Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur

I'd much rather want us to win at Newcastle on Wednesday, so I hope Ferguson gives the likes of Carrick, Ronaldo, Scholes, Berbatov, Ferdinand and Evra a well deserved break.

Gibson for Carrick
Tevez for Berbs
Vida for Rio

The rest can play

Its a cup final, we werent playing so many games for nothing, lets win this

4-0

Ronaldo x2
Tevez
Nani
I see that many posters on here seem to think it will be an easy, nailed on win for MUFC. I imagine many Chelsea supporters thought the same about their team last year.

If we lose it will be because we play our reserves.

I would hope we go with Van Der Sar instead of one of the two goalkeepers, I believe in rewarding the players who've got us to this final, but our goalkeepers in this competition have conceded only 3 less goals than van der Sar has in the Premiership. All they have proven is how good they are at picking the ball out of the back of the net.

He's right you know. I am not gonna underestimate Tottenham at all. They are capable of beating us and its a cup final after all so anything can happen. But I believe in the quality of our squad and they can surely deliver a winning performance for us no matter what changes occur to the team.

------------- Foster -------------
- Neville - Vidic --- Evans - Fabio -
Ronaldo - Gibson -- Scholes - Nani
---------- Tévez - Rooney -------

Subs: Van der Sar; O'Shea, Ferdinand; Carrick, Fletcher; Welbeck, Berbatov.

Hard to pick a team for this really..

What is the criteria you have to meet to get a medal for this competition?

I'd hate to see players like Park, Giggs, Van der Sar, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Berbatov etc miss out on a medal because they're not chosen.. (Though credit to the young lads if they can win and get a medal themselves).

HELP!

Anyone know if the final is repeated after on MUTV or similar?

I made a glaring school-boy error of arranging a date with a girl a few weeks back without checking fixtures.

Chances are I might catch the end, but I'd rather watch the whole game without knowing the score later in the evening.

All help appreciated

Rearrange the date with the girl.

Cool cheers. Got a feeling I won't be able to avoid hearing the score on Monday.

I have to maybe devise some way of recording it. Hmmm. Or convincing the girl its the only way!

VdS and Berbatov haven't played in the competition.

Appearances in the LC this year, sub appearances in brackets - I think these are accurate! Then my guess about the team

Foster 2 Kuszczak 2 - I'd guess Foster

Raf 5 Neville 3 Brown 1 - the fittest one, let's say Rafael

Vidic 2 (1) Brown 1 Evans 4 - but with the injuries I'm guessing Vidic and O'Shea

Evra (1) O'Shea (5) - Fabio! no reason, I just think it might be

Ronaldo 1 (2) Park 1 - I reckon it'll be Ron

Gibson 4 (1) Carrick (1) Anderson 5 Possebon 3 Scholes 1 (1) Fletcher (1) Giggs 3 - Gibson and Scholes - I think Anderson won't be fit enough and SAF will want some experience, I don't think Giggs is up for two games in a week.

Nani 5 - Nani

Tevez 4 (1) Rooney 0 (1) Welbeck 3 (1) - Tevez and Rooney and Welbeck will be first forward/winger sub

Hmmm, that's 8 changes, maybe Evra or Rio will play, perhaps even Carrick. Lucky I don't have to bet money on this lineup thing.

Yep

I think SAF won't go too overboard and maybe just play Foster, Gibson and one more fringe player. Redknapps rested his entire first team this week. It would be foolish to put out too much of a weak side. Remember our failures in the past in this competition have come when SAF has chucked 11 players onto the pitch who aren't all used to playing each other

Foster

Fabio/Neville
Evans
Vidic
O'Shea

Welbeck
Gibson
Scholes
Nani

Rooney
Tevez

would be my team.

Here is how games our players have played in the CC so far:
(note its not a perfect list, as I didnt count a couple of v.late subs on, and discounted a few people like Amos and Manucho who wont be starting for sure)

Ben Foster 2 starts, Tomasz Kuszczak 2 , Gary Neville 2, John O'Shea 5, Jonny Evans 3, Rafael da Silva 5, Nemanja Vidic 2 , Wes Brown 1, Patrice Evra 0+1 sub, Darron Gibson 4+1 sub, Paul Scholes 1+1, Rodrigo Possebon 3 (but no part in either of the Derby games), Darren Fletcher 0+1 , Michael Carrick 0+1 , Nani 5, Anderson 5, Park Ji-Sung 1 , Ryan Giggs 3, Carlos Tevez 4+1 , Danny Welbeck 3+1, Cristiano Ronaldo 1+2 (the start was when he was returning from injury) , Wayne Rooney 0+1

SAF said he was sticking to the players who have played in the competition so far. So, judging by this and who played against Inter, I'd say the team will be:

Foster

Vidic
Evans
O'Shea

+fullback. Whoever is fit basically. One of Brown, Gaz or Fabio. If none are deemed fit enough (or ready to play in Fabio's case), then Evra to start. He'd be my personal choice to be honest.

Gibson
Scholes/Anderson - depending on Anderson's fitness. I expect that one will be subbed off for the other during the game.

Nani
Tevez
Welbeck

+1 other attacker. I would have said Giggs to captain the side but he played the full 90 in Milan. Personally, I'd like to see Rooney lead the side out as captain. Giggs to be subbed on and lift the trophy.

Bench: PIG, Fabio/Evra, whichever other defender is fit, Possebon, Anderson/Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs.

assuming evans,rafael,brown are injured
f0ster
nev-vidic-Oshea-fabio
fletcher-gibson-scholes
welbeck-tevez-nani

spuds will be up for it .. strongest possible side + their more important game this season (they wont be in a relegation fight)

wont be easy .. hope the youngsters have a good game

We wont play 433.

