why the rush to start a new match-day thread, scared of losing?????

Good work Bahama :D Remember when I did this.. caught hell

Takes a little time to prepare an OP. Research, double check, graphics, TV, put it all together. Had it ready from yesterday so why wait. What's ya problem?

Just curious but is it all done by you or is it a matter of who makes the thread first? If its the latter then it would explain why it was up so quickly

He's finished quicker than a nervous virgin, that Bahama Red. This was up as soon as I'd made a cuppa and logged onto the caf! Good man, BR. :D

I'm looking forward to this one, actually. Another good opportunity to play a strong European side (not quite as good as Munich nowadays, but still).

Always hard to predict sides for friendly games, especially ones that aren't directly after another (where you can assume some players are rested), but would be nice to see another start for Valencia, who's looked strong, shown good distribution and held up the ball well when necessary. Oh, and if Brown or Vidic can get over their niggle to get this game in before the competitive season starts, that'd be great. Hopefully we'll look a bit more creative and dominant in this one than today, where we spent too long chasing shadows, and failed to penetrate the defence (yes, I know ;)), despite some good movement at times in Bayern's final third.

What is the deal with the batman symbol on top of their crest??

I'd like us to start the team that Fergie has in mind for the Birmingham game. This is oru last friendly, so our fitness should be pretty high and it's time that we started playing like we're ready. We've had poor starts in the last couple of seasons so a bit of consistency in the Valencia and Chelsea games gives us the best chance.

Origin/meaning:
Valencia and the Balears were conquered by King Jaume I of Catalunya and Aragon during the first half of the 13th century. After the conquest the king gave them the status of independent kingdoms of whom he was also the king (but they were independent of Catalan or Aragonese laws and institutions). The arms of Valencia show those of Jaume I, as Count of Barcelona and king of Aragon.
The unique crowned letters L besides the shield were granted by King Jaume. The reason for the letters was that the city had been loyal twice to the King, hence twice a letter L and a crown for the king.
There are several possible explanations for the bat; one is that bats are simply quite common in the area. The second theory is that on October 9th, 1238, when Jaume I was about to enter the city, re-conquering it from the Moors, one bat landed on the top of his flag, and he interpreted it as a good sign. As he conquered the city, the bat was added to the arms. Another, most likely explanation is that the bat seems to be a modification from the original dragoon on the helmet of Jaume I.
The diamond shape of the shield is typical for the Catalonia and Valencia regions. The arms have not been changed since the first known official description dating from 1377.
Literature : Information provided by the Valencia Tourist Office, info about the bat from Miguel Ángel Pons García

Marching probably doesn't like the reminder, but eh! When I first joined here his username was "Marching on Together" and he never had a nice thing to say about United. Bitter! ;)
