Manchester United vs FC Porto

I hope Fergie gives them something to think about for the second half. Its been very flat and lethargic from most of our players. We need to get over this blip quickly because it could cost us. Im looking for much improvement from on and we better ensure we win this game.

Word, cant say i agree with Nani tho...

Park's been poor, and i'd rather we have a genuine winger out wide. Plus he should be up for it considering he's a portugeezer.

Christ.

We deserve to be level on the balance of things, maybe one goal down if you're going to be overly critical, not 3 or 4 goals down though.

I disagree. We've been that awful. They managed 3 shots in the first 6 minutes scoring from one....

Someone tell me wtf has happened to our passing, we're giving the ball away so cheaply at the moment, it's maddening.

Get Macheda on please.

Getting Macheda in will improve our passing?? Very strange knee jerk there!

United fans know that keep believing in our team always pays off! So there.. have some faith, we will win this one!

It wouldn't have helped at all though, would it?

It would've been nice to see, but it wouldn't have changed anything.

Who knows ? Using his pace he might have been in position to put pressure on Rodriguez, or maybe even get the ball, it certainly would have helped.

Andy Townsend can feck RIGHT OFF blaming Ronaldo for their goal.

He is sprinting forwards, attempting to start a counter attack. Is he meant to suddenly stop, spin on his heels, run half the length of the pitch in about 2 seconds and tackle someone? feck off, just feck off.

Anyone who blames Ronaldo for their goal is an absolute retard.

I don't think he was blaming Ronaldo for the goal, it was a comment based on the fact that Ronaldo didn't react the way someone like Rooney would. It was there for everyone to see. He just stopped. He may not run back to make the tackle, but running back means you're in a defensive position should your services be required.

He wasn't however at fault for the goal

the swarming defense by porto is causing trouble. we get the ball, they're on us. they get the ball and we back up. we need to pressure the ball more and cause them to turn it over.

Well I don't think you can only blame Ronaldo in this match. Apart from Rooney everyone has given the ball away with no response.

True that. Normally our centre midfield is so quick to close down, but Scholes and Carrick are getting nowhere near the Porto midfield. Fletch has been great but has spent most of the half on the right hand side.

O'shea, scholes, park, carrick non existant

Evans mistake for the goal. Ronaldo first but evans should have controlled it or played it simple to scholes. he paniced and never recovered

There was one break, we'd already conceded and the players were JOGGING back.

Honestly I'm livid with some of the lads. At least people like rooney have the fecking desire to track back.

We're very lucky not to be atleast 3 goals down

agree. worse i've seen in a while. Only VDS, Rooney and Fletch up for it. And someone tell Ronaldo football is a contact sport. And why does he think he's now exempt from tackling back? Maddening ! Wake up guys !

Scholes and Park both seem to have lost their first touch. Park has done a round trip to Korea in the last week so his may be stuck in customs. No idea where Scholes' has gone too.

Fletcher and Carrick should stay in the middle with Ronnie on one wing and Nani on the other. Put Rooney up front with Tevez (or Kiko...or am I jumping on-board the hype train before it has left the station??).

Plus...we need Rio back ASAP

Thats exactly what i'd do. Except probably not Nani on the right, their left back has been excellent and Oshea not so good. And yes Rooney could do with some support.

Park off, macheda on. Yes, I'm serious.

Usually Park is one of the players i always think is up for it but the opening 45 he looked really out of it... I would like to see Kiko on but i am more worried about our shape, we started with a 433 and that didnt work so we went 442 but the personal we had out doesnt play 442 well.

That's about 6 games since we have lost the plot and do not look like regaining it any moment.... i seriously can't understand what's gone wrong, surely it can't be a lack of confidence or belief.... Comeonnn United !!!!!

Bollocks he isn't.

It's alright, it's the in thing to shaft park for any shortcomings that Scholes, Carrick, O Shea, Evra and Evans may have had tonight.

On a side note I'm quite impressed at Sheasy's foward play tonight. It's good that the lads know that they can always pass it outside on the right because John's going to be there.

Now if only he could cut the errors out, although why should he when theyre so popular with the rest of the team.

Hairdryer will get us sorted, we will win this comfortably, 3-1

But we have to stop fecking around and get some form back pronto for the league.

Very strange, where is our midfield? No one, and that includes Fletcher, has done anything. Evens is off form as well. Why is everyone slipping and sliding? They really should get the correct foot wear.↲↲

as for our passing are we playing in red or that grey kit? We just don't seem to find our own players.

Fletcher is having a fine game but he can't do it on his own.

Scholes and Carrick are having bad games, and when your two crucial midfielders are off the pace it affects the whole team.

What game are you watching Brwned? We've been terrible, absolutely terrible.

Credit to Porto for getting their tactics spot and and being first to every single ball.

I just think its mental tiredness

Well I hope that was just the case, but I thought he was implying that Ronnie was at fault, with his comment that "we saw at the weekend against Villa, where he gave the ball away and didnt defend when Villa scored" or something to that effect. Certainly, I think the ABUs watching will view it that way.

Come on United!

Fergie agrees, they've pressed very well.

They're different sort of players, deal with it.

People are acting as if its something very new. We've done great playing this way and THIS is not the problem today.

Different sort of players refering to technical ability and style but tracking back is an "attitude" you fecking pleb so dont go telling me to "deal with it"

If you're content with a bad attitude then go and fecking support another team ye bollox

It has to be the pressure. They are just mentally tired. I know they are professionals, etc, but they have to perform at 100% or more each game. They are not robots, so a slump like this is inevitable. No idea what can help turn it around. Down to SAF and co. to sort them out.

feck me half time goes quick when you spend it chatting on RedCafe

it's been about that long ago that teams have decided to attack United and take their chances.

FFS, he then went on to comment on how we weren't bothered to run back and the ones in blue did and all you could see was more and more red shirts to the point you had the original 3 on 3 plus 4 reds and no new blues on the fecking screen.

Twat.

Yep, exactly.

Although I think everyone's being harsh on Scholesy. He's given the ball away stupidly quite a few times, but he's been one of the few players to show any sort of desire to take the game into his own hands, he shown he was ready to step up to the plate and start to control the game for a period.

The tendency to play like that started with Inter at OT. Most fans tried to explain it with the individual performances of this ot that player (Scholes, Berbatov, Vida, Carrick, Tevez etc.) but IMO the truth is that the whole team is going through a crisis. Hopefully, we will overcome it sooner than later.

Well he's misplaced passes more than given it away in the middle - I mean you don't want either but a misplaced forwards pass generally doesn't have as catastrophic potential.

Id rather Rooney stick to playing up front.

The last thing you need is a lone striker wasting his energy tracking back and giving away a freekick in a dangerous area.

You've misunderstood my point. I'm talking about the attitude of getting back and running your fecking gut off - not that he is to blame. I cannot justify someone picking and choosing when they dig out whether it's in football, a building site, working in a pub......whatever. It's an attitude thing

Agreed, there's been spells today that are far worse than anything we produced against Liverpool, Fulham or Villa. I'd really hoped the win against Villa
might have rejuvenated the team a bit, but we still look clueless. It's impossible to think this is the same team that went so many games without even looking like conceding, and now we're defensively shambolic...
