Seriously, though, IK. What happened to the Veloso to Arsenal rumours?
This the first time I am hearing about the rumor.

Its not a much bigger gamble than the one we took on Rooney as an 18 yr old. He wasn't a proven player either.
Plus Berba and Keane have only proven that they are good footballers and definitely not great. They are not going to turn into elite footballers at the age of 28. 30m for Berbatov is definitely overpriced for what he guarantees, its not even a gamble that has a potential for a great return like in the case of Robinho, who is genuinely talented enough to be amongst the top 5 players in the world (if he can fulfill his potential).

Anyone?
34 Million Pounds is a fecking big IF.
Berbatov is already an elite footballer. Robinho might become one.
That is why Robinho is the more over-priced of the two, in a nutshell.
I'm not even sure how the rumours really came about. His agent said something about Juventus, Milan and Arsenal all being interested in him. And he said something about him meeting with a member of the Arsenal technical staff. But then the rumour just died within an hour.
We'll see, biased neanderthal.
But if he does become one, then he won't be overpriced, therefore it's too early to make that judgement, really.

If there was a guarantee he would become one, then you could use that argument. But there's not, so you can't. You don't spend 34 million quid on potential.
Even Rooney and Torres were almost 10 million quid cheaper than that.

He's a good player but an elite striker ?
Berbatov's premiership record -
2006-07: 12 goals in 30 games
2007-08: 15 goals in 33 games
Needs to be doing a lot better to be considered an elite striker.
I rate Tevez higher and will be disappointed if he is benched. His contribution in terms of goals is as good and work rate is far far superior.
I can never understand IK. One moment he comes up with a wonderful post and acts like a WUM the very next moment. He often contradicts with his old posts.

I also rate Tevez but won't compare them until I watch Berbatov in a United shirt. Chances are he will blossom, just like Carrick, Evra, Vidic etc. He's already a fecking excellent striker, if he improves he will be awesome.
He's a Gooner.
For every Vieira and Gilberto, there is a Flamini and Edu.
How many of SAF's big money signings have been poor ? Other than Veron who was a quality player but just didnt suit our league, the others have really been worth the transfer money.
True...I have been more surprised with his tackling than his passing so far.
Hopefully, he comes good and doesn't turn into another Veron.
Yes...but great players always want a challenge and it depends on the manager's ability to convince him. Ronaldinho moved to Barca even though they were shit since Rijkard was able to convince him that the club is moving forward. Arsene and Rafa have done well to convince their main players that they can still compete with Chelsea. Do you think that top players like Henry or Gerrard will continue in this league if they believed they had no chance to win the title ?
SAF's initial success remarkably coincided with a talented set of young players coming out of our academy. Since then he turned little known players and talented youngsters into great footballers. When he bought top players like Veron, RVN & Rio we were the best. They were already convinced that United would be succesful in the future and it wasn't too hard to bring them in. The situation is different now - can he convince a Torres or a Gattuso that we can go from 'also rans' to 'league contenders' once they join?
Yes possible....Roy Keane

Lets hope so...but if we play in a style similar to 05-06 (with Ruud), it will be a waste of talents like Ronaldo, Nani (neither are conventional wingers) and Tevez (who may get benched)
We'll we wont. For Berbatov isn't anything like the Ruud of that era was.Lets hope so...but if we play in a style similar to 05-06 (with Ruud), it will be a waste of talents like Ronaldo, Nani (neither are conventional wingers) and Tevez (who may get benched)
Was not he the one going on how Berbatov would score more goals at United given he is a better finisher?
No...I have hardly posted about Berbatov playing for us or signing for us or how many goals he would score once we signed him.
I may have said that he is better finisher than Rooney, but then again Wayne is really average when it comes to finishing.
It sounded better before you re-wrote it, at least it appeared as joke.
Anyway IK why not write a really positive piece, without stats, on how Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez will operate maybe including how we are going to rip the gunners apart?
I'd have been seriously pissed off if SAF attempted to sign Keane even on a free transfer.
I'm serious.
Just remembered.
Regading a young Robbie Keane, SAF once famously declared he'd pay no more than 500,000 and play him in the reserves.
Why? I mean I'm saying I doubt he said it but what provoked him to say that
Keane for me, plays with his heart on his sleeve. Berbatov plays with one hand on his wallet and the other one on a hanky.
Alan Smith plays with his heart on sleeve too, but it doesn't make him a better player than world class players like berbatov.
