Brilliant my two favourite teams against eachother! this should be fun! i reckon United will win but it will be a tight match!

Bayern have signed Ivica Olic, Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Mario Gomez & Danijel Pranjić...

Gomez is the only one of any real quality to worry us though, the other three are just solid signings, IMHO.

Shame Ribery won't be playing.

I reckon age is catching up BahamaRed....i expect a new thread as soon as the final whistle ;)

Tymoschtschuk has impressed me very much during Bayern's preseason, seems like an excellent signing.

Olic is not a skillful player and doesn't offer much for the build-up play (this is why Hamburg didn't want to break their internal wage structure for him) but he's a natural goal scorer.

Always seemed similar to Hargreaves to me. Runs around a lot, does a job defensively and is an alright passer but he'll not be of any real threat to us.

I've always thought Olic was a very unnatural goalscorer actually, finishing being one of the worst parts of his game. Just seems like a more mobile Heskey, a big target man and not a good finisher.

Okay, I might have misunderstood you - of course, he's not a goal threat but he is a very decent defensive midfielder who has brought a new quality to Bayern's game because they had lacked someone like him.

He doesn't have a decent technique, but scoring goals is the most important part of his game. To put is this way, Ivica Olic is about goals because apart from that he doesn't offer much.

Since Hargreaves, right? They tried to replace him with completely different players, like Van Bommel, but up until now they've not done that. Or am I just reading it the wrong way.

He does plenty of running, but yeah I've never been that impressed with any part of his game, goalscoring included. I dunno, maybe I've just caught him on a bad day over and over again, but he's never looked like a good finisher to me,

Tymoschuk is a good player, I think. Will be a good signing for Bayern.

Anderson to continue his recent prolific spell by plundering four.

Tymoschuk is the kind of player that can really shut Berbatov out of the game though, I'd call him more than solid.

What kind of team did Bayern put out yesterday? They played (slightly) later than us too, meaning all the less preparation time.

I think that thanks to the size of our squad, we will win this game based on superior fitness.

Let's not all get carried away with the importance and competitiveness of this match. It's a friendly as part of the pre season training programme. There will likely be up to 6 substitutions by each team. If we win or lose is not really of huge importance. Just seeing signs that the team is gelling again and that the new signings and youngsters we are seeing for the first time are looking as though they are fitting in nicely will be enough for me. I'll take some pics tonight and if they're any good will post some tomorrow.

It will certainly be interesting to see who starts tonight, with the injuries we have in defence.

Have to imagine that Brown is out, and the Vidic is unlikely to start, which leaves O'Shea, Cathcart, Rio, Evans, Fabio and Evra. I would imagine Evra and Evans will start. Rio too if Vidic isn't fit to start. O'Shea at RB again, or play Fabio there?

Up front I would guess it will be Owen and Berbatov. Midfield will probably be Fletcher, Giggs, Nani and maybe Tosic.

Should be a good game, a tough one too. Looking forward to it.

It is kinda surprising there is no game at the weekend - could have had a local game against someone like Bury, no real travelling involved and another chance to build some fitness up.

what the hell?? Are you sure the match is today??? We only played yesterday!

Is he that slightly gimpy looking bloke with long blonde hair and a head-band?

I thought he was excellent. Weren't we linked with him at one stage?

That's the one. Looked pretty steady every time i've seen him play for the Ukraine.

I think we were linked at one point in the tabloids, but you could always tell it was BS.

A few English clubs have been linked over the years.

Angry Bayern Munich Coach Louis van Gaal Storms From Press Conference

The Dutch manager wasn't too happy with a reporter's question about Luca Toni...
Bayern Munich head coach Louis van Gaal had every reason to be a happy man on Wednesday evening after his side had thrashed Milan 4-1, however, the Dutch coach still left the press conference in anger.

Van Gaal initially appeared to be quite satisfied, but his mood changed when an Italian reporter asked him why he handed German youngster Thomas Muller a starting berth over prolific striker Luca Toni.

The Bayern coach was astonished by the question and left the table in anger, giving the reporter who asked the question a nasty look in the process.

Van Gaal opted to leave the press conference due to the reporter's lack of knowledge of the situation at Bayern. Toni isn't fully match fit yet and was therefore left out of the starting XI.

The former AZ coach is known for his outbursts against journalists, leaving Barcelona with the famous words, "Friends of the press, congratulations, I'm leaving."
