Chelsea vs Manchester United

That's a bit of an overreaction. We were all over them in the first half and much the better team but Fletch can only do so much on his own in midfield. Carrick was mediocre once again - unable to contribute either going forward or in front of defence

We looked good the first half of the Barca match as well.

'Shit' might be a little bit harsh, I take that back...

Unchanged is more like it.

There is something going on with this squad that doesn't have the stamina to finish off a match, don't know what it is, but it remains unaddressed.

Points from the match:

- We played some fantastic football at times.

- We created countless chances.

- The ref was a spastic who should have stopped the match when Evra was floored by Ballack (but he didn't, which Chelsea took the lead from).

- Silly bookings by the ref, namely Berbatov and Evra for feck all.

- Ref didn't stop the match when Nani went down with an injured shoulder, then he stopped the match when Ballack went down, then didn't stop the match when Evra was floored (poor inconsistency by ref).

- Shit penalties by us. Why on earth didn't we have Rooney, Scholes or Owen taking the first pens?

After seeing Giggs/Evra's penalties, it puts into perspective that all the shit Berbatov got for his against Everton was totally unjustified.

Fergie is depending too much on the long-ball finishing. While is it's flashy and spectacular... it will not hold up against the top clubs.

I expect the defending to gel more as the season progresses.

The midfield will likely get an overhaul during the winter break.

Our performance was good, given the notable absentees. The draw over 90 minutes is not a bad result considering the mistakes made, and to lose the Charity shield on penalties is OK. But the positive side is that losing to one of our main title rivals will have a motivating effect and will force us to get off to a flier this season.

We need more going forward from the midfield. Hopefully Ando can be that player.

Just got back. First half was brilliant, decent atmosphere too which suprised me. 2nd half was incredibly dull though apart from Evra's tackle  and of course Rooney's goal. Not sure why Evra was taking a penalty ahead of Rooney/Owen, didnt he miss one in pre-season?

It's like there's no plan B when plan A isn't working. I think we lack a real leader on the pitch who will shake people & give them a kick up the arse if they're not pulling their weight.

True, that and other serious issues need to be sorted before anyone should feel 100% confident. You'd think Rio would have the experience and maturity to fill that role, but I guess he doesn't.

I dunno... here's to hoping things turn around quickly. I don't agree that the second have looked promising - not in the slightest. And if you can't get it together for both halves, then there are going to be serious problems when it counts.

Does not look offside to me.

Ronaldo. Tevez. Gone. You wrong. Me right.

So, how come you're not on a Real site?

I almost forgot! What about O'shea's nutmeg on Ashley Cole  Absolutely brilliant, we need a video of that!

how are you spoons?

feeling less confident for the start of this season than the last?

Not bad, RD. How about yourself?

Can't split ourselves, Chelsea and Liverpool. Still think we should've added at least one more player, mind. And I doubt we'll be anywhere near as strong as last season, yet the other sides haven't exactly improved, if anything they'll probably be weaker as well.

not bad now that I got a better job mate.....

don't loose your hope about adding another player. think Fergie still has one more card up his sleeve...but not the one I want. I really would be chuffed if we got Buffon. that is the position that looks weakest..

think these lot will be the main rivals....think Ancelotti is a pretty good manager :nervous: and won't rattle like the fat waiter.

the scum have lost Alonso..imo though Gerrad is the more gifted player, Alonso was always the more reliable one.....

the waiter lost huge there. So that sort of wipes out our loss of Ronaldo.

the only difference is, we still have Fergie and the waiter needs to eat SAF's leftovers to even begin to be a proper manager ;)

They'll miss Alonso, he used to dictate their play. And what's this about an ace up his sleeve?

Plenty of time, I guess. With Nani out, we'll need a replacement. Not that I actually expected much from Nani, mind you.

is the injury bad? he had a decent enough game...I'm not going crazy yet. Nani has all the skills, but he has never seemed an intelligent a player as Ronaldo...

but Fergie has said, he believes he will make it here....I'll trust the old man...

Nor does he have Ronaldo's strength and power.

Good day, just got home. Shame about the penalties, and the Nani injury, but a good day nonetheless and a pretty good atmosphere actually!. Is anyone else who was sat behind the goal sunburned to an absolute crisp though?

feckin hell the sun was really out. No rest from it. Great atmosphere at our end. Chelsea fans typically only sining when they equalised, took the lead and .. won. Only had the two / three songs them lot.

Fun match / really entertaining. feck the penalties off, knew Giggs and Evra would miss. Didnt realise how bad Giggs was until I saw the replay. Evras just looked like a sad backpass unfortunately. Rooneys finish was class. Foster looked quite dodgy :( Sad thing is, if it was Kuszczak, he would have been so badly slated.

Optimistic for the new season. We dominated Chelsea first half. Second half Chelsea came back in, but needed a cnutish second goal to take the lead. Hate ballack and drogba even more after seeing them play live. Their players / fans celebrated way too much for a shield win.
