real don't talk shit.

Surely if you are basing it on what he is worth then Ronaldo is worth far more, unless you think he is going to receive £300 million pounds in wages.

So it isn't directly related to their estimation, which only serves as convenient leverage.

Market value Ronaldo is worth no more than £60 million, whatever Real choose to pay for him because of their/your crazy estimations.

We don't need pace.

We have an abundance of pace.

What we need is options, variations, composure and intelligence.

Berbatov

Our strikers are Tevez and Rooney.

Neither of those two like to play on the shoulder of the last defender, using pace, to get in behind the defence and latch onto through balls. Also, neither are the most clinical finishers in the business.

You say we need 'options', well, we have our players that can play in the hole (Rooney & Tevez) and we have our big target man (Manucho), all we are missing is a really pacy forward that can play up top.

Berbatov is NOT what we need, for a variety of reasons, saying that, he is a very good player.

Since when did Berbatov become Teddy Sheringham in terms of pace, he aint no slouch. He is absolutely top draw in my opinion, would suit us well.

If latching onto through balls and playing the offside trap was only about pace - why was Bellion shit?

It has more to do with intelligence and awareness than anything else, Ruud being a perfect example, there are many others.

The thing you miss is that Berbatov is not a target man, pace man or somebody that plays in the hole - his talent, like Rooneys defies the category or pigeon holes you wish to put them in. He is flamboyant and versatile - like a large part of our team and is the best option available to us at this time.

You have always been against any potential Berbatov transfer, now i sense you warming to Villa - who is playing in front of Torres, my player of the tournament so far. I think we need somebody to release our other potent attackers as opposed to somebody who requires the ball played into them. I do think that Villa would be successful, but, i believe Berbatov would contribute a lot more in other aspects of our attacking game that have often been found wanting.

Because he couldn't play football.

Yes, that plays a big part. But if you're not a pacy player, you're going to struggle to play on the shoulder.

A £30 million, 27 year old is our best option? I don't think so. Yes, he's a good player, a very good player, but not what we need.

I've been very impressed. But he isn't an option in my mind. He'll go for the team ready to bid the most, we simply can't compete with the likes of Chelsea and Madrid in that area.

Ive always said it. Berbatov is a great striker who would do well with us but....30m is a bit too much for him.
