Our lad Ronaldo

his behaviour since his aborted attempt to angle a move to RM has been abysmal.

Sorry but I think thats rubbish.

SAF has actually praised him for this. No toys being thrown out the pram etc, got on with it, worked very hard in training, worked hard on his road to recovery, when he found out SAF would rest him today, demanded to play (according to SAF himself), smiling and joking with the other players in training etc. Even gave an MUTV interview yesterday saying the right things.

Whats the worst? not smiling when playing for us and Portugal? I can live with that

First one down the tunnel again, didn't even look up at the fans.

He's not helping himself is he.

Early days again.

And after hearing Viva Ronaldo for almost 90 minutes a match, to, hardly hearing and songs about him, well he's not deaf is he.

He knows that the same affection isn't there anymore. It'll change though. Well it hope it does. He's too good a player to let go at this stage.

Sorry, but that just sounds like you're reaching for something to be upset about. Think about if you have a bad game, do you look around to people who came to see you play or do you keep your head down and think to yourself you could have done better?

The November issue of World Soccer is published today and features an interview with Cristiano Ronaldo which is bound to attract some attention.

Such is the commercial nature of football these days that the top players are becoming increasingly difficult to interview. Clubs, with their magazines, websites and TV stations, try to restrict access. As do agents and sponsors, who have their own commercial agendas. So it made a refreshing change to be able to spend an hour with Ronaldo in Madeira last month.

I travelled to Funchal, the capital of Madeira to watch Ronaldo receive the ESM Golden Shoe, the annual prize awarded to the leading scorer in Europe's top league. Before the ceremony, I got the opportunity of a lengthy interview.

Surrounded by family and friends – and away from close scrutiny of his club – Ronaldo gave one of his most revealing interviews. He gave his strongest admission yet that he will leave Manchester United at some point in the next few years.

I have to concede that I did not force the admission through persistent questioning. A few minutes into the interview, after a few pleasantries had been exchanged about the Golden Shoe and growing up in Madeira, we moved on to the subject of his early career. I asked about his arrival in Manchester and whether there was a point when he felt comfortable and settled in the city. It was clearly a question about his early days at the club, but his reply was interesting.

He said: “I feel happy in Manchester. My challenge is always to do better than I did the previous season. I'm quite happy there, I like the league, I like the club, but sometimes you want different things in life. You want new challenges. I don't say I want a new challenge this season, but it's always good for your mind, for your career, to have other things to do and other things to win. This is what I try to do. If I stay in Manchester, I try to do the same, I try to win the trophies again.”

It may have been that he misunderstood the question as the whole interview was conducted in English, although Ronaldo's English is much better than my Portuguese. His reply struck me as a pre-prepared answer to questions that he knew he would be asked at some stage in the interview, ie are you happy at Man United? Will you ever leave?

His agent, Jorge Mendes, was in the room with us and made no attempt to correct Ronaldo at any point. Indeed he looked pretty relaxed throughout.

Was it just coincidence that, less than 24 hours before the publication of our interview, United's in-house TV operation MUTV, released an interview with Ronaldo? Speaking to MUTV, he said: “I am an ambitious person, not just in football but in normal life. I have an opportunity to be better than I am and I am always keen to get better. I am still young and I have won things already. But it is not enough. I want to win more. I am at the right club and I am playing with the right players.”

United are rightly protective of their global superstar, especially as his possible departure this summer became a test of Alex Ferguson's authority at the club. But Ronaldo is not Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes, Manchester boys born and bred. He is highly unlikely to spend the rest of his career in Manchester. At some stage in his career he will want a new challenge. In the past six months, he has won the Premier League and Champions League. He is the favourite to win the end-of-year world player awards over the coming months. What challenges are left for Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester?

Preview to an interview Ronaldo has given to this months World Soccer magazine. Make of this what you will.

hes not 100% fit and not happy with his own high standard

i would want to see a player happy to come off!!

He wanted to go in the summer, but we wouldn't let him. It'd hardly be suprising if he struggling due to it now

I've always said he'd get my respect back if he showed renewed committment to the United cause. That's why I thought it was ridiculous the ovation he returned on his return, after this summer. If his attitude and demeanor is down to now wanting to be here, how utterly ridiculous was that show of support? He'd have shown us contempt during the summer, not put the required effort in on his return, and we've welcomed him back like a bloody conquering hero. Would say everything about where much of the United support is sadly at these days. Ronaldo FC

That said, I have no idea what's going on at the moment. It might just be frustration, coupled with his usual showmanship. Could be all manor of factors, and I wouldn't discount a slight unhappyness that he's now playing as an out and out winger again, so Rooney who is in inspired form, and our new big money signing can play together up front. He's not going to score 40 goals again playing out wide. He might not be our top man this season. It's surely a major blow to his ego

It maybe cause he is fecked off at not being granted a move, in which case there is a problem, or it may be simply cause he is unhappy with his own performance right now, in which case I don't see too much wrong. We all feel frustrated and unhappy if we feel that we are underperforming in our respective walks of life.

