Malaysia XI v Manchester United 2

Both of the friendlies so far have been tactical matches, with very little showboating and party tricks.

Congratulations to Twisted Woody. 22 comments in this thread altogether. 14 negative, the other 8 weren't regarding the action on the pitch.

its a preseason friendly ffs...
Theyr'e all fat and thirsty, its understandable!

True, but I expected more from Berba and Rooney. Roon did well but seemed to falter a bit in the final third. I've watched United's preseason almost every year (in recent years) and I can say they are usually more high tempo with more goals.

I'm having one of those days, what do you want from me? To be Captain Optimistic all the time?

Victory!

All about fitness at this stage. We'll learn alot more when we go to Munich

Those matches will tell us where the squad is in terms of overall fitness and chemistry.

Muppetry aside - I am concerned about the attack. It's essentially been gutted with the departures of Ronaldo and Tevez. Berbatov is a question mark. Owen looks decent but we'll see if he's consistent. Macheda isn't EPL quality just yet. Welbeck, we'll have to wait and see I guess since he's at the U 19's.

I think if you compare it with Liverpool's 180 minutes with no goals, no ideas (even though their Spanish contingent is missing), and them being the principal threats, I'd say we are a shoo in for the Premier League.

But that's now how it works now, is it? :D

If Liverpool didn't have their Spanish contingent doesn't that mean that 50%+ of the team is missing?

If you really are basing those concerns on the very first two games of pre-season then I'm afraid it's impossible to put muppetry aside. All we've seen from these games is that Owen and Macheda both look sharp and up for it, while Rooney and Berbatov are both a bit rusty but still capable of opening the opposition up. Oh noes.

Any news on Fabio? Shoulder again? :nervous:

No crap England manager or ageing model jokes please.

I'm basing it on the obvious. We've had an attack of Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Saha/Berba for the past 2-3 years.

All of a sudden two pieces of that attack are gone, and new pieces introduced. It's going to take time to gel.

What's any of that got to do with today's game? Like I said, 2 goals in 2 games from Michael Owen - and a goal from Macheda today - should be reason to be optimistic, not an excuse for another moan.

Oh dear. "Edna" on MUTV post-game phone-in, who sounds about 100 years old, is saying how she is heartbroken that Tevez has gone but not bothered about that Ronaldo who got Rooney sent off in the World Cup and how she never forgave him...

Well at least we now know Tevez's Mum's actual name.

In Fergie's post-match interview, he was praising Macheda and said that's why we're not in the market (because he is good enough now).

It has nothing to do with todays game. I was just making a comment. Calm down calm down.

second pre-season game in 80 degree heat with high humidity and about 18 substitutions.

Thought we looked a bit fitter and sharper than the previous game, but due to the conditions we died badly as it went on.

Anyone taking too much out of these first few games regarding our chances in the premiership is going way too far.

When we play Valencia at OT that is when we can start really looking to see how our first eleven is shaping up.

Great to see Carrick and Fletcher back today, they will be the driving force of our team next season I'm sure.

Like Nani from what I've seen in these 2 friendlies. Having in mind Obertan and Valencia, I think we could very well cope with the winger spot.

However is it me or Scholes looks like a complete whack? He never seemed going especially in the first match. I understand it's the preseason and the first match but some of his touches were dreadful..
