Rafael

The last few games hes not been getting forward as much and hasnt caught the eye. i know hes a work in progress but i hope his attacking instincts arent curtailed too much. vidic can defend for the pair of them.

Most likely the instructions from Fergie, that he should really focus on defending first and improve that part of his game. He will bomb forward once he improved his decision making, his defending and matures more

Yup. I have no problem with him being a little too overly defensive for a while. As he feels more and more comfortable in the job he'll start giving his attacking instincts more reign.

If I remember correctly Evra did exactly the same. A little too attacking at first, he then made a deliberate effort to stay back and get his defending into gear. And as he felt more confident in the role he slowly started attacking more and more until he is the unstoppable force that he is today.

If Rafael (and Fabio) go the same route, I certainly won't complain.

He was brilliant going forward, if only that ended up in the net

Still suspect defensively, but still better than fletch in that aspect

He was very good tonight, deserved a goal and really should have scored.

The boy is gonna be class :D

Was great going forward. Some one needs to tell him though that being a great defender doesnt mean you slide in at every opportunity; just ask Rio..

Proper mature performance by him today, positioning looks like it's improving, but Giggs & Berbatov helped him out all match, lovely stuff.

Got to say his composure for one his age is second to none, I've not seen anything like it in ages (Edit: Fabregas a few years ago comes to mind, other than that, nil)

Another solid match.

Thought he was quite poor today, and his positioning was certainly not good. Numerous times he was caught horribly out of position, and then either had to throw himself into a tackle or, more often, horribly miss an interception.

thought he was pretty good too. Most of the game he stayed on his feet. He attacked well and defended well too

If I had a girlfriend, I'd probably let the Silva twins double team her

Might be why I don't have one, come to think of it...

This statement shows you paid no sttention until the last 5 minutes.

His tackling was proper, he intercepted passes and crosses all match, and he had more touches than Paul Reubens.

Proper match, mature performance, good to see faith still in him with Brown back.

He played very well.

Wasn't he against a big bastard too? Never really noticed, he was THAT good.

He was caught out of position twice the whole game, Rio covered him easily. Rafael is an unbelievable prospect, it's hard to imagine how good he will be in two or three years time.

Eh?

He was fantastic today.

Agree, even I thought he was pretty great and I'm still one of his biggest critics.

Needs to get that diving in sorted out some time along the line but he only ever dove in once unnecessarily.

I agree that his positioning was his weakness today. Giggs had to play on the right just to help him out which limited him a bit. Still, it was a good performance for an 18 year old. He's a real talent

Got beat a couple of times on defense, but didn't put a foot wrong going forward. Not a single misplaced pass that I can remember. Dribbled around tacklers with ease, several times, drew about four corners and two dangerous free kicks. Tremendous poise considering that not only is he 18, but this is his first season as a professional footballer. Kid looks like he's been here for years.

I remember one bad pass and the yahoo stats confirm that he made 53 successful passes out of 54 attempted. Which is pretty good.

Needs to be a little calmer when he gets the ball played back to him in defence, saw a few paniky clearances today and in other matches, and just needs to cut out some of the needless last ditch lunges, only puts us under pressure when he misses them.

Other than that, couldn't be happier with the lad, top little player.

Aye, noticed that myself.

Pretty uncharacteristic of him though, he's as comfortable on the ball as anyone in the team so it doesn't make sense that he just hoofs it away at any chance.

Possibly just something he learned as part of defending in Brazil, should be sorted within a year.

Not wholey uncharacteristic, as I said I have noticed it in other games, but yes, nothing to particularly worry about he will improve no doubt, he's too good not to.

I like the role reversal btw Brwned.

No, I mean it's uncharacteristic of his general composure on the ball. But then again he does play at 100 mph in everything he does so maybe it's just something he naturally does.

I know, I could so easily say you're just being overly critical, he's only 18 for christ's sake! How times have changed. :D

You've not been on here in ages though, 'tis a shame. The Caf's missed you.

I thought he was great. I think he's been absolutely magnificent all season. What a player we have on our hands. The kids no age, he's barely ever played first team football, he's moved to a different continent... I cannot believe how easily he's slotted in. Given they don't seem to teach it to full backs in Brazil, he's bloody good at the back considering, albeit he still needs plenty of work. But I mean he's been put in today for one of our toughest games of the season, West Ham looked plenty dangerous when they did come forward, and he absolutely looked the part

And the best news of the lot... there's two of em!!!

Nice of you to say Brwned.

As for Raf, I love the kid, as you know, his brothers a bit special too.

Happy fecking days

My idiodic thoughts, but I think he needs players like Park or Giggs, who are both good at defending and attacking at the same time. In my little amount of observations from the past, it seems to me that his exposure was usually covered by wingers from what I've seen.

He played already.

I expect Rafael and Fabio to both start against Derby next week.
So far just in the Reserves, but maybe you're right about Derby. Just realized he was on the bench today, so he must be healthy.
