What the hell..............................

As I said, Dare I?

Take note the fact Evans & O'Shea is out in my line-up :nono:

It's not at all what I think would happen, I was hoping to get some discussion on it but it brought a spaz

Travelling squad
Goalkeepers: Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak.
Defenders: Ferdinand, Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Fabio, Eckersley.
Midfielders: Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Possebon, Gibson, Fletcher, Ronaldo.
Forwards: Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez, Welbeck.

Well, O'Shea and Evans made it, but where is Rafael?

This is weird.

Fabio should be able to play right back though? Being right-footed and all.
That is if O'Shea/Evans are unfit to play.

VDS

Fabio
Rio
O' Shea/Evans
Evra

Park
carrick
Giggs
Fletch
Ronaldo

Rooney

this is the line up as i see it....

rooney up front on his own... giggs and ronny to support

Assuming that is a squad of fit players:

Van Der Sar
O'Shea-Ferdinand-Evans-Evra
Fletcher
Rooney-Carrick-Giggs-Ronaldo
Rooney

Park in a shout of course, but I cannot see us not playing 4-5-1

Nightmare scenario for Manchester United defence: James Ducker

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_united/article5786932.ece

Manchester United are wrestling with a defensive injury crisis before the first leg of their Champions League tie in the first knockout round against Inter Milan at the San Siro tomorrow that Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager, described as “a nightmare”.

Ferguson has stated that his present squad is the strongest he has had during his 22½year reign at Old Trafford, but those claims are likely to be put firmly to the test against Inter as the United manager prepares to face José Mourinho’s Italian champions without as many as six defenders.

United were always going to have to do without Nemanja Vidic, who is suspended as a consequence of his red card against Liga de Quito in the Club World Cup final in Yokohama, Japan, in December, but Ferguson’s options have been further reduced by an untimely spate of injuries.

Wes Brown has been ruled out for around a month with a damaged metatarsal and Gary Neville (virus/muscle problem) is unavailable, while there are also serious doubts about the fitness of John O’Shea (heel) and Jonny Evans, who limped out of United’s 2-1 victory at home to Blackburn Rovers in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday with a recurrence of an ankle injury that recently kept him out for 3½ weeks. To compound matters, James Chester, 20, United’s only other fit, recognised centre half, who is on a month’s loan at Peterborough United, has not been included in United’s Champions League squad and so cannot be called upon.

Evans was being closely monitored by United’s medical staff yesterday, but if he or O’Shea fail to recover in time, Ferguson will have no option but to play someone out of position as a central defender.

Although Edwin van der Sar, the goalkeeper, who was rested against Blackburn, will return in place of Tomasz Kuszczak, only Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra of United’s first-choice back four are available, while Ferguson could also opt to play Darren Fletcher at right back instead of Rafael Da Silva after the Brazilian’s inexperience showed during an unconvincing performance against Blackburn. If Evra is asked to move into central defence, Fábio Da Silva could be deployed at left back, but whatever the scenario, the injury crisis could not have been more poorly timed, coming before arguably United’s most important game of the season.

“I hope we can get two centre backs out because at this moment it’s very doubtful,” Ferguson said. “Jonny Evans is unlikely to be playing. I just hope we get John O’Shea available because we don’t have Vidic, we don’t have Gary Neville and we don’t have Wes Brown.

“We’re having a nightmare with defenders this season in terms of injuries and suspensions. Hopefully we can patch up [a defence] for Inter because it does leave us very, very short.”

VDS
Fletcher - Rio - Evans/O'Shea - Evra
Ronaldo - Carrick - Giggs - Park
Rooney - Berba

I wouldn't be surprised to see this line-up.

Reckon Sir Alex will produce at least one surprise/debatable decision when it comes to the starting XI, just not quite sure what it'll be.

1-2

so hard to predict this line-up

the defence should be:

O'Shea - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra

other than that, I think the only certainty is that it's one from Giggs and Scholes

Why didn't Rafael travel?

Protect that with Fletcher, Carrick and Park and play the treble upfront.

Dont know why but i think Tevez seems like a better option than Berbs from the start, one is a hell more fast and thats what we need against them to hold them back instead of letting them relax with slow motion Berba.

I thought Park used to play some Right Back b4 in PS Einhoven

Am hoping that both Evans and O'Shea can make it, and if they do, got a feeling it will be 433, and maybe like this

VDS
O'Shea-Ferdinand-Evans-Evra
Fletcher-Carrick-Giggs
Park-Ronaldo-Rooney

And Anderson played LB @ Porto.

Dont think these will come into play, if push comes to shove Fletcher will be @ Rightback, he's done it before for matches.

Where's Kieran Richardson when you need him?

complete bollocks

Apparently Mourinho has revealed the name of 9 players who will start for Inter.

Cesar
Maicon - X - X - Santon
Zanetti - Cambiasso - Muntari
Stankovic
Ibrahimovic - Adriano

Chivu and Cordoba most likely to be in the defense as well.

Line up that i would love to see :

-------------Vds------------
Rafael----Rio---Evans----Evra
Park--Carrick---Flecther--Ronaldo
-------------Giggs------------
-------------Rooney----------

If Both Evans and Rafael are Out then i'd expect we'd field this team :

--------------Vds--------------
Flecther---Rio---O'Shea---Evra-
Rooney--Carrick---Scholes--Park
-------------Giggs--------------
--------------------------------
-----------------Ronaldo--------

complete bollocks

aye, Berbatov is certainly not slow, I think his lazy style gives that illusion but he's got decent pace. But Tevez would be great at harassing them and his work-rate can be very much needed, as it was against Barca.

I think we'll come away with a 1-1. Even a 2-1 loss won't be that bad as I'm sure we'll do the business at home.

We have 2 options here. We can either go all out attack and hope to out score Inter, very dangerous tactic but we maybe forced into it with our injury problems.

Or we could do the reverse and play an ultra defensive setup and try and get a stalemate. Personally a 2-1 loss would be no disaster if Evra and Rio are the only defenders fit.

How good is Santon? Is he their 'Rafael/Fabio'? He didn't seem very adventurous against Milan last week but seemed decent defensively. Could see Fergie asking Ronaldo to run at him, although he could do some damage with Evra against Maicon as well.

I said yesterday that there is no way that Berbatov would be dropped for Tevez. Now I read that our backline is further decimated by Rafael's absence.

It wouldn't be a shock to see Tevez and Rooney partner one another in all honesty. We need to be working like blue arsed flies from the front in order to protect a patched up backline. I don't buy into the whole Berba-lazy argument, but there is no doubting that Tevez's workrate goes into overdrive.

We'll see, but we are facing an uphill battle really.

If we really had no centrebacks, I really reckon that Rooney would make a good centreback. He's hard, determined and very responsible. Vidiv can go for the aerial challenges and Rooney can pass the ball upfront a la Rio. He's always stated that he would play anywhere. I remember Keano doing a fantastic job at centreback for us against juventus in the Champs League and he was the MOM

Best RB in the world v Best LB in the world...

Will be really intersting....

According to the United site, both Evans and O'Shea have travelled.

Please let this be brinkmanship on SAF's part.

I'd be very, very comfortable with:

Oshea-Ferdinand-Evans-Evra