We never play 433.

We play 442 or 4231, which is basically the same thing anyway.

We play two wingers. Always.

Grates me when people post a 433 formation.

a 4-2-3-1 can be a 4-3-3 if scholes plays ahead of the other two central midfielders and welbeck and nani play wide with tevez as the central striker

or you can call it a 4--5-1
i think there is a good chance we will play 3 central midfielders if gibson stats (which fergie said he would) considering spuds will almost certainly play a 5 man midfield
nani and welbeck to provide the width

Scholes sits deeper than Carrick these days.

We're playing against Spurs. We dont need 3 central midfielders.

Spurs for fecks sake.

Tevez as a lone striker. Jaysus. God. No.

I agree. Can't see 4-3-3 being used in the final. However, Rooney not starting on Tuesday and Giggs already playing this week, in addition to Rafael and Anderson picking up injuries has made predicting the final line up difficult. Giggs has been almost ever present in this League cup run so I expected him to start the final with the other CC regulars in attack(Nani, Tevez and Welbeck) and Scholes to come in for Anderson and be paired with Gibson. Not sure now as Rooney is the one big player who did not start on Tuesday and Giggs very rarely starts two in a week. Fergie must be tempted to play Giggs though after the form he has shown in the CC, arguably been our best player in the competition and Rooney has only made the one sub appearance in the semi final.

The defence for the CC has largely been based on four of Rafael, Gary Nev, JOS, Evans and due to injuries Vidic starting making up the back four. I'd expect the defence to contain three of these players and probably Fabio with Rio and Evra not featuring. Fergie must be tempted to rest JOS for similar reasons to Giggs but JOS is another ever present in the CC this season so deserves to play some part in the final.

I remember Fergie promised Gibson place in a cup final team and I know it's time for Foster to play in a goal. These players are sure of playing at Wembley on Sunday and I hardly believe there are going to be more youngers in our team.

I don't know what can I expect on Welbeck and Anderson. I can't see Welbeck playing as a striker, because it's important to have all our main strikers match-fit. Berbatov probably will be rested and for me, it's Rooney and Tevez at Wembley. Rooney played only 10 minutes on Tuesday, Tevez didn't even come on the pitch. Danny Welbeck was impressive when he played as a winger against Southampton or Tottenham in FA Cup, I don't remember clearly. So, it should be Welbeck and probably Nani on the other wing. I would like also to see Anderson, because I really miss him, very good player, but often injuried. And about Evans... Ferguson said in a post match interview that he got a knock.

Sure of playing on Sunday can be Gibson and Foster. Fergie may consider also Welbeck, Anderson and Evans. Rest of the team have to be the strongest. That's a cup final!

Anderson proves cup final fitness

Fri 27 Feb, 10:00 AM

Anderson may have played himself into Manchester United's Carling Cup final squad with a reserve-team run-out against Manchester City. The former FC Porto star has been an ever-present in United's run to Wembley, where they will face Tottenham on Sunday, but has been sidelined since being stretchered off after the final whistle of the second-leg of the semi-final against Derby last month.

Ten days ago, Sir Alex Ferguson expressed doubts that Anderson would have recovered from his ankle injury in time to face Harry Redknapp's men.

However, Anderson managed to get through the first-half of Thursday's 2-1 win without a problem and providing he suffers no reaction, should play some part in the weekend showpiece even if it is as a substitute.

Fabio Da Silva could also be involved after featuring for an hour, while Zoran Tosic completed the full 90 minutes.

If Rafael is out, i would really like to see Fabio get a chance.

It's a cup final Tevez and Rooney for me with Welback on the bench.

Rafael is out for a month so O'Shea will probably go at RB, and we could play Fabio at LB. If Evans isn't fit, then it'll be Rio/Vidic at centre-back but if Evans can play, then he'll play with Vidic I reckon.

I think if Fabio starts it will be at right back, there's no other plausible explanation for him featuring at RB and Eckersley at LB last night in the Reserves. He only played an hour too, I have a sneaky suspicion that Fabio will be at right back and maybe O'Shea at left back.

I reckon Fergie will go with:

Foster
O'Solid Evans Vidic Fabio
Wellbeck Gibson Scholes Nani
Tevez Rooney

But if Neville is fit then him at RB and O'Solid at LB.

Okaay, Ferige has said that Neville, Gibson, Anderson, Welbeck and Evans will play in the final. Doubt they'll all start but if they are, I'm suspecting this:

Foster
Neville-Evans-Vidic-Fabio
Ronaldo-Anderson-Gibson-Nani
Welbeck-Tevez

good lineup
good team
good final
better than nothing trophy.

I would rest VDS, Giggs, Rio, Berbatov and Evra.

XI: -------------------- Foster -----------------------
Neville ------- Vidic -------------- Evans ------ O´Shea
Ronaldo ---- Scholes ------------- Gibson -------- Nani
------------ Welbeck ------------ Tevez --------------

Bench: Kuszczak, Fabio, Possebon, Fletcher, Anderson, Park, Rooney

Starting 11

----------Foster

-Fabio Vidic Evans O'Shea

Ronaldo Gibson Scholes Nani

-------Welbeck Tevez

Subs
Kuszczak
Neville
Fletcher
Anderson
Giggs
Park
Rooney

I would go with this team. Those who have played a major part in the Carling Cup run will get a start, while there is enough quality on the bench if we need it. Fabio can replace Rafael at RB. Bearing in mind we have a game in midweek against Newcastle, a few first teamers are left out.

A trophy is a trophy, hope Fergie picks a strong squad, id like to See Rooney and Tevez to start , Ronaldo on the bench.