At least he is working hard and giving full effort during the games.

Just telling it like it is. Whatever the rights, wrongs or truths of what happened over the summer he knows the feeling towards him is tenuous. On Saturday and again tonight when he disappeared first down the tunnel without looking up it pissed off a lot of people. There were a few 'feck off's' from WU204 as people disappeared down the stairs.

Aye, he ain't doing himself any favours right now, seems like he couldn't give a feck about winning over the fans again.

I can't be arsed to sit through that for 5 minutes, did he say why he's first down the tunnel and stopped applauding the fans?

no he didn't thought people might like to see the interview that is all.

No more Viva Ronaldo either if anyone noticed

I didn't hear it once

He didn't give us reason to sing it.

I think we have got the ronaldo stance spot on now.

If he scores he gets his name sung if he doesn't then he needs to do something to make us sing his name.

Seems the hero worship he was receiving last season has transferred to rooney and rightly so.

Last summer he was tapping along with Caledron and got distracted in the due course. It took two years and half for Ronaldo to reach the level he's now and needs to concentrate more if he hopes to regain his touch back. Football dosent really come easy even to the gifted ones and Ronaldo is no exception.

Don't really care for off-field distractions for the moment but judging Ronaldo only on pitch form he is still below par that's for sure. But a bit of light under the tunnel in that he worked his socks off today and he looked a lot better against Celtic than against West Brom.

why is it sad. Its never sad when a cnut leaves. Like GW Bush, I'm counting the days.

Show some respect you tool. Anyone wearing that Utd jersey deserves support - after what he did last season for us he deserves MORE.
True he wanted to leave in the summer and conducted himself in a silly manner, but at the end of the day Sir Alex decides that he'll stay What's good enough for SAF is good enough for me.

The lad will come good. He's not fully fit, and he's had a dip in form. He had an indifferent start to the season last year as well, but was unplayable from November until May. He'll be great again.

Viva Ronaldo

cheers to you sir. VIVA RONALDO!!!! till you leave mate will never forever forget the goals he scored for us last year and the year before!!

I thought the lad played very well yesternight, the only thing missing were the goals. They will come back. Everything does and some of you lot are reading way too much into his facial expressions. On the pitch, he still looks as hungry as ever, he looks determined, committed and all of that bollocks usually attributed to the likes of Smith and Rooney. Once he scores in succession, the smile will come back, no doubt about it.

Conspiracy theories , god leave the man alone he is unhappy not because of not going to Madrid but his performances are down from last year , he sets himself high standards and has yet to reach them thus making him unhappy. Some fans do go over board with Ronaldo. Just glad he is still with us.

Something's not right with Ronaldo definitely but too much is being made of it. Quite a few players didn't applaud the fans walking down the tunnel. Vidic definitely didn't. It didn't help half the stadium was empty by then.

Also when I was waiting for the train outside, Rooney was the first one to leave OT and refused to sign autographs. Make of that what you will Caf drama queens.

Would have been nice if he'd shown the fans a bit of respect in the summer eh?

He's unhappy because he wanted to leave. Because the fans don't love him anymore and because his level of play has been (by his standards) rubbish.

If United were offered 100mil for this lad they should have took it when they had the chance.

His price will be dropping with every average performance which is basically every game he doesn't score in.

The worst thing is for United that it doesn't matter if he's brilliant for the rest of the season or rubbish because he will be at madrid next season either way.

Well that's bollocks. He's been above average in most of his games so far and he's only getting back to form.

If he's brilliant for us this season it'll have a huge effect on our season, so it matters just ever so slightly.

A fair point, if he is brilliant he will have an impact on the season but it doesn't matter with regards to the season after. He's gone.

And i really don't think he's been above average this season at all yet. I can't remember one good performance from him. All very average. Maybe i'm being too critical but if you are the well touted "BPITW!" i would expect more than just average to above average. I would fully expect, good, great, brilliant and awesome to be used more often than not but right now these are the words reserved for Rooney and Ronaldo is barely "above average".

Is that a fact, or a (poorly;)) calculated guess?

You would expect more, we all do, he does himself. But clearly he takes a while to get back into his stride. His instinctive movement and finishing has been evident so far since he's gotten in three one-on-ones with the keeper and scored one and he's already scored 3 goals, all the while with 3 assists and some incisive passes. That's above average to me.

I thought he was superb at times yesterday with his passing and movement, some bad decisions here and there, but I thought he was excellent overall.

You would. I watched the game with a lot of impartial football fans. Obviously you think i hate Ronaldo but even my mates thought he was poor. Could hardly beat a man, went to ground at any sign of contact and was very wasteful with the ball. (shot at every oppertunity)
